I think I was too quick to dismiss this; so, giving up Clarkson; our core would be Butler/Randle/Okafor. I'd have to give this more thought, but it is intriguing to say the least.
They could get a far better return. But if Jimmy is clear he wants to be here and doesn't want to be there, that'd go a long way. For a team that struggles do mightily to score at times, Swaggy would come in handy. Since I think Brooks takes the money and runs, Lin wouldn't be a bad backup for Rose (who's always at risk to miss games). They don't have a lot of options to add depth to their roster. Two cost controlled rookies could be appealing for those reasons. Hell, give them Sacre too as a 3rd stringer. 5 for 1 isn't a bad haul if they know how to draft.
clarkson, kobe, butler, randle and okafor? from doormats to that scary lower seed noone wants to face in the 1st round
I'd be tempted, but ultimately I would wait for him to come here as a UFA. Randle, Jah, and Butler is a nice core But not nearly as nice as Randle, Jah, Butler, and JC in two years when our young guys have come into their own and are among the best at their positions. Throw Butler (+whatever we add this summer and next) into the mix on that team and you're ready for a championship run.
Keep in mind, that if we traded for Butler, we still have some FA money to spend on a PG to replace JC. I don't want to trade Clarkson, but if he gets me Butler I do it without flinching.
I get it. That's the thing with our young players, Time; it's hard not to get too attached. Although, historically, I'm sure you know what we've done to get back on top have included trades, free agency, and the draft. With trades, there may be teams asking for Clarkson and Randle in potential future scenarios for star players and they potentially might involve them being moved to get us closer and put us into a position for championship contention. I think Butler will sign a 3 year deal, though. If he's not happy in Chicago, they'll probably entertain a trade during that span, and possibly by that time we could low ball them for a disgruntled Jimmy...
who knows what the Bulls might do...they just fired their coach and according to this article, might have Gibson and Noah on the block http://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/joakim_noah_and_taj_gibson_on_the_trade_block/18936886 they might not even match if we offered Butler max...they might be cleaning house
I don't think you trade clarkson... at all. That's been our mistake, getting rid of young players. He's proven he's a legit player in this league. I want to see what a young core trio can do here. Butler can kick rocks if he signs with Chicago...
Well, he doesn't really have a choice. He's restricted and Chicago is the team with the most advantageous position financially for Butler to sign with; it's not his fault. That's the way the CBA goes...
OK, guys. This is not a tough one. I trade Clarkson, the 27th and the 34th in a heartbeat if it nails down Jimmy Butler. I mean, seriously? There are people considering this? Butler is 24 and arguably a top 20 player in the league.
yeah, done deal. Chicago wouldn't do it, though. I like Clarkson a lot, but we laker fans overrate him because he was an oasis in a desert of young talent. some teams have three or four young players that they think are on par or better than Clarkson (e.g., Orlando).
I think he'll get something less than the max unless he continues to develop as a shooter. He's incredibly talented, but he's also not developed at the rate people thought he would which gives him a perceived lower value than he really deserves. His max under the next CBA would start around 26-27 million. I think he gets more like 20-23 million or so especially if it's to a place he wants to be *cough*back near his college town*cough*
As much as I love Clarkson, I do this trade too. Then try to pick up Rondo (gulp) on the cheap, and pray he gets his act together. Rondo Kobe Butler Randle Okafor Great blend of battle tested vets and young talent.
Randle+Clarkson+27 for Taj+Butler? Pick up Mo Will with the remaining if possible. Mo Williams Kobe Butler Taj Okafor That is a quality starting lineup right there. Taj can cover the help side of Jah.
No good lawd no. We've got a chance to just go get Butler when he comes to UFA. Give up half our young core for him now? No thank you.
randle's off limits to me unless I'm getting a young allstar back. and no one would offer that given his injury, so I'd be keeping him.
