    Play in - just cost the NBA a super star for the playoffs. The best player in the league over the last month is now out. Stupid. GS earned the 8th seed. The whole concept is to give a Cinderella a chance to beat a better team.

    Utah will sweep Memphis and win every game by 15 or more. Congrats Silver.

    i'm not as impressed with morant as most. even watching last night, i was like--this guy gets caught in the air WAAYYYY too much. it's like his whole plan is to just get in the paint and jump and then....something good hopefully occurs! and sometimes it does! his array of shots around there is pretty amazing, tbh. i just wouldn't want to depend on that. he needs to become a bigger threat as a shooter from deep off screens. and maybe he will. but right now, steph curry is 10X scarier.

    more importantly, the league instituted to the play-in to make things more exciting, and it delivered them a mem/utah series and left a league mvp candidate in a big market on the sideline. fail.

    btw, the refs intentionally missing that leg kick on poole was shameful (and i didn't hear what in the actual hell mem's coach was doing not challenging it) and exactly the kind of thing i expected going into this game. because of the above.

    The league also instituted the play-in as a way to limit tanking, but the hardcore tanking isn't being done at the 9 and 10 seeds. Especially with the 9 seed which is often in striking distance of the 8th seed. The big tankers are 10 games off the pace of the 10th seed most of the time. Not to mention, if I was at 11 at the midway point of the season and I had a choice of tanking or trying to make my way into the play-in where I will get to face the #1 seed, I'd still tank. Getting swept in the first round or maybe winning one game as the 10th best team in the conference (if you make it through the play-in) isn't nearly as valuable as securing a top 5 pick.
