It's a good plan but that combination of players won't total all our cap space. We can do better even if we overpay for a scrubby guy.
I don't know. If you want to see something eery, look at the nba draft net profiles for Yi and Porzingis. Athleticism equal. Nba comparison Pau. Total score 94 vs 95.
Not bad. My one change would be to see if we can get KJ McDaniels as opposed to Gee. Wouldn't be that much more and he's could be a long time keeper.
There's no sense in saving cap space, the cap is increasing by 1/3 + Kobe is expiring. We're going to have a ridiculous amount of cap space next summer regardless. I don't think it's possible to whiff on that many tiers of FA's to where Dunleavy/Gee/Watson/Dalembert/keeping Hill makes sense. I think worst case if we miss out on all of the big names, we still go after some young defensive studs that we're both fans of in Biyombo & McDaniels, that's basically like adding 2 extra 1st rounders. It would make sense to go all out with a youth movement at that point, so I'd use the remaining space to take on a bad contract or 2 packaged with a player that just got taken in the 1st round & look at dumping Young for the best young players we could get & replacing him with a cheaper Dunleavy for leadership. Sign a guy like Brooks at PG in a mentor role also (although it seems like Nash will provide that). I'd give Sacre & Kelly away for free if we can't get a 2nd rounder or future 2nd rounder for them. I'm sure we could find a contender that wants a cheap 3rd string C or PF. We'd be better off giving their minutes to younger players that could still become something. 1 interesting team to keep an eye on that could give us a very good pick to take on salary is Miami. Overshadowed by all of the Wade drama is the fact that they're desperately hoping Deng doesn't opt in to his 10M player option, & I think he will since his value is nowhere near that. They're already rumored to be interested in trading the #10. Upgrading from Deng to Young for half the price + dumping McRoberts and/or Anderson might be appealing enough for them to deal. Stanley Johnson should be available in that range & hopefully that's who we'd get. So our no big names all youth offseason looks like: #2. Okafor #10. S. Johnson #27. Delon Wright #34. Upshaw Sign: Bismack Biyombo K.J. McDaniels Mike Dunleavy Brooks Take on: Deng McRoberts Clarkson/Wright/Brooks Kobe/McDaniels Deng/Johnson/Dunleavy Randle/Black/McRoberts Okafor/Biyombo/Upshaw That's an insane amount of potential. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 3 or 4 of those young guys become starters 1 day.
I'd welcome McBob back behind Randle and Boom Boom. Unless he has dropped off due to injury or something. He was better than how Potato Head utilized him with his random seat of the pants, shifting rotations. Unless he never got any better and in fact has regressed. Though Kelly may still improve if Byron doesn't break him again 1st day of practice. We do need some stretch capability.
like lakersn4's plan, but I don't see the lakers bringing in four rookies in addition to Clarkson and randle. I'm also not sure riles wants to move the 10 just to shed salary. especially if Stanley Johnson's sitting there.
I agree. It's one thing to dump the 27th to get rid of a contract (i.e. Lin), but a top 10 pick in a draft that had potential 10 year starters in that range? Riles will hold on to that pick unless there is an offer of a veteran that can possibly vault Wade, Dragic and Bosh into a 2-3 year contention window. Nick Young isn't that veteran.
harris is dangerous, as he's the classic tweener. this usually means you're a bench player. how much do you want to spend on sixth man type? I'm sure Orlando has a sensible number below the max that they want to hit. I'd prefer the lakers look for a guy with a clear position, even if he's less talented. and I hope that position is sf. this becomes a longer shot every day, but I'd still give gs a call and tell them i'll eat lee's deal if they give me barnes. would actually be a great situation for the lakers, with lee being a nice stopgap guy at pf (like boozer last year) and barnes being a likely long term answer at sf.
Yeah I'd rather have a 3 that can also play the 2, that's where we need the most help. Beggars can't be choosers though.
After his showing so well in the Finals, I doubt they dump Lee now. They can probably get a decent return at this point. If he hadn't played at all in the Finals, it might be a more realistic option. It'd be a great move for them though if they could pull it off. Trade maybe Black/Kelly/#27 for Lee/Barnes. Black and Kelly are good young fits for that franchise and they get two draft picks to boot. I'm sure they could get better offers, but that's as far as I'd go. Re: Harris. I'm kind of with you, but I wouldn't mind him. I think if you poison pill him like Parsons he's yours. Orlando won't match any offer on him. They've got enough nice young players they don't need him anymore. They've got Oladipo, Payton, Vucevic and Gordon, and now another Top 5 pick coming in. That's already a starting lineup. I think they'll let him walk if someone ponies up enough dough. I still say go for Danny Green or DeMarre Carroll and I think Mitch will think along those lines too. He already hinted that we'd be going after a couple of veterans in FA. Harris is a young guy with room to grow which is great, but we've got plenty of those already.
I agree that the Lee/Barnes thing is kind of pipe. I mean, Barnes is showing why he was drafted where he was, and he is a big part of what they do in Golden State as it pertains to their rotations and versatility. The Splash Bros, Green and Barnes are their core. They'll eat Lee's last year without question if the price get rid of him was to jettison Barnes. As for Harris, I'm not sure I view him as a tweener. He's definitely more of a sf. But with him and Randle as your forwards, that actually gives you some options on offense and a nice bit of versatility. They could switch on defense and on offense. Add a player like McDaniels and hopefully draft Anderson. Now you have quite the versatile team that's built a bit like GS. One big post player with Okafor (Bogut) with a couple forwards that can switch a bit like Barnes and Green.
Tobias Harris... Age Did you know that Tobias Harris is younger than Jimmy Butler? Younger than Khris Middleton? Harris is 22. He'll turn 23 next month. Body of Work He's a consistent 46-47% FG shooter, a 79% FT shooter, and he has added a three-point shot to his repertoire since joining the league. He averaged 17 points last season, 6.3 boards, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and half a block. Check this article from basketball breakdown: http://bballbreakdown.com/2015/02/11/the-future-is-bright-for-tobias-harris/ =A look at what Harris does, relative to names you hear tossed around a lot. Growth In four seasons he has increased his scoring efficiency, assist rate, ast/to ratio, and his steals and blocks have stayed the same. He can play the 3 (posted a 16.0 PER vs. 15.9 counterpart PER) or the 4 (posted a 19.1 PER vs. 14.4 counterpart). Center of Attention He commands double teams on Orlando. Now from BB Analytics: http://www.basketballanalyticsbook.com/2015/05/06/the-nbas-most-underrated-player/ =Good breakdown of Harris's skills on a terrible offensive team with awful spacing. He is called the most underrated player in the NBA. And there's an argument. One more stat Players with a 15/5 season, under age 23, with 45% FGs and 35% threes. Here's the list, since 1980: Cliff Robinson, Chuck Person, C. Webb, Joe Smith, Shareef, Dirk, T-Mack, Rashard Lewis, LBJ, Dwight, Deng, Gay, Durant, Beasley, Love, Harris, and Kanter. My Thoughts Harris is not a sixth man. He's a borderline star already. I'd be thrilled if the Lakers picked him up. A max contract without S&T would have him with LA from age 23 to 26.
I really dig the idea of him and Randle as our forward tandem. Size and athleticism at both spots. Honestly, it's a semi-realistic offseason that would have us draft Okafor, Anderson and Upshaw. Then sign Harris, McDaniels, Dalembert and CJ Watson. Lots of young talented depth with some veteran leadership.
I'm for Harris, I just wonder about his fit. He's a 17 ppg guy on a bad team. Does he get maxed out and come here expecting to be our star? How does he mesh with Randle and Clarkson and Okafor? Do we have enough ball movement with that team? I'm completely willing to find out because a team that young and together that long with the work ethic that our young guys have... that's a team worth looking into. My questions are: 1. Is he a two way player? I'm honestly not sure I haven't seen enough of him. 2. Can he create for others as well as himself? Golden State is proving again (for whatever reason it needs to be proven all the time now) that ball movement trumps all. Clarkson is a PG who likes the ball in his hands. Randle showed some tendencies when on the floor to get tunnel vision in isolation situations. Okafor doesn't make much sense if we're not feeding him a healthy amount. Kobe is still on the team. Where does that leave Harris? He took 14 shots per game last year. Can he score 15 points instead of 17, but do it more efficiently within a team concept? Again if we sign him, I'll be ecstatic. I was iffy on him earlier in the off-season, but after looking into him and with great work like trodgers', it's clear he's a good find. I just think a signing like that doesn't get us closer to the playoffs NEXT year which means I'm not sure if Mitch is on board with it.
