He's made over $100m in 10 years. By opting out, he has a chance to make more. All he has to lose is 200k. That's the discrepancy between what he was getting and the min for a 10 year vet. Not a bad gamble at 34 and gives you the freedom to pick your final (?) spot. Plus there's marketing opportunities even minimum contract guys get on a team in LA coming off a championship that you don't have in Wisconsin.
10 years plus vets minimum is 2.5 million. That’s what I mean it’s less than he would have made picking up his option with the Bucks. I’m just trying to understand why he’s coming here for less? Seems like he is hoping for a higher contract. I don’t want to split our MLE now with Ibaka and Gallo our there. If neither signs then sure split it between a couple players. Just don’t see us offering more than Vets minimum for him unless those guys are off the table right? Again I’m down for Matthews at the vets min for sure! More I’m not sure about.
I guess we’ll have to see. All I’ve read is we are going to pursue him, not that he’s also interested in us. I would assume we would only offer him vet minimum too. If he does want to come here I’d also assume it’s to chase a ring, the Bucks are a “contender”, but they aren’t LeBron and AD level contender, Giannis still has major holes in his game and Middleton is their second best player. You come here and you get a shot at a ring right now, I’m sure players saw guys like KCP, Caruso, Morris, and Green contributing and thought they could easily do that and win a ring.
He hasn't been the same player since he popped his achilles, but he's been fairly solid. Good effort, smart player reputation, but the days of high flying are long gone. Journeyman bench filler. He's not a KCP replacement for sure. KCP came up big regularly in the playoffs and Finals. It would be unfair to have those expectations of Matthews. Just not gonna happen.
That reminds me since you created this, never do this gesture in public here @sirronstuff it's considered uncouth and rude, and might get you lynched if directed to a woman
I only do that directed at heavy Filipino men while giving them the eyebrows so we should be good wow, where did that come from? I'm engaged, so I'm not even flirting in public these days lol
I went full privacy mode a couple of years ago. A messy divorce, getting hacked, finding out how Google and FB use your info, etc, etc. I get birthday greetings from friends on the wrong days of the year now since I use a slightly different date hahaha.
We've seen guys his age, who've made good money, forego millions to get a chance @ a ring. We are the world champs, The Bucks were given a gentleman's sweep in the 2nd round. He'll lose 128k and get to live in LA instead of Milwaukee and chase a ring with a good chance of succeeding. Think his off-season home is in or around Milwaukee? Anyways his and Green's stats were almost identical, seriously, with Green beating him on steals 1.3 to 0.6 otherwise they are almost identical in everything including minutes played. And both played with a super-star forward though Green had the advantage of Lebron's passing game. But the key stat is 15 mil off the books and 2.56 in it's place. And we don't even end up actually paying the 2.56 as the NBA pays us back on one-year vet min deals. They don't want teams to avoid signing vets in favor of cheaper, younger players so the NBA reimburses clubs who sign vets (3+ years experience) to 1- year, vet min deals.
Got used to @RonStu and him being from east L.A. How quickly he too learned how to make gifs and replaced and was more likeable than the other guy.
Bradley definitely sounds like he’s opting out. Re: BLE yes I believe we have that and maybe that gets used or split with Matthews and Howard possibly? I guess we just have to wait to see what AD takes as his deal and how much is left before the hard cap. Also what the market bares for KCP. Also if we can get either Ibaka or Gallo for MLE. I like Matthews and for the vets min he’d be a no brainer.
