Incredibly long and incredibly GREAT / MUST read. As great as the inside story was from those who were at the Clippers workout and have the footage to this day ..... this is that on steroids, in detail from the memories of everyone who was there including Michael Cooper. We’ve all heard of the legend of Jerry West allegedly saying after 20 minutes he had seen enough. In reality the workout went longer and only happened as a favor to Jerry’s good friend Arn Tellum who was Kobe’s agent at the time. Then West became obsessed on finding a way to get Kobe when they had only the 24th pick, which was used to take Derek Fisher. And the drama didn’t stop with the Nets torn, who really wanted Kobe at 8 as he had worked out for 1st year coach John Calipari as well ( but family and Tellum and Kobe held the threat of not signing and going to play in Italy for a year). Vlade balked at the trade to Charlotte initially and considered retiring for awhile, and then for 13 days following the draft Charlotte considered keeping Kobe and backing out, with West having to play it just right to get them to honor the deal. Just WOW. How blessed we as fans were. Find the time and read this when you can.
