I don’t envy GSW. They’re going to come to a point soon where they have to resign Poole and Wiggins (unless they trade him). While having Klay, Green and Curry on the books.

Not to mention everyone else they round their team out with. They’re going to have an absolute mammoth salary bill and the tax from that. We won’t be able to compete with them on a spending level.

On this note, it worries me a bit that since the Buss Fam still owns the majority steak of the franchise, it’s getting harder and harder for them to financially compete with the billionaire owners of the NBA.

do or don't envy? i envy them short-term. they're the spurs of this era, except they have the most free-spending ownership in nba history. there's a lot to like. we've spent two pages arguing whether their 4th best player is an allstar, and everyone can agree he's overpaid at his current salary. our 4th highest paid player is a 21 year old second round draft pick.

that said, i think they fall apart whenever curry does, just like SA did when duncan did.

the lakers still have the brand for now and for the long-term. thanks, lebron.

    Totally agree.

Overspending eventually leads to hubris. I've been a Barcelona fan since a child and they went from being the most valuable (or at least top 3) soccer sporting team in the world, to basically bankrupt and having to force their all time great to leave for free. It's the equivalent of Kobe leaving after his 5th ring for free because we couldn't afford him.

No team can afford $100m tax bills like Golden State for long. It's just not sustainable and eventually they'll fall apart once Curry leaves. They'll blame Curry retiring, but it'll be a mix of that and their financial overspending. That's why I don't have an issue with what the Buss family is doing, we have to compete but we also have to be a legitimate profitable business to survive well into the future to take advantage of our legacy. And I feel like capping our tax bill at $50m is prudent and allows us to be competitive now and in the future. If we pushed things for the now, we'd be bringing future success into the present and would be penny pinching to recoup our losses in future seasons. And I don't think any of us want that - we want sustained excellence.

    I’d rather Cousins than Jordan.

Other than emotional comfort for AD, Cousins offers no value to our team

I agree. And if we are just going to have an unused big man on our bench, I would much rather have it be Jordan because he is just a nicer guy in the locker room.

Let me start by saying this won't happen and I can 100% guarantee that.

I've got the solution for everyone and it's Real GM approved on the 15th...

Lakers trade: Russ, THT, Nunn, picks... all of them.
    Lakers receive: Dame, Covington

    Blazers trade: Dame, CJ, Covington
    Blazers receive: Russ, Ben, Nunn

    76ers trade: Ben
    76ers receive: CJ, THT

Then throw in picks for the next decade. We get Dame and our big wing. 6ers get who they should've been after all along and a young asset in THT. Russ as the #1 scoring option in Portland will accelerate their tanking rebuild. Then get a cost controlled backup PG with Nunn. And they get Ben, they can start figuring out how to build around him and by the time Russ if off the books, maybe they'll figure it out. This also thrusts Anfernee into a much larger role there, which is a good thing.

The other teams say no and hang up instantly, but everyone gets what's best for their team if they can get past the headline of "Russ traded for Dame" or "Simmons traded for not Dame"

If only he was available when we were looking for bigs and didn't have to settle on DJ.

    Oh, wait...:ADeyeshift:

Clearly that PPG will dip, but points from the backup C spot isn't what we needed. Instead serviceability.

Wow both him and McGee plus Ayton. Let’s Jedi mind trick them and go small. “This is not the size you needed” …. look at us changing it up after we won with it.

What a wild time to be a fringe player. Some Laker stuff in here, too, which is bolded...

Realistically, they don't need all these guys. But hey.... shame on us for not realizing what we really needed.

No one on this board was happy with the Jordan signing. It was just terrible and we were proven right early in the preseason.

If we have to face them in the Playoffs, it won’t be pretty, unless AD can go into full Bubble Beast Mode and Russ can get a lobotomy.

Maybe he uses the same guy as Antonio Brown. Hopefully he didn't cough on the mics on his way into protocol.
