NYC is iconic and I would hate to see it permanently become desolate. But I don't really see that happening. Even now when we're in the middle of the pandemic, a lot of companies that feasibly could work remotely without a drop in productivity are still having people come in. It's still too ingrained in our work culture the idea that you have to commute to an office and sit in a cubicle farm for 8 hours. I think for the most part, all that office space will still be used. To some extent, I imagine a lot of the New Yorkers themselves see the city life as part of their lifestyle and would prefer to continue going into the city rather then permanently working remotely.

But even if NYC did take a hit due to remote work, long term I still see it as a positive if more companies move to remote work when viable. As a worker, I love working from home. There is probably a big environmental benefit from the downtick in commuting. As an executive, I'd probably love the cost-savings of eliminating office space. Sure, it will have negative impact on real estate, service/maintenance workers for those office spaces, etc. But isn't that the idea of capitalism? If society collectively reflects and determines that we have the technology to work remotely which overall has a net boost to productivity and business efficiency, we shouldn't hold off on that and maintain an inefficient system just because of the tangential business that would suffer collaterally.

so many are taking advantage of the eviction rule even if they can pay, and then they are moving as soon as it's over. The people left holding the bag are people that own property who still owe money on the mortgage

Are they pausing all mortgages also? For some reason people think property owners or small business owners have deep pockets and a financial reserve. That is very rarely the case.

This makes me so angry. I see people on other boards who are openly admitting to doing this because for some reason they believe landlords are all like Donald Sterling to where they have billions in the bank and are evil mustache twirling villains. So many property owners use the rent each month to pay for the mortgage on that property. They are using it as an investment vehicle that will hopefully one day be paid off and then they can live off the rental income in retirement. They are like their 401ks. If I was a landlord and found out about that, I'd go to their employer and tell them the kind of person they had working for them. Hopefully they'd at least get fired.

Any evidence of “so many” people are doing that?

Covid is not serious and so we need to open everything up because people are hurting financially.

People are doing fine financially and instead taking advantage of the relief programs/eviction postponements to screw over landlords for their own profit.

    Which one is it?

    Oh,boy...
    University of California President
Janet Napolitano recently issued an executive order requiring every student, faculty and staff member across the university system to get a flu shot, and now Children’s Health Defense is taking action and suing the university for its ill-advised move in light of scientific evidence that flu shots aggravate coronavirus.

Students and staff have until November 1 to get the shot. Although they claim there will be a process for faculty and staff to request medical exemptions, it has not yet been put in place.

If they really are so worried about the burden on the health system, they should keep in mind that a 2020 Pentagon study found the flu shot actually raises the risks posed by coronavirus by 36 percent

But hey, Cuomo sending COVID-19 patients to senior housing centers to recover and then killing people but being praised for his work is clearly the headline while Trump is the evil killer. Family and friends couldn't see their loved ones who died from COVID but De Blasio allowed riots, looting, and even had no issue with people congregating while he painted a BLM mural in Manhattan. Leftist Democrats are the absolute worse...

"Never let a good crisis go to waste" -Saul Alinsky

I’ve had people tell me that people and news outlets on the right are interpreting these numbers wrong. And I say to them: “how else are you supposed to interpret it?” Smh. I’m just waiting for a left leaning site/paper/entity to “debunk” it.

I don't doubt for a minute that it's real and miserable, but it's been highly politicized. When there are agendas involved, the facts don't matter as much as what you can make the situation do for you.

But for CNN, a notorious left leaning source to say that, that's pretty Wow. Shocking actually.

    I think it's Trump bait

CNN: Only 6% of the deaths were related to Covid only

Trump: See everyone, I told you it wasn't such a big deal.

CNN: I thought you said we were fake news? But if what we report fits YOUR agenda it's true?

    :ADnaughty:

    I see you working.

This is one of the worst..points (?), arguments(?) I’ve heard yet, nice cherry-picking by Tim there

Parts of the article he didn’t clip for a screenshot

“The CDC's latest regular update to a public statistics page on the pandemic -- there was nothing especially "quiet" about it -- said that for 6% of the deaths included in its statistics, "Covid-19 was the only cause mentioned" on the deceased person's death certificate.

That is not at all the same thing as saying only 6% of reported Covid-19 deaths "actually died" from Covid-19. It simply means that the other 94% were listed as having at least one additional factor contributing to their death.

For example, the other 94% includes people whose death certificate listed both Covid-19 and obesity, both Covid-19 and diabetes, or both Covid-19 and heart disease -- among other conditions.

People can live with obesity, diabetes or heart disease for years but then get infected with Covid-19 and die quickly. The fact that they also had an underlying condition does not mean that Covid-19 was not a major reason, or the major reason, they died when they did.”

I’m a high risk to get very sick or die if I get this, I have multiple underlying conditions. This is not a joke, or a hoax, or a government conspiracy, it’s a virus, which is a real thing and from time to time hits human beings very hard. Seemingly only in this day and age of twitter and is inching closer and closer to Idiocracy becoming real life can people on a whole be this dumb though. Believing whatever blurb they read, whatever easily doctored video they see on Facebook, or whatever their cult leader Trump tells them is true, it’s quite sad.

So it's super dangerous to those who have other health issues... It's still misleading to present them as COVID-19 deaths when it's other factors involved. Again, here you are quoting a media source that has been shamelessly attacking the President for years now through deception and misinterpreted information. The fact is, the majority of people around the world are SAFE from COVID-19... If you're young and healthy, the odds you die from this is VERY LOW. If you have health issues, you shouldn't even be outside... But here we are talking about how it's so dangerous and that Trump has killed 200k people. Yeah, because Trump is responsible for the 6,200 deaths when Cuomo decided to send sick COVID patients to senior centers... Yeah, that's Trump's fault. My recommendation is if you have health issues or even if you don't and you're young but take care of someone who does, you should be outside as FEW as possible. Don't get the coronavirus when you have numerous health issues (such as obesity) and then blame Trump. Blame yourself. And also, how about don't being obese and chugging ten cheeseburgers a day.

All you do is watch leftist sources on YouTube, post those videos, and then disappear for days before you post a new video. Rinse and repeat. But I guess if your motto is the leftist which is just run away and seek confirmation bias sources, you do you. And I love your anecdotal evidence but you mentioning that you are a very 'high risk' to the coronavirus. If you're a high risk, great, stay home. I have a family member who tested positive for coronavirus because he took the test for the hell of it and he didn't even know... He was feeling fine minus a headache. He's now recovered. So quit making it seem as if the moment you step outside, this virus will kill you. It's dangerous for SOME, not to ALL - as evidenced with the LOW death rate for young individuals.
