2015 Nba Draft Discussion: Russell, Nance Jr., Brown

Considering how much praise Towns got last week for the same thing, I wonder if any of the "experts" that are suddenly down on Okafor will change their tune.

 

With his 3 ball and what he had to say about his FT shooting, I feel even better about his ability to evolve his game although his "bread and butter" will and should always be in the post.

On his FTs he said it was mostly mental. He lost the Notre Dame for them because of it and it was downhill from there. With his attitude and work ethic, mental can be fixed. He's 19, so beating yourself up for letting your team down like that and then it snowballing after that makes sense.

He also said, if a Laker, he wants to pick Kobe's brain. He admitted to getting down on himself easily (plays into the FT bit) and admires how Kobe can have a short memory on a missed shot. Sounds like a young man ready to be a sponge and absorb whatever he can from #24 before he's out the door.

Yeah be like a baseball infielder who gets the ball stuck in his mitt all the time with those meat hooks of his and have the ball do all kinds of bad things. Miss the rim on free throws. Think about it Flip, do you want to have to deal with "Hack-a-for" all the time? Show him the tank, Jah!

 

I've been flipping back and forth between Towns and Okafor everyday since the draft lottery. It all changed today with Okafor's workout and interview after...... I want him and I want him bad.

 

I get the impression that Towns wants to be the first pick, and if that's the case it makes some sense to not work out for teams and to schedule meetings with them late into the process. He is #1 on most team's boards, and his workout video had people going insane over him. There isn't much else he can do to impress teams besides interviewing with them, and by waiting he makes sure that he is fresh in their minds when it comes draft time. He's gone out of his way to tell everyone that he will play basketball anywhere, which is exactly what frozen Minnesota wants to hear.

On the other hand, I think Okafor wants to be a Laker, not the #1 pick. Comments about wanting to be a part of a winning tradition when the teams who could draft him are MIN/LAL/PHI/NY are thinly veiled because one of those four is not like the others. You could argue that PHI and NY have won in the past and are large markets, but I get the impression that Jah will do what he can do get to LA. Of course, Bill Duffy is known to have a good relationship with Flip Saunders, so who knows what will happen.
