the only ones available are generally huge minuses on offense (e.g., rhj, mkg, etc.). but most are already signed (e.g., harkless, dorian finney smith, etc.).

unless you were being a smartass?

I dont know their cap situation but probably they're in the same boat as us with Dennis.

as in: traded for him, and can't afford to let him go bcs if they do, they won't have the cap space to sign a similar quality replacement.

I feel this is exactly what's going to happen with us and Dennis in the summer, except he wont get a max but probably 25M+

repeat with little contribution from ds n we won't be forced to pay him, there will be a decent amt of pg we could chase for mle, maybe Bron can recruit lowry for mle (i know he wants 25m but don't see that happening)

i don't think we're forced to pay schroder, tbh. if he walks, we lost danny green and a late first, and we just give THT his role and minutes and hope for the best (probably sign an inexpensive vet pg as insurance).

    we can also s&t schroder.

milwaukee had to sign holiday because he's really important to their ability to compete. i don't think schroder matters as much to us. losing him would hurt, but keeping him at 25 per may actually hurt more. same isn't true in mil, i don't think. can't come close to replacing holiday for what they have to offer.

Another decent player available. He reminds me a lot of Matt Barnes. Not the best 3 point shooter but energy guy

4 days left for buyout players to be signed and be eligible for playoffs

The Lakers let Randle go for nothing when they found out they were getting Lebron and invested heavily into Kuzma. Schroder can walk for nothing and it is ok if the team finds a great replacement and fully invests into 20 year old THT

We don't need Schroder as much as Schroder thinks we do. Plenty of decent players next year to fill up some roster spots. I was under the impression we were getting a Schroder who could shoot the ball. When he doesn't do that, it changes the entire equation.

I know he doesn’t put up amazing stats, but I’ve loved his game since college, I wouldn’t be opposed to signing him cheap.

i feel like he's had a lot of chances, though. his big downfall to me (aside from never becoming a consistent shooter) is that he's not strong enough to defend big wings. if we can't find a big physical wing defender on the buyout market, maybe we're better off just not signing anyone.

I’ve been pretty disappointed with Schroder this year after wanting him for many years before. If he’d played the way I thought he could, maybe I’d be worried, but I don’t think I’ll miss the little he’s given us this season if he leaves. More time for THT if he leaves as abeer said.

schroder is who he is, but he hasn't picked up on it yet. i'd still make that trade 10 times out of 10; it just doesn't seem to have worked out.

so hard to judge everything, though, with AD out for most of the year and lebron out for a good chunk.

Good financial breakdown by Pincus of our options with our own players, especially Dre, this off season.

Scenario 3 is what I'm hoping for. Drumm at $9.5m, Trezz at $11m. Dennis and KCP gone. AC and THT at $15m combined. 6 minimum deals.

i like #3 better if 21' pick is retained and or KCP/21' pick for an upgrade at the wing spot, more consistency or tougher defender would be my preference, KCP minus his 40% 3pt shooting, has been very disappointing, just way to inconsistent and way to long stretches of poor play

Problem with keeping the pick or getting something back on a KCP deal is the goal would be to dump the salaries. Even if we kept the pick, I'd rather flip it for an early 2nd so the money isn't guaranteed. And getting a specialist in return on a deal who's making $3m-ish just seems very unlikely.

i dont think we can move KCP w/o incentives if the goal is for no $ back

That’s a lot to give up for Drummond. Higher taxes in LA and a tail end career Lebron. Is that enough to convince him to stay? For most players his age, I’d say no way.

Randomly interjecting my thoughts on a variety of topics:

MIL made the right move by locking up Jrue. Is it gonna win then a championship? Probably not. But it’s their best shot. Trading for him helped them lock up Giannis, so once they gave up assets for Jrue you can’t let that go to waste. They’re still a very good team. Their best bet is to hope to win a championship ala the Raptors, stay in that contender tier and then hope things break your way with matchups, injuries, etc. Letting Jrue walk doesn’t get them anywhere. I get the sentiment to clown on them, but really we’re spoiled in doing so. They weren’t dealt the same hand of cards as we were.

Schröder is fine. Seems like just a few weeks ago we were talking about how badly we missed him when he was out for contact tracing. I’m not going to overreact to some mediocre games with Lebron/AD out. He’s not going to lead us to wins by himself, but when we’re healthy he’s a great 3rd - 5th option (our roster is such that there is a rotating cast of players who might slot in as the “3rd option” on any given night). Honestly aside from the Clipper game, I thought he’s looked decent in this stretch too, and his defense continues to impress. Is he worth $25 million? No way. But I think he’ll learn that, and we end up finding an agreement in the off-season where we retain him as an asset that we can always flip later.

For our last roster spot, it’s starting to feel like there won’t be any other high impact players popping up on the buyout market. While a “3&D” player is what we need, I’m not sure if a good enough “3&D” is on the market. Just snag the best player available, because the last roster spot is about depth and flexibility.
