Got some insight on what's been happening RE: Caruso.

Lakers FO asked Caruso to wait for a little bit, because they wanted to see if Schroder would be willing to reconsider coming on as a backup PG to Westbrook. Their idea was that Schroder could take a 1 year deal for less money to try to "prove" himself for a bigger deal down the line, since nobody was going to offer him the 100M+ he wanted. The Lakers were also simultaneously exploring some S&T opportunities for him. Plan B was to resign Caruso for a deal similar to what he got from Chicago.

In the mean time, Caruso saw the reports from Shelburne about how the Lakers and him were going to part ways, and I believe he got worried that he was going to miss out on a good deal. This leak did not come from the Lakers, obviously. The Bulls meanwhile were recruiting him pretty hard, and he took that offer. He would have rather stayed in LA, but the timing threw him off.

In the mean time, Schroder was obviously not interested in staying on as a reserve, so LA quickly pivoted to plan C: Nunn.

Hope this helps! The Lakers roster looks nearly complete and poised to get #18!!!

Many thanks for the info. Do you have any idea of what the plan is right now with Schroder, if there is any, since it looks like only 2-3 teams have cap to sign him without a S&T?

If I’m wrong OK no big deal I’ll admit it. But swear to G I just read it somewhere linked here in a thread with a grid and everyone’s names. And it’s not the first time I’ve seen it. When it was explained that Caruso was going to somehow trigger 35M in expected tax or the two of him and THT at the approx same salary 70M between them (I can’t be the only person who read that breakdown as there were comments on it) …. there was another grid or detailed accounting of over 200M. I’ll go hunt for the one right here when I have time if necessary and to see where the disconnect is.

Wait a minute, the same guy who turned down 21 million per a few months ago, all of a sudden, may then after one day of free agency, decide to stay for 1 year? That makes zero sense.

And what does Schroder have to do with AC? Sign AC and focus on Schroder. Schroder deal has no barring on AC whether he stays or goes.

Lastly, momo scared Alex Caurso into a panic? Really? Come on, give me a break.

that particular narrative has me dubious as well.

if these guys are that easily manipulated by the press, i'm not sure what to say.

Didn’t Dwight leave last year because he hadn’t heard back from Rob? Even though Rob had been in touch with him all along they way and told him we were going to sign him but had a few things to work out. So be patient.

Edit: of course we are talking about Dwight, not Eagle.

Lakers let him go. There is no cloak and dagger. AC was great but the reality is he was already getting limited playing time before Westbrook came, when was he going to play with THT progressing on top of that?

AC is a SG. And that's it. He isn't a PG. So, maneuvering him in between was not gonna happen. THT can, and that's who they picked.

So we either didn't manage the timing or low-balled him? OK.

Shelburne also adds that the Minnesota Timberwolves offered to acquire Caruso on a sign-and-trade in which they would have also taken on Marc Gasol from the Lakers.

    Interesting.
