KJ McDaniels is an absolute steal. Watched him play many times in college at nearby Clemson. Was putting up All-Rookie numbers in Philly until he was traded to Houston mid-season and relegated to the bench. Super athletic, and a good defender and shot blocker.
So we can expect Love to be arm wrestled to the ground every year? We can expect Rondo to get traded to a team he really didn't care for mid-season on his last year of his contract right? The point of having them for one year is exactly as it entitles: 1. No long term commitment if they turn out to be as you say "injury prone" or "cancerous". 2. You let them gel with the team to see if they like it, and if it's successful, it will... 3. Let them consider staying on a bigger, longer contract in 2016. If not, 2016 is a vast open sea of Free Agency you can start over again like every other team is planning to do anyway.
When you consider that the cap is expected to explode to uncharted levels in 2016, $14M will be more like $10M. If you're unable to land one of these stars, might as well lock up a system guy who will fit in the grand scheme in the long run. Just think WE COULD essentially have a 2016 lineup of: Clarkson Carroll Durant Randle Okafor AND STILL have money for another max player.
1. Wrestling under the basket goes with the PF territory. Why did Love allow himself to get put in that position where his shoulder was so vulnerable? Yes it was a dirty move, but Love needs to be smart enough & strong enough to not get injured in those situations. Now that it's obvious he was, do you think the other NBA 4s & 5s are going to say, "Let's go easy on Love since he is easily injured"? 2. Rondo was a head case before he ever arrived in Dallas.
Love has been doing that his whole career, why hasn't it happened before? It was what it was, a dirty move. Same with Kobe slamming into Bynum's knee, it just happened, nothing you can do about it. He'll be fine. Rondo is a head case, but he's a talented head case that wants to play with talent. Is he without flaws? Of course not, but he's shown that he's plenty capable when motivated. I'm not saying he's worth the max, far from it, but it's worth giving him a shot on a one year deal at a certain price point.
Precisely. I think some fans are operating under the old CBA rules, but when the cap blows up 14 million for Carroll will look fine. It'll essentially be half a max contract. A max contract for a 10 year veteran in the NBA next year will START at over 30 million dollars. Yeah. I'll pay Carroll 14 million this summer without a problem as long as we've got plans to add a backup PG and hopefully a veteran Center as well.
If we end up spending a ton of money on a guy like Love or Aldridge or something, McDaniels is a great value find. He was a darling fantasy basketball pickup for me until he got traded. I'm not a fan of us going super young in FA unless it's on one of the RFA forwards, but this would be a good addition.
Ahhh ..... More Americans with hammer and cycle for the C type espionage. I like it.... "poison pill"

Good work RandleROFY. Gerald Green, Dunleavy, Afflalo, Aminu, & Wes Matthews stand out as potential value signings based on those #'s. Tobias Harris was higher than I expected him to be in some of those categories.
