hasn't drummond's FT shooting improved a lot in recent years?

i'd much rather drummond or whiteside over LMA. they don't need another big who can shoot and pass, they need rim protection

why sell off low-paid wing players for second rounders, even if you're terrible. expected value of seconds is pretty low. they're usually used as nominal fillers when you're moving salary or doing another team a favor. thus, to me, firesale means on consequential players. and all their consequential players are overpaid, at the end of their ropes, or both.

they're not getting dinwiddie or either heat guy for tucker (that's a rumor they started and continue circulating, i'm sure). that's insane. really think they end up buying out tucker.

is drummond a rim protector, though? or does is just seem like he should be? he's been a net negative on d lately, and the last time he looked good there numbers-wise was 3-4 years ago, i think. he rebounds, though, for sure. that's not a big issue for us, though.

came here to say this. i, like others, am still mad at him and wish him failure. seriously, eff that guy for what he did while we were down. i didn't even want to sign him that much then (saw this coming), but for him to s*** on the franchise publicly--which basically nobody does to anyone ever for good reasons?

anyway, all that is to say i'll almost be surprised if he doesn't go to the clippers. good, i need to reanimate my hatred for that lame and largely forgettable team.

btw, amick's logic for the lakers being after LMA reads like someone who a) doesn't have any actual sources and b) has only casually followed the lakers this year. in what way has the marc gasol signing not worked out as expected? he looks exactly like what i expected: 20mpg of smart, bruising basketball that shows up more in the win column than the stat sheet. and in what way would aldridge do things that marc gasol doesn't? hit open threes? did aldridge become a less putrid defender at age 35? is he going to smother guards on the pick and roll? gtfo, amick.

Popovich isn't trading with the Lakers. Why mention the Lakers?

right. and pop would rather not buy out and watch him walk to the clippers (or especially lakers, i'm sure). look for SA to try and sell him super cheap to phx or utah, or maybe even an eastern team on the fringes. gallinari hasn't played much for atlanta, right? maybe they want off that deal, and we know they aren't interested in defense.

main problem is that it's hard for contenders to match his salary without hurting themselves. dallas could do something with james johnson's 16 million expiring there, though. johnson/boban for aldridge works and may help both teams.

I never blamed Aldridge for the Lakers snub. Jim Buss was an embarrassment, our FO was in the stone age, and we gave him zero incentive to come. If anything, Aldridge's disinterest was one in a series of wakeup calls that Jeanie sorely needed.

I think they'll sell anything and everything outside of Wood and Wall to help their chances at Cunningham at #1. The issue with hustle players when you're tanking is they hustle and might accidentally win a few games.

wasn't aldridge the one where the first meeting went so terribly that they convinced him to attend a second one?

no one should blame him for not wanting to be in LA with the state that the franchise was in back then

they've lost like, 12 straight. at some point, you have to try to develop players. feel like the sixers aren't really the success story that people think they are. they had to suck on purpose for 5 years in order to be a middling playoff team. it's a bad model. and for second rounders? you can buy them. undrafted FAs perform almost as well.

no, he s***-talked the first meeting, claiming they didn't sell the basketball side to him (newsflash--we didn't have much to sell there). his agent realized what a screw up that was and they had a second meeting to allow the lakers to save face, but the damage was done.

unprofessional. simply decline and sign elsewhere like everyone else did. he piled on because he knew the press and fans would love it, but i bet his agent heard from folks outside of the lakers, too--you don't do that to the hornets, either. you never know when you'll need a friend.

anyway, sure, he can back up gasol and harrell for the minimum if he presents well in our meeting.

And if he does NOT present well, then we should trash him to the media. Not the FO, but we on social media sure as heck should!! I don't want him. He was right about us and it was one of the nails in Jim's coffin but it is still a bad look and a slight towards us. He could have handled it much better. Did we need it? Sure!! Team needed to be shaken, not stirred. But I still don't like it.

Adding LMA as a buyout is a no-brainer to me. He is still a highly effective midrange shooter.

    1) Drummond
    2) Tucker
    3) LMA

Pipe would be signing 2 out of the 3. But again...pipe

well jim buss and mitch's strategy to try and lure FAs to LA those final years was nothing more than "see all those banners hanging there? you could help win the next"

god what a nightmare those years were

I legit was scrolling down the thread and read the prior post about Houston so far not getting anyone to bite on offering an actual asset, and got lost in a train of thought fantasizing about signing Drummond and Tucker off the buyout market.

I feel both of them fit a need and would get plenty of playtime here, so we'd definitely be among the favorites to sign them even with only the minimum to offer. The only question is whether they get bought out. Drummond I think is more likely to get bought out because he has the larger contract that might be hard to find a trade that matches salary. Houston seems set on getting something in return for Tucker and his contract is small enough that they could definitely get some value. But at the moment it seems like they're holding him hostage because they have unrealistic trade demands. So maybe Tucker starts making enough noise that they end up going with the buyout to save face, so they don't continue getting a bad rep with other players.

I actually started to think it might be a possibility ... but to be fair, I had literally just hit the pipe :D
