Biden's age isn't the thing that worries me. It's his obvious cognitive decline. He obviously has taken a huge step back in mental acuity. The question is whether or not it's just old age and not being quite as sharp, or if it's the beginning of dementia.

That's not fear-mongering. He has trouble speaking and he's 77 years old. How is it fear-mongering to think a man that is already older than the average life expectancy of a male in the US might not make it through 4 years of the most stressful job in the world?

It's hard to say. It doesn't look like dementia to me (although I'm not an expert), more like a cognitive decline due to his advanced age. Yes, it's there but it's not horrible. At least not yet. He could do four years with some luck IMO. In any case, he is going to need help, hope he's got some good advisors.

Now, Biden as a person, or as a professional politician, does not worry me one bit. That's why I said that a 1995 Biden would probably be pretty good. Not the best, but far from the worst.

Politics aside, it's kinda sad that we all start declining like this at some point, physically and/or mentally. I know it's the most natural thing in the world, but still...

he's not sharp as a cue ball but i wouldn't say he has "trouble speaking." he's your typical old man in that sense. he sounded just fine to me in the debates

We all know what happened with Reagan, how he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's etc., but watch this video and you will see him - 4 years older than Biden! - delivering a 35-minute speech at the Republican National Convention. Pretty good if you ask me. People were saying that he had trouble thinking clearly from time to time even when he was in office, but he still did the job. Again, watch this ↓ and tell me people would not vote for him today if he was alive.

    Quick edit:

Even in 1984, he would occasionally go blank, like here:

    ...but you know what happened?

IMO it’s intellectually disingenuous to describe Biden as somehow being the candidate who is uniquely senile. Trump spouts verbal diarrhea on a daily basis that we’ve just become desensitized to. In the last few debates and public speeches, Biden looked surprisingly sharp to me. Sure, maybe that’s just because the bar is so low and he’s been minimizing his public appearances to reduce the chances of gaffes. But as an example, some of the main gaffes I can recall in the last debate were situations where he stuttered and misspoke regarding a number. For example, “there were 200 million - err, thousand Covid deaths” (not an exact quote, just an example of the type of “gaffe”). Where you know exactly what he meant, and the only reason it comes across as a miscue is because he cares about trying to correct himself. Trump says something inaccurate, intentionally or accidentally, and he just keeps pushing through because he doesn’t give a **** about the actual truth.

Biden with a Republican senate is NOT going to be good. Nothing of substance will change, any progressive policy advances will have been tempered by deal making with the Republicans to the point where they’d be incremental at best. More likely to give the illusion of progress while maintaining power within the establishment/billionaire donor class that McConnell and Biden both serve.

Republicans, I really don’t think you have too much to worry about. From the left, we have strongly disliked the Biden/Harris ticket because in our view they really aren’t leftists at all. Harris is moreso than Biden, but both are typical politicians that will pay lip service to the groups they need to appeal to. Harris thought that would be her lane initially, once she got on the Biden ticket and their internal math dictated that they should move to the center instead of the left, she started distancing herself from any of her previous progressive stances.

I genuinely think Biden sees the left as a nuisance that he had to delicately balance appealing to. When he’s elected, he can ignore us as he’s never really thought highly of us. He is NOT a Trojan horse.

The other factor is that the left will become politically disengaged now. Biden did not draw out these large number of voters. Anti-Trump sentiment did. Without Trump, we’ll stop paying attention.

I already think Biden should allow a primary in 2024 to rally behind a younger Democratic challenger.

If that doesn’t happen, I don’t see us re-electing a 82 year old incumbent who was never that liked in the first place and just went through 4 years of gridlock. If it does happen, we lose the incumbent advantage.

I anticipate strong Republican victories in the 2022 midterms and 2024.

So I’m not too optimistic really about anything regarding the state of our country or our political institutions.

But for now I’ll take a small sigh of relief of likely not having to hear as much from orange man over the next 4 years.

Lol, of course he’ll still be around, and to some extent may be making even more noise. I’m going to put my money on him gearing up to set up his own media outlet to compete with Fox News.

But it’ll be easier for me to tune him out as a private citizen rather then POTUS.

You know how last summer how WOJ went from reporting the news to manufacturing and twisting/withholding info from "sources" as well to favor a certain LA team? Painting the Lakers a certain way, painting Jeanie Buss and Rob a certain way because they weren't entirely media-friendly? ..... That's the kind of effort the media pulled out to get Trump outta here the last 4 years. It went from reporting to narrative driven...click bait worthy stuff to get viewers on both sides riled up and certainly one sided "reporting"

But ultimately its up to each American voter to educate themselves and make informed decision and not get influenced by media, sensationalism, fear mongering and being driven by emotion. Sucks that they fell for it. Especially the younger generation.

I think conservatives have to accept the voter's decision and move on. Learn from this and do better starting today for 2022 and 2024. Reach out to minorities, reach out to the other side, listen to people who disagree with you, more humanity and compassion and less twitter could have made a difference as well.

Love to see people celebrating on the streets but couldn't bother showing up to vote. Nice

I suppose election celebrations are not super spreader events now.

This is all true, but I do think the conservatives did quite well this year. It's Trump who did not, but he does not represent everyone in the Republican party. Political parties have to evolve & adopt new strategies all the time. That's not unusual, and it is - as you said - much needed. Expect both parties to make adjustments and we'll see what happens in 2022. I do like that so many people decided to go out and vote this year and hopefully the same thing happens next time. But without the pandemic... *fingers crossed *.
