stuff better happen quick. if beal doesn't move, does washington move westbrook? if dame and beal stay put, i feel like we might be making the pick. we have to keep the rest of the powder dry if we're taking home run swings.

i have questions about the methods here, even if i agree qualitatively that the lakers are really good in the draft. the distribution of teams makes me think that the real issue is how often you're drafting high and what happens there. all of our high picks have been good (none great), and our low picks have also been good. but the more shots you get in the lotto, the more likely you are to get an underperforming player with the index suggested here. this is because the base rate for success at any level in the draft is low (contrary to fan/media perception). his relative scoring method creates exacerbates the problem, imo: our worst pick by far according to this metric was lonzo ball. not because he's terrible, but because jayson tatum is way better. siakam and jokic (late picks who have been great) almost completely carry toronto and denver's high team ratings in this scheme.

as a result of base rates and the scoring system itself, bad teams are going to rank poorly here, disproportionately. then the author reverses the causal relation, imo.

drafting badly doesn't make you bad. being bad puts you in position to draft poorly as defined by this metric.

data can be dangerous in the wrong hands. sorry, i teach about this kind of stuff for a living.

Definitely should move this pick but it kinda also depends on what happens in free agency for us....

I've pretty much accepted the fact that we are moving this pick.

Moving the pick would be very foolish. This is a can't miss draft. Even at 22 we get a good player. Do not trade the pick in panic.

i'm not as bullish as you are, but there are definitely several likely useful nba players projected to be available at 22, and our scouting has been very good.

alas, yes, it appears this way.

I'm ok with moving the pick if the reports of a trade and "tons of vets" are lined up to sign for Vet Min are true. But, I would hope we are buying a 2nd round pick if we move the 1st.

Why, if there are allegedly some available in the 30s? Does buying them count against the cap, the buying price itself? Guessing yeah.

Both THT and Clarkson were the 46th pick. Pretty sure abeer is just having a little fun with that specific pick.

buying price doesnt effect salary cap but there is a cap amt you can spend every off season and I believe this capped amt also includes $ you can send in trades to offset out going player salary

yeah, it's somewhere between 5 and 6 million now, i think. if trez is going to opt in and his team wants him, we may not have to include cash, so buying a pick may be something we can do.
