Riley was at the point of being a megalomaniac. Even wanted to call the shots on the theme music. After a stint with the Knicks and Heat as coach, the management offer was on the table which he consulted Buss on. My last comment made it look like he jumped straight to the Heat who I can tolerate because of him and Spoelstra.

"[Buss] really let all of us know if there’s an opportunity out there and you’ve got it -- don’t blow it,” Riley said.

There was no place for him as we still had West at his best and later on Kupchak whom he was grooming to be his eventual replacement.

this was my point: we could have tried harder to get him as successor to west instead of kupchak. how much would recent nba history be different if that were the case?

now, maybe he wouldn't have accepted it. or maybe west wouldn't have accepted it. in which case, ok. but was there evidence we raised the idea? didn't feel like it at the time. later, we considered bringing back jackson despite his demonstrating that he wasn't fit for that kind of job. wonder if that was overcorrection for past mistakes.

It would have been awkward having Riley overseeing the organization after burn-out on the job coaching. Who knows if the idea was raised. I don't think he had his coaching yen satisfied. From his book, he felt he needed to be elsewhere at that point in time.

I do think Riley could have been a better successor than Kupchak. He had a better personality...was driven to succeed. I don't think there would have been an 11 year lapse. He could have convinced big free agents to sign here. We may not have suffer through the Jim Buss experiment. Imagine a Riley-Jackson relationship? Too big egos?

Riley and Jackson would never have worked. Jackson doesn't work with anyone. He had issues with anyone and everyone in every place he has been.

plus they gave Riley a small ownership stake if I remember right. That wasn't going to happen in LA, and they were up front with him about that. It was better for him to go to Miami.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but why is the ECF getting 3 Days off between Games 3 & 4 while the WCF has to play every other Day..? Game 3 was on the 19th & they don't play again until Wed.. That's basically 4 Days between games.
This seems like an unfair advantage.
More reason for the Lakers to take care of business & get some rest before the Finals.

The ECF was 2 games ahead of the WCF so they put a gap in between games so that the series are now at the same time roughly.

Which is only fair for the final series. It would suck if one team had to go in completely rested and the other just got out of a series.

That's OK. It makes sense to me, except we could possibly, with some luck, sweep - and the Eastern teams could enter a true slug fest, resulting is us being more rested anyway. Not saying it will happen, of course, but it could.

Kevin Garnett Says His NBA Era 'Could Never Play in a Bubble'
    • Amongst several topics discussed (more on that in a sec) the NBA legend talked about, as ex-players often do, the generational difference of today's game versus the era in which he played. More relevantly to 2020
    • he said that his generation couldn't have handled the league's current bubble because things were just a little more
We could NEVER play in the bubble... you know how much I'll be screaming 'get that sh*t out of here'... players walking around naked, balls swinging..."

Kevin Garnett is talking like he played 30 years ago or something. Half the current league played against him.
