what I learned in this thread: mitch enjoys watching his son play as much as he enjoys everything else in life: not. at. all.

 

It would be nice but he would have to slide a bit in the draft AND we would have to find a team willing to deal their pick for 27 and 34. Best shot would probably be Dallas or Chicago at 21 and 22, but most drafts have RHJ gone by then. I think to get any higher we would have to include a better asset (Clarkson or Randle...no thank you), or would have to take on a bad contract (also no).

I'm sure the Lakers are going to look at all options, but my guess is they either deal 27 or use it to draft and stash someone to keep their cap clear. Personally I'd like to see Delon Wright at 27, but not sure he lasts that long.

 

Haha, does that executive work for the Knicks by chance?

True story: Years ago I was at the yearly Lakers preseason game at the Pond (Honda Center, whatever)...I'm guessing it was probably 2005. I splurged on good, lower-level seats and happened to be in the aisle right be the tunnel. Well Mitch was walking by and I didn't want to pass up the opportunity, so I asked him to stop for a picture. Took a picture on a digital camera (before everyone had cameras on their phones), and I was grinning ear to ear while Mitch had the same Lurch face as always. Not even a little smile. I lost the picture when an old hard drive crashed, but never forgot that.

That's just how he is...probably have to be like that to handle being a GM, I would just be a ball of stress all the time (but also having the time of my life).

Sure he does. Such a shame what happened to Roy, though. Heck of a talent.

 

That's ONE exec's opinion, that's it. It's not out of the question that the Lakers take Russell, and also not out of the question that Philly decides not to go with another big and decide that they like Winslow better than Mudiay/Hezonja/Porzingis.

BUT, if that's the case I would think it would be more likely that PHI would just trade down a few spots with a team that wants Okafor and pick up an asset, only reason not to is if they are convinced that NY would take Winslow if Okafor/Towns/Russell are off the board AND they believe Winslow is much better than Hezonja, WCS, Mudiay, Porzingis, or whoever else might be available if they traded down to 5,6, or 7.

In other words, a lot of little things that are each individually unlikely to happen would have to come to pass in order for Okafor to drop to 4.

And of course we can't forget smokescreens are going to be EVERYWHERE for the next few weeks.

Okafor can very well be the best center in a couple years but you have to give him a good situation so that he can develop well. He doesn't fit well with what Minny is working with. Pek and Dieng are both very capable centers, unless they plan on moving Pek there's a log jam in the making. Okafor is a better fit in a slower offense, one that will pound the ball into the post, Wiggins fits better in a faster tempo.

 

So where do the other members here stand on Hollis-Jefferson vs. Justin Anderson? Seems like RHJ's stock is on the rise, but his lack of a jumper scares me. I definitely think he's the best defensive wing in this draft, possibly another MKG. But can we afford to trade up for a guy who can't shoot when 4 of our projected starters can't shoot?

 

I'd love to land either. Anderson certainly has a more polished game, including a 3 ball. But RHJ is a phenomenal defender. We have neither on the roster. Neither would be starting, rather backing up a Carroll (or another SF FA), so if you take RHJ you hope you can fix his shot within a couple years. Whichever one you can trade up for in the early 20s, you pull the trigger.

 

I would honestly prefer Anderson. I think RHJ is the better defender, but Anderson is no slouch.
