I don’t think that works currently, because we can’t sign Markieff for more than the minimum.

Now I wonder if we could do a McGee for Gasol sign and trade in a way that gives Gasol slightly more than the minimum, but also reduces our overall salary to then allow us to give Markieff his $3 million contract (raise using early bird rights).

 

This all makes sense aside from we'd be losing our only center to gain one, which puts us back to the same situation.

Thought that could've been a chance of that before he ended up in his last two spots. OKC would've flipped him for a pick and if you're giving a pick for him, you're not going to dump him. And with him now on Dallas, that's a good fit and I can't see them letting him go.

If we have to trade away McGee, and send out another asset in the process, just to give Gasol a bit more then the minimum, I don’t know how much that helps us. Only way it makes sense to me is if that also creates the path to re-sign Markieff.
