i semi-commented a page back, but i find it interesting that reaves is playing 16 minutes in these games. i think they've seen what they needed to see. i'm not saying he'll be a caruso-level gem (those are rare), but to my eye, he can do an awful lot out there. hard to believe that half the first round were wing players folks evaluated as better than him.
I don't think neither will make the team. They are shooting poorly and we have a deep roster. Bring Dudz back!
where are you getting the stats? feel like reaves has been hitting from deep in limited attempts. anyway, no, he won't sniff a minute this year, nor will any SL guys, save maybe cacock (who could be 3rd string center again, tbh). i'm just saying that to my eye, reaves has looked a head above the competition.
Yeah he hasn’t torn it up shooting but gets open for looks and has hit some, is 6’5” like AC, definitely has a lot of AC’s dog and effectiveness on D, and is a true PG with better handles coming out, I think(?). Very possibly can have an improvement curve similar to the Eagle IF he’s as hard a worker and wants it as much and keeps improving and building on the skills he has now both sides of the ball. More importantly if someone in the organization can turn him on to AC’s guy with the “juice” and muscle up about 10 lbs by next year.
I've been following throught the NBA Boxscore and him and mainly McClung have not been shooting well. Ayayi is barely inexistent in the scoreboard too
He definitely crushes the eye test. I've watched most of two of the games and he moves and looks like a NBA'er out there. Whether that translates to the first guard off the bench (like AC) or the last guard off the bench, it's too soon to tell. That will be determined in the gym, on the practice court, and in the D-League. Agreed that it won't be this year (unless Handy turns water into wine and he gets ahold of serious steroids as well), but I'm looking forward to seeing where he is a year from now.
very different player than AC, imo. first, caruso is athletic. i know the accountant jokes abound, but he's athletic by nba standards. reaves isn't. but reaves is more polished in every way compared to AC when he came out, imo. he's a little bigger/longer, more of a true sg size (though it's pretty close between the two). so reaves is more skilled, better as a creator off the dribble, and a better shooter. he's a good team defender from what i've seen, but will never be as good on the ball as AC is. nor will he be able to finish like AC--though he has a knack for off-ball cuts just like AC. mcclung's not a shooter. he's just not an nba player, imo. fun athlete, though! ayayi's game is going to look bad in summer league, imo. will have to see how he fits in with better players in the g-league, as he's purely complementary. he may not make it. think i saw he was at 11% body fat, so there's room for work there. and i think it's an issue. he seems like a smaller joe ingles to me. does the nba have a place for that? maybe. but we have 4 sgs ahead of him this year, so we definitely won't see it for now.
It's the only title they're good enough to compete for every year. They should hoist up some banners. I'm fine being a s***ty summer league team because it typically means your NBA team is succeeding. In other news... Since he's threadless, I'll drop it in here:
box scores mean nothing, all the 2nd yr guys dropping 30/gm doesnt mean they gona be stars in the regular seasons....better to watch these guys then to judge summer league raw stats. Reeves has alot of tangibles and honestly much more advance offense then even this past season Caruso....imo if he shows out in the gleague i see his 2 way converting. Also see some usefulness out of Brown, solid rebounding guard with nba rdy physique if his role on this team is to catch n shoot n D up, he can do that relatively well. All these old vets we have are 1 yr guys (except maybe Bazemore), so Reeves n Brown has decent chance to make team next yr. Mclung and Ayayai probably get stuck in gleague and or go over seas for a while
IMO Trudell gives great interviews. Period. I know some here don’t seem to be fans. Really does his homework to know the backgrounds of his subjects because he asks pertinent, interesting questions and follows up on them to make sure his subject gets the chance to expand on the interesting details of each if important in understanding who they are. This kid is a great story and hope he has the Kobe in him and more recently the Eagle in him to eventually crack the Lakers roster. Just needs to find out where AC was getting his juice ….
I never knew anyone didn’t like Trudeau (edit: Trudell—damn autocorrect). I like his stuff, and yes, love his preparation. Great interview. Sounds like a good kid. And as a bonus, imagine getting basketball props from Bron. What a mind-blower for these young kids.
that box out is the kind of stuff i was talking about when i said he passed my eye test in summer league. he just knows how to play. he's got to up the physicality a bit and become an automatic shooter, but if those things happen, he could have a long career.
Chad Ford, yep... that one, offers up grades for our two summer leaguers On this vet heavy team with championship or bust goals, I agree they won't see the court. We don't have the time to coach up these guys on the big league roster. Better for them to get the reps in the d-league and for Reaves to live in the weight room. We'll be doing good to coach up any mistakes made by THT and that's all the rope we have to offer the less inexperienced going into this season.
I’m curious, were there any standout undrafted rookies in SL this year? Ford gives Reaves a C-, but that grade is only relevant if there are several undrafted guys that outperformed him.
yeah, ford's really not a basketball genius. again, the lakers didn't really try to feature reaves and ayayi. feel like reaves played very few minutes in general. anyway, i'm not going to read too much into summer league stats. reaves looks like he might be an nba player, and the fact that he won't be for our team this year is not the disappointment ford paints it to be. good teams aren't counting on their summer leaguers.
