something tells me that steinbrook is hilarious. btw, he's got crazy post game. he's just only about 6'7" and makes me look like a young Gerald Wallace.

    also, isn't it stainbrook?

Steinbrook is a basketball marvel. You see this guy on the street and you think he's working at a deli somewhere. First game I saw him play in I thought it was a joke. I don't think he's a NBA'er, maybe he'll get a 14th spot somewhere but don't see that lasting.

    Quite a claim

Also, Joshua Smith is listed as 350 lbs...that's a big boy.

Here's a link to Towns' workout/interview with DraftExpress.

That workout helped alleviate some concerns about his lower body. He moves well, but if you watch the workout you can see a lot of a side-to-side motion still in his knees. Even he admits he's got thin legs. He says his legs are strong still, but I think he's mistaking his explosiveness for strong legs. Jumping high doesn't mean you have strong legs, definitely not at an NBA type of level. He needs to bulk that out a bit even if it takes away from his overall explosiveness (which it really shouldn't anyway). Those thin legs are going to be a problem in NBA traffic inside.

Still, the way he moved was encouraging. He's got fantastic coordination for his size. His body certainly CAN mature well. If we get him at #2 I'll be happy, but I hope he starts off coming off the bench for us so he can get acclimated slowly.

I think his workout videos were pretty impressive. Definitely won't shed any tears if he ends up a Laker.

Yeah there's another one of Russell where he basically admits that playing 3 vs. 0 isn't really indicative of what these guys are capable of.

Really all I watched in that workout was his body mechanics. The way he shoots. The way he walks, jumps, steps back, etc. He really does need to put some weight on his legs. I was disappointed to hear him say he has strong legs when that's clearly not true. He needs to stop bench pressing and start doing muscle building workouts on his legs and butt 3 times a week.

Long article but worth the read for anyone with an espn insider account. First part of a series on each of the top picks. I pulled a few quotes. (Yes, it was written by Ford...I know I know...lol)

Making the case for being No. 1: Karl-Anthony Towns

I'm honestly starting to feel like this is really picking between an Anthony Davis or Tim Duncan. There are arguments to be made for both guys and I'm not sure you can really go wrong here. Both guys look like great pros to me.

Reminded me of what Calipari said:

"He doesn't have the physical maturation yet," Calipari said. "Within two or three years, when he gets that weight in his butt, in his thighs that he's going to have, now it becomes another one of those kids you look at and you say, 'Oh my gosh. I didn't realize he was going to be like this.'

I don't think Towns will be as dynamic as Davis. I'm not sure what a good comparison would be for Towns honestly. Maybe Garnett? I think you might be picking between Garnett and Duncan in terms of ceiling/talent level. I doubt either guy gets to the heights those guys have obviously enjoyed, but they make for tremendous prospects.

Exactly. Put some weight on your legs, Karl! You're not a guard. You don't need the low weight. You need the strong legs, butt, and back so that you can deal with the pounding of an NBA Power Forward/Center.

Still, I'm definitely warming up to him. All he needs to do is add that weight and suddenly we're looking at one hell of a player. Able to shoot, defend, play a little inside... I still think he won't be nearly as effective as he wants to be until he puts that weight on though. Even in his workout you can see in the way he sets screens and moves in the post that his legs just won't give him the kind of strength he needs at the next level. Not yet anyway. I think he's about 2-3 years from being a monster if he lands with us though.

    Stainbrook
    6'10" 280 C
    Western Michigan (2), Xavier (2)
    STATS
SR: Scoring 6.0, Passing 2.8, 3.1 Hustle, 83 Offense (Big)
Career: Scoring 5.7, Passing 2.5, 3.4 Hustle, 84 OFfense (Big)
-Good passer, improved FG% and FT% basically every season (From 52.4 and 53.5 to 61.3 and 76.4). Foot speed? Athleticism? I don't know.

    Josh Smith (Georgetown)
    6'10" 350# Center
    UCLA (4), Georgetown (2)
    STATS
SR: 6.3 Scoring, 2.2 Passing, 3.7 Hustle, 99 Offense (Big)
Career: 6.3 Scoring, 1.8 Passing, 3.8 Hustle, 98 Offense (Big)
-Pretty dominant scorer, solid rebounder and defender who fouls at a ridiculous rate (6.6 per 40 in his career, was twice over 7/40).

    Alan Williams
    6'8" 265 PF/C
    UC - Santa Barbara
    STATS
SR: 6.1 Scoring, 2.2 Passing, 3.8 Hustle, 97 Offense (Big)
Career: 6.3 Scoring, 1.9 Passing, 4.1 Hustle, 106 Offense (Big)
-Big fish in a small pond? Career Usage Percentage off the charts (32.0, Conference record), but he scored a ton of points.

    Alex Harris
    6'1, 180# PG
Northeastern (1), Cal State Fullerton (3)
    STATS
SR: 5.9 Scoring, 3.0 Passing, 2.3 Hustle, 68 Offense (PG)
Career: 5.5 Scoring, 2.8 Passing, 2.5 Hustle, 59 Offense (PG)
-Can't shoot, not a PG. Unless he's an elite defender, I don't see him making it.

    Alpha Kaba
-He logged 31 minutes in LNB (France). Hard to say. He'd be a "stash for years" kinda guy.

SR: 5.9 Scoring, 2.3 Passing, 2.6 Hustle, 62 Offense (Wing)
Career: 5.4 Scoring, 2.3 Passing, 2.5 Hustle, 56 Offense (Wing)
-Shot all over the place (38%, 43%, 53%, and 46%), bad 3pt shooter, decent scorer. Picked up lots of steals.

    Cliff Alexander
    6'8" 240# Forward
    Kansas (1 yr)
    STATS
FR: 5.7 Scoring, 1.5 Passing, 3.8 Hustle, 85 Offense (Big)
-Solid scorer, good rebounder; seems to have lots of potential, but could use an outside shot.

    Mitch McCarron
    6'3 215# G
    Metropolitan State
    STATS
SR: 6.3 Scoring, 3.2 Passing, 2.5 Hustle, 77 Offense (Wing)
-Hit >40% of his threes; a good shooter, a good overall player who was one of the most diminant in school history. I'm not sure how it would translate in the NBA.

McCarron looks like Gordon Hayward's less lucky brother. he's his seth curry.

surprised stainbrook is actually 6'10". I thought he was shorter based on the games I watched him play.

I think it's interesting that most of the nba insiders think towns/okafor is such a landslide in towns' favor. and that okafor's not a lock to be taken over Russell. they must all see things I don't or not see things I do.

that one anonymous gm even said towns has the size over okafor. isn't this objectively false?

Yes. Maybe you could make a case for him "playing bigger" because of his hops, but by measurables Okafor is a little taller and heavier.
