I really like the Deng, Watson, Thaddeus Young idea. That would be a rock solid off-season. Clarkson/Watson Bryant/Ellington/Brown Deng/Young/Anderson Randle/Young/Kelly Black/Okafor
He wants more than 12 million, but man I really don't think that's happening. I'm not sure who would pay him that much. Brooklyn says they'll pay to keep him though, so we'll see what happens.
He should feel guilty cashing a check for more than $10m. I think he could be an interesting fit, but for him that's as high as I go.
Me likee, that would be a solid lineup with lots of flexibility. I would love Justin Anderson at 27 based on that workout video and you guys saying he plays good D. Good NBA body already. Is he mocking now to maybe be available to us because of others moving up?

I'm thinking if you decided to add a Deng/Koufos into your starting lineup you addressed your 3 and 5 going into the season. You immediately improve your production at the 3; offensively and defensively. That add value and wins. Koufos adds a big with legit size who has good metrics defensively that I just posted. Your defense improves, Kousfos is much of a offensive threat, but he'll set screens, clean up on the offensive glass, and not be a complete liability.
i was on the koufos train pretty hard until we got the #2. I suppose if you draft Russell, picking up koufos makes a ton of sense, though. I'd be wary of spending heavy on the same spot where you just drafted a potential cornerstone piece.
Yeah, others moving up. I think RHJ is the better defender, but I'll live with Anderson. If we could get Kobe to play 62-65 games efficiently, I think the team can scrape 40-41 wins...
I'd consider the cost. If he's too expensive, I wouldn't do it. Just an option. I'm much more inclined just to start Black at the 5. He's cheaper and guarded there surprisingly well last year. It gives us more flexibility to address other holes, can allow Okafor to develop and step into his role, etc. If we went that route, I'd want a more defensive minded PG. That's why I inserted Chalmers.
Okafor would feast against 2nd stringers initially and Black can also be our guy for the small ball teams as he can get out and run plus still is strong.
I agree. Black did well when he started in place of Dwight Howard last year in Houston. Black sets good screens, he rolls to the hoops, he has good hands, good finishing ability, and a very good vertical. What would help Black is developing a 15-17' foot jump shot. So, on pick in rolls with Kobe, Clarkson, or even Randle, he could pop out or roll to the hoop. Defensively, he challenges everything at the rim, uses his length well, and could move in space. I'd have no problem starting him at the beginning of the season. Then when the times comes, Okafor will take his job and Black could back him up.
I agree with your analysis on Black. He's going to be a huge asset for us next year. However I think Okafor starting for us would be beneficial because in regular season games it's alot more free-flowing in the 1st and 2nd quarters. It helps to get easy baskets early to help build momentum. That's where we really struggled last year... unable to score early and always in a uphill battle. Black would help when the defense needs to tighten things up later in the game. So I think Black may be better ending the game, though both players are awful FT shooters lol
You and I may want Okafor to start, but the FO thinks differently. How do I know? By their history. The last rookie I think that started was Magic. We know how long ago that was...
Yeah but we also haven't had a high draft pick in that same timeframe. None of our picks were NBA ready. Okafor is. You'd have a point if we brought in an experienced vet that played the same position as Okafor, like Boozer and Randle last year. But Black is in his 2nd year so the 'experience' argument is invalid in this case. We have to start the player with the bigger impact.
