Ellington’s defense has been much better than I expected.

I think he should start over Bradley, but I do want him to get some reps with the big 3 at the same time before throwing him in that unit.

I was calling him to get more minutes but he was pretty awful tonight. Butter fingers bad rotations missed layups

What a beautiful jump shot he has with great elevation. That court level angle of him hitting from top left of the circle facing the basket was a thing of beauty. Seems to be a dying art. Everyone got lazy and started shooting glorified set shots again. Thanks for nothing whoever brought that retro style back. :speechless:

honestly, it might have been steph curry. coming out of school, his push-style shot concerned me because i wasn't sure he'd be able to stop hard going sideways off the dribble, but since the league decided you can fully jump stop after gathering the ball (which was most definitely a travel when i grew up) guys can get balanced that way and then shoot on the way up instead of using the elevation as the time to orient the body. harden does this, too, obviously, as does luka. there aren't a lot of actual jumpshooters anymore, and the transition happened pretty quickly.

yeah, feel like he might be a bit under-utilized. it's just tough with our glut at sg. you have to play reaves and monk regular minutes, i think. and THT plays some at the 2. and we haven't even had nunn yet (or maybe ever). we built a weird team.

While there's problems we need to address, it's also true that we finally have some shooters. We always coveted good long range shooters, here they are (blue box on the right is their 3-pt %).

The Lakers are converting on 35,9% of their threes which is "in the middle" of the pack.

Amazingly the best shooting teams (Warriors, Nets, Jazz etc.) are all below 38% from 3 on the season.

While we are far from a great shooting team, we are average at shooting the three ball.

    Our problems are rather:

    a) play hard
    b) stay focused
    c) turnovers
    d) offensive rebounding

You could say if you play hard, then offensive rebounding problems disappear and if you play focused, turnover problem disappears...so we have 2 problems. Play hard and stay focused.

No matter what lineup Vogel tries, he never gets consistent effort and focus from the guys. Its different every day and its far beyond not acceptable.

Fine some amount that would get their attention .... for every lazy / dumb not focussed turnover. Frank could do his "all in for the team" magic and get them to agree, right?

I'm surprised he hasn't received his look with the starters yet. Maybe Vogel is waiting for Ariza to get back to roll out his original plan for the starting 5.

Out of all our guards, I feel most confidant with the out of timeout action they draw up for Ellington. I don't think we're running enough plays for him. For a guy who's always moving, we should be hitting him more often than we do. Bron does the best job finding him the ball... no surprise there. Russ has succeeded getting him involved too, but his decisions are more unpredictable to everyone... including Russ.

Yeah there is no overtime without that 3. He let his defender fly by, then calmly buried it.

Also that three from top of the key with the shot clock running down was big too.

Well he bricked/airballs two wide open 3's that would have possibly iced the game so of course he hits the contested one to tie

yeah, he saved himself from being the game's goat, and then reaves saved the big three from sharing the honor.

He's been really good and is really filling niche on this team as an elite shooter.

The fact that he struggled so much but had the mental fortitude to keep shooting is really encouraging.

    Great job, Wayne.

Those two big 3s after struggling tonight and the hustle D... big plays from Wayne.

Also the AR 3 doesn't happen without Ellington on the court and the defensive respect he gets as a shooter that started the play in motion.

Unlike AB or THT, defenses try to run him off the 3 point line because he's feared from deep even if he's missed every 3 up to that point. He gives our big 3 space. Hopefully Vogel finally sees the light with this and comes off the AB hill that I figured he'd die on.
