D'Angelo Russell gave a strong interview with the media - shot better than the other prospects I've seen though the last 2 weeks

D'Angelo Russell dined with Lakers' basketball operations staff last night. Russell will get dinner tonight with Lakers' coaching staff

Awesome. Now we're really getting down to the real stuff.

Okafor's first workout: Lakers. Mudiay's first workout: Lakers. Russell's first workout: Lakers.

I wonder where these guys want to go? lol

We didn't do this with Mudiay as far as I know. Interesting.

I'm going to be following tomorrow's day with Okafor really closely.

Mitch Kupchak's son Max was shooting around while we interviewed the 6 prospects-from what I saw, shot a heck of a lot better than all of em"

    "Draft Max? LOL!"

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak looked like a man in need of a charge.

    Maxwell Kupchak, Brentwood

His son, 6-foot-7 Brentwood School (Los Angeles, Calif.) junior Maxwell Kupchak, and his teammates gave him one with a 70-42 win over Bellarmine-Jefferson in the Nike Division title game of the MaxPreps Holiday Classic at Rancho Mirage High near Palm Springs.

With the Lakers in the midst of a five-game losing skid, the team's GM made the 70-mile trek East from Staples to watch Maxwell score a team-high 15 points, leading five Brentwood players in double figures.

Yonathan Napoleon had 12 points, Austin Lee and Ountae Campbell 11points and Tra Holder 10 points for Brentwood, which improved to 10-2.

Through the first eight games, Maxwell Kupchak is averaging 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He has season highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Mitch Kupchak enjoyed a 10-year NBA career and played, high school basketball interestingly enough, at Brentwood but in Long Island, N.Y.

Nope. We didn't. Very interesting. I think we'll do the same with Towns/Okafor.

I think he had to rush off to NY, I think he had dinner setup with them. So I'm guessing another night in LA LA land was out of the question.

Hopefully we'll stretch Okafor's out a few days. A different meal each day - breakfast, lunch, dinner. Then to house hunting. Tell him to tell Minny thanks but no thanks.

Russell said they mainly watched the game last time, but I'm guessing they wanted to see his thought process when watching a) NBA ball and b) the Finals.

    There ya go!

I'm loving the wine & dine we're doing with the young cats. Get to know these guys on and off the court to see if they're the kind of guys we want to build around for the next 15 years.

Flame away, but my draft board is:
    1. Towns
    2. Okafor
    2a. Russell

I'll be excited and not disappointed if we take Russell 2nd.

    Quote from the article:

I couldn't help but think of Towns in this quote because he clearly needs to make sure that his lower body is going to be strong enough to last him throughout his NBA career.

Fantastic article about him, his work ethic, and the tools he is using now to make his career in the NBA that much brighter. Makes me even more comfortable with landing Okafor. Beating a dead horse her but w really are in such a great position. Can't go wrong by the looks of it with Towns/Okafor.

angle I hadn't considered but I'm sure everyone else has: meeting respectfully with all these people might help when they become FAs in the future. it's not an opportunity the lakers usually get because they tend to draft so late.
