I know right, all I keep hearing is that it's a wing driven league and we would be going all the way against that one. I don't think it's a smart move to go after LMA - unless Mitch thinks he actually wants to come here, but all of the reports from LMA's camp have been negative about going to the Lakers and really it's not a good fit for him (or even us for that matter). We aren't going to have a lot of time to waste in the FA process. There's no need to go after a long shot like LMA when you desperately need a SF.
I think you guys are thinking the fit is next season only and not in future years. That lineup above is probably the lineup for next season, but who cares if we aren't contending or winning it all? Did we snag one of the best players in FA? If so, that's a win. The following season we will have room for 2 max deals and squad featuring JC/Randle/LMA/Okafor. If you are a big time FA that's way more appealing. Pipe dream, but if Durant comes here we are instantly contenders. And if not we got deep pockets to fill out the roster.
Nah. I picked up on it. I was just thinking about what that team would actually do. I guess I'd still take Aldridge, but we'd have to pray Randle flourishes at sf.
I really don't think he'd be that bad. And if he is, then you start him for 4 minutes and bring in Nick Young asap. Then Randle gets free range of the bench squad and keeps the pressure on other teams there. I'd rather have that problem than the problem of "oh man should we even be giving Robert Sacre minutes right now?"
In my eyes, if Aldridge or Love is willing to come here for the max, you pay them without question. It may create a logjam at PF, but it increases the amount of assets we can use in a potential trade later on, as well as the fact that it provides tangible and ready-made talent for a high-level free agent in the FA Class of 2016 to look at when they're considering the Lakers.
Not worried about Aldridge aging. Players like LMA and the Memphis bigs don't rely on speed or athleticism. They're smart, don't jump, and can shoot. I do have some concerns about fit and lack of a 3&d Sf. But I'd take him over any of the other big named FAs who are hitting the market.
Mo Williams may be unavailable (as I kind of thought). http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2015/06/free_agent_point_guard_mo_will.html
LMA is my top big name FA. I think we have almost no shot at him though. Harris is good, and he'd be a nice fit for us. Those fearing he might be overhyped aren't really familiar with him. He's massively underrated.
Oh geez he wants to go back to Cleveland. Sigh. How many guys can they add though? They're going to re-sign everyone, sign Wade, and sign Williams too. This crap happens every year with dumb LeBron teams. I hate it.
I'm not sure that Randle would be our starting SF on this team.. Not really sure who would be TBO.. Not really speculating on who else would be on the team.. Maybe a SF like Carroll or Harris..??? All I'm saying is, give me those 5 players to build from any day.. & GS runs everyone out of the building, but I'd like to see them try to stop that team in the post..
^^^. For sure. That's only 5 players though.. Fill in the rest with perimeter guys & shooters.. All I'm saying is you absolutely take LMA if he's available & not worry about the log jam at the PF/C position..
Davis declined to outline the terms of his preferred contract in length and dollar amount. But a league source familiar with his thinking said he will seek a two or three-year deal worth $7-8 million a year, or a one-year deal worth $9-10 million. Davis expressed preference for joining a playoff team, which he believes the Lakers will become next season. And Davis sounded eager to make up for lost earnings after experiencing a five-year career that he called “up and down” that he chalked to “bad luck.” http://www.dailynews.com/sports/201...-affection-for-lakers-hope-for-lucrative-deal
Hm... 7-8 is a little steep and I'm not 100% there's a playoff team out there that's offering him that amount. I think the Lakers let him go if he plays hardball on that number. All in all if he wants to stick around, I'd offer him an extra year at around 5-6 million tops. 3/15-18 4/22-24 That's the best I'm doing for him.
