still can't find official documentation of that anywhere (and can think of many historic trades in which this happened), but if so, then the only path to westbrook is kuz/kcp/opted-in trez.

Well, we will see what happens. Lakers and Kings have supposedly been in communication about Hield.

and we'd have to move two rotation players (each who may be more valuable than him on their own, tbh). that lotto pick better be coming back.

I am a bit more optimistic but I kind of think you are more on track than some others in this regard. I am in the camp that if nothing else comes along, this is not the worst fallback position but it is far from my hopes for this team.

some one brought up similar idea on realgm and I asked if it was legal and answer is still NOT legal and as you said when was last time you saw a SnT deal involving more than 1 player coming or going from team that has to SnT. Dlo for KD was last one I recalled and GSW had to move Iggy in seperate deal in order to be under threshold to do the dlo/kd, if SnT allowed combining player, youd think the nets wouldve wanted Iggy and the GSW 1st they gave up to dump him to Mem?

I wish I remember where, but one of the Capologists out there recently said that you can combine S&T players going out. For instance we could package both Schroder and Trez in one transaction. I'm not sure they can be combined with players already under contract though.

Dang, this Cap stuff is hard to keep track of! (Rob probably)

i just can't find the guidance other than: a smart guy on the internet said. i'm not saying i know; i'm saying i'm having trouble finding concrete verbiage on it in either direction.

i'm certain rob has no idea and is scrambling to determine what this "larry bird exception" thing is. i mean, larry bird retired years ago!

that's the cba verbiage. can't find anything about combining or not combining anywhere in this section or the trade section in general.

edit: but you always hear about guys not being combined in a trade during certain periods, etc., so it can't just be nowhere!

Maybe there is a certain player they like in that range, or maybe a team that they are in trade discussions with would prefer a lottery pick instead of Kuzma and #22.

interesting (unlikely) that we or the wizards would be transparent enough to know who the other team wants and be actively in a horse race to get a late lotto pick for said prize.

RE combining players in a sign and trade:

Cap expert Eric Pincus was on the most recent Locked on Lakers episode and around the 32min mark he's talking about trade packages for Westbrook. "You have KCP, Kuzma, Trez... if you do Dennis in a sign and trade, that changes those three pieces."

No doubt most of this people flinging things to see what sticks. But it does feel like a lot of teams are legit trying to pull off deals. Guess we will know for sure soon enough.

yeah, i still think it's possible. i don't know that it is. i think it just never happens because contract negotiations with the S&T piece are bound by the rest of the deal and by whether the player and other team want to participate in all aspects. it's a tough thing to pull off, assuming it is legal.

of course, pincus then mentions THT, which is even tougher (again, assuming it's legal) because his previous salary was so low. the league put in the BYC stuff to try and stop things like us signing caruso to a max deal for one year to make salaries match for a trade, and they did a pretty good job of that. but i think they stopped short of just outlawing combining s&t with existing contracts.

spurs guy clearly just forgot stuff after leaving The Program. i mean, why else would he be employed by such a d****** franchise? why would he leave rc buford (who has translated the cba to mandarin in under 3 hours whilst deadlifting a hippopotamus)?

I have no clue what we are going to do. This is still exciting because my gut tells me that we're going for a home run of some sort. I say that because Rob has made it a point, to say on several occasions, that Jeannie has empowered him to spend whatever is necessary. So if it's pretty much clear to me that receiving a player through sign and trade triggers a 140 million dollar hard cap. That's where we were this season, that isn't " spending whatever is necessary ". This means that we are looking to trade for someone already under contract, even if they have a high salary, and resign Tucker and Caruso. That's my take on it, I have no idea WHO that player is, but I most definitely wouldn't be shocked if they were big time, of course big time players equal big time contracts.

this westbrook rumor scares me, I dont think Russ triple double means squat when it comes to playoff and winning, time and time again we've seen teams can goat Westbrook into being a "shooter" and considering our woeful 3pt shooting over the years, this has a higher chance of failing than succeeding
