There is no way Russell falls past Philly or New York.

Notice I didn't mention explosiveness. :) He did create a lot of space, too, by faking out defenders on the dribble, something I saw Russell do quite often.

Also, I did say his quick release was different from Kobe's. ;)

i'd be 100% fine with them taking russell over okafor. that kid is gonna be a star

but if the cousins trade goes down there's absolutely no way russell will still be available at #6. i'm positive philly takes him at #3 and we end up with mudiay, booker, or WCS at 6

Lol then how can he be like Kobe? Two different types of offensive players. A lot of players use the fake all the time. What differentiates Russell from Kobe is his use of his handles. Kobe never really had or needed top notch handling skills, but was more footwork and strength. D'Angelo is a bit smoother as a player where Kobe was just aggressive outright.

I understand trying to find similarities, but it's not even close.

Now I'm seeing some weird "combined" projected lottery thing from Ford and Stein or whoever flashing by on the ESPN ticker every few minutes and it has Okafor at #1. What is really going on here? I'm just gonna be honest, I am not that high on Towns and his Bynum legs, and if he's there at 2 instead of Okafor I start looking at that Cousins deal a lot harder or even at Russell. I'm locked in on Okafor, right or wrong, he's my choice, I see something special there. I see an already NBA ready body and post game, and potential to be a great rebounder and better defender with coaching and time.

Stein seems like a Noah to me, which is very good.

I agree. If Jah goes first, then suddenly I'm much much much more open to this Cousins trade. I'd rather have Cousins right now than Towns right now.

If Towns goes first though as expected, then I want Okafor. Screw Cousins.

I like that. Basically, our draft pick is between Okafor or Cousins. LOL.

Okafor going #1on ESPN was Jay Bilas (former Dukie) picking whoever he wanted for their mock draft. We're still getting Jah.

I don't care who any of those turds pick. The only fact that means anything to me is Towns only did pre-draft stuff for Minny and no one else.

Jah did pre-draft stuff for Minny, but got multiple looks with us and no one saw him below us.

Towns #1, Jah #2 based on science.

Yeah just watching some Cousins highlights... I think Okafor will be just as good as him offensively. Cousins actually is more of a face-up player than a post player even though he can do both. The edge to Cousins goes obviously because he's already established in the NBA and I think he's a better natural rebounder than Okafor. Cousins is a little better defensively as well, but Okafor will get to Boogie's level eventually.

I'm just not sure it makes sense for us to move #2 for Cousins when Okafor is on the board. If Towns is there instead of Okafor, the conversation starts. I think Towns is a great prospect, but it'll be at least a year or two before he's ready to be THE guy and that's not time I want to wait. If Towns can get you Cousins, then go get Cousins. Just don't give up Randle in the process.

In a weird way I also think Towns is the kind of prospect that COULD get you Cousins if you wanted to go that route. Towns' ceiling is so high, teams would have to fall in love with that ability. I'm not sure what team we'd go through to get Sacramento the players they'd want, but definitely if Okafor goes #1 then I think we should make a big push for Cousins at #2.

I would honestly rather have any of the top 3 picks over Cousins.
I think he is putting up big numbers on a bad team.
    I don't like his attitude.
He might be able to get along with Kobe and Scott but I think that's still a question mark.

I'm also not sure he can handle the spotlight that comes with being a Laker.

I guess I'll just keep repeating myself, I don't think Cousins is the guy who leads us back to prominence. I'm much rather grab the top guy on our board and mold him into the leader we need him to be. I'd take Okafor and Towns over Cousins without even blinking. I would only think about this deal if we were looking at one of the guards and even then I would probably roll the dice with Russell or Mudiay.

    Just not a Cousins fan.

And yeah, this trade talk has immediately turned weeks of joy and positive feelings into worry.
The basketball gods finally throw us a bone and we're going to trade it away for a malcontent. Sigh.

Just pick Okafor Mitch. Or Towns. Either one.

Yeah I prefer Okafor over Cousins, and Cousins over Towns. But I am as biased as they come right about now.

I'd do the trade for 2 in a heartbeat if Towns is who is there, plus we get Sacto's #6. Keep Julius and Jordan & Kobe of course, and let Mitch sort the other souls out.

I know WE may all prefer Okafor, but if Towns is available at 2, I think the front office is elated and runs with it.

He may not be as polished as Okafor at the moment, but he certainly has the tools to be an Anthony Davis type of versatile PF/C. Although I hate repeating it, it's how the league has shifted, and his versatility is perfect for today's game. His ability to get up and down the floor, play defense at a high level, and spread the floor with his jumper is amazing for a player his size. Granted yes, he is a project, but certainly has the tools to be a great big as well.

I won't die inside if we get Towns. He is a better "fit" next to Randle in theory.

Sure, but then you have all the pro Boogie arguments plus #6. I just want Okafor over Cousins. And would serve Towns right for trusting the lying bleeps in MN and not giving the Lakers the time of day. (if they were to do that to him)

The thing for me is that Towns might eventually be Cousins, but Cousins is already there. He can hit a jumper, he can take a guy off the dribble, he's athletic enough inside, he can defend the rim, he's a great rebounder. I don't see Towns being much better than Cousins ever and he may never get there anyway. I'd rather have the entity that makes us more competitive right now. It'll take at least 2 years probably 3 or 4 until Towns is as good as Cousins was last year. I think it takes Okafor half that time. So the question for me is: do we want Towns enough to wait around for him to reach his potential and is Towns enough to off-set Cousins AND a Top 10 pick?
