I'm hoping we either draft a SF or acquire 1 through FA & then dump Young to create additional cap space. As for who would want him, a team like Chicago makes sense to me. They need someone on the wing next to Butler & don't have cap space or a decent pick to get that player with. I could see them coveting s player like Young who can put up 6th man scoring numbers while making less than the MLE, they have historically been penny pinchers.

Actually Nick showed that when he's engaged he can be a good defender.

With nicky, kelly, brown, and sacre gone it pretty much equals a starting SF/C IMO OR throw in our second first and move up in the draft or for proven player.

Good for you, Nick. Now get in the gym so you can practice those 'long 2's' and isolations that Byron wants...

Young is now engaged off the court...now he needs to be fully engaged on it.

The kid can score & that's it... There's nothing else I like about his game or his personality..
IMO, his $9M contract packaged with the 27 & 34 picks is worth moving for more depth..

^^My bad.. Was getting Nick's & Hill's contracts mixed up..

But I'd still be interested in packaging him with our later draft picks though... : )

I actually still like Nick as our 6th man/scoring option off the bench still. It's a good position for him. He wanted to be here when no one else did and I still value that.

I'd really only move him for a competent, veteran SF or PG and even then I'm not that sure I'd do it. SF is our weakest position by far. By moving Nick we're looking at weakening it even more... Whatever we do this summer I'd like to move on from the Wesley Johnson era.

Say we move him for a back-up PG like Jarrett Jack. Now we have to find a starting SF AND a backup SF... Makes me kind of nervous about that position. Maybe we could package Nick and find a starting caliber SF, but who?

To say that Nick "wanted to be here" is a bit exaggerated.. He wanted to be in LA, be a celebrity & have lot's of opportunity to shoot the ball..
Also, Swagg is more suited to be a Shooting Guard IMO.

I agree that he can be a great scorer off the bench.. I'd just prefer we move him if the right scenario presented itself.

I don't think there's anything exaggerated about that actually. He wanted to be a Laker when he signed here the first time. He and his agent both said he'd always wanted to be a Laker and he signed here for the minimum. Here's a link.

Then when he signed here again long-term he had gotten offers elsewhere for more. He wanted to be here. Back when Dwight left and everyone was saying the Lakers weren't the place to be anymore, Nick kept things alive and fresh.

I never necessarily expected Nick to be here when we turned everything around, but he was entertaining when very little else was in LA. I appreciate that. If we can improve the team, I'll move him but otherwise he provides value off the bench for us.

Yea Nick did us a solid with his loyalty. He had a bad year, I think he turns it around this coming season.

Eh.. Well, guess I'm just not much of a Swag fan... Suppose if we had a legit starting 5, a good backup PG & all we need Swaggy to do was come of the bench & shoot the ball, he'd be great.
