Question… if DeRozan is willing to come for the MLE, do we say three point shooting be damned, let’s go for it?

I kinda think you have to. Just can’t pass on that talent at that value even if it’s not a perfect fit. And in some twisted way, I think it could actually work out with some creative rotations (and assuming the rest of the roster acquisitions can hit the 3).

I just can’t see DD coming for cheap.

Yeah, I originally thought even the full MLE (the one that would hard cap us) was pipe. But I feel the Westbrook acquisition might ramp up the pressure. Obviously I'm being a homer and I don't have millions of dollars on the line, but man that storyline of joining Westbrook in a homecoming to secure us another championship sounds like it would be tough to pass up.

And I guess I also bring this up, because now this is the only scenario I think it makes sense to get DeRozan. The $5.9M MLE. Even if SA was willing to do a S&T with Schroder, NOW the fact that we'd be hard capped and potentially lose out on THT and/or Caruso, that gamble is much more difficult given the lack of fit.

DD can't shoot (and doesn't look to shoot!) and I don't think he can play well under the bright lights of the Lakers franchise. He can come for a minimum to win a ring and play for his hometown team or go somewhere else. Not a fan.

He hit 40% of his 3s during his 2 year tenure with the Blazers. He would be a perfect pickup. He can play PF and we might even get away with playing small ball C on defense. All he has to do is catch and raise up since we have Westbrook and Lebron to drive.

Hope the Lakers can give 1 year contracts to dudes who are looking to redeem their careers in the NBA. This is the perfect spot to do it

Some names available in the FA pool who can be had for the minimum to fill out the bench depth

    Quinn Cook
    Tyson Chandler
    Allen Crabbe
Terrance Ferguson (he played next to Russ in OKC and had some pretty good games)
    Kyle Korver
    Andre Roberson (experience with Russ)
    Iman Shumpert
    Evan Turner
Glenn Robinson III (might have to spend a little more)
    Courtney Lee
    Damian Jones (remember him??)

This dude sees himself as a 3 and D player like Jae Crowder and PJ Tucker. Very interesting.

    Yep. Working overtime.

Even if one of these guys stick, it's a win.

I like this Russ trade far better than the Hield one. Gonna be interesting to see how Rob completes this roster.

After the Westbrook trade, does this mean the Lakers have the full MLE or taxpayers MLE to use?

Weirdly enough I think if we can somehow convince a bunch of the free agents that were on the 2019/20 NBA bubble Laker squad to come back for vet minimums, we would be in good shape lol.

I’m talking about Danny Green, Avery Bradley, McGee, and Dwight. I would also target Patty Mills and Carmelo for the minimum.

    Westbrook/Caruso/Patty Mills
    Green/Bradley/THT
    Lebron/Carmelo
    AD/Markieff
    McGee/Gasol/Howard
