Fair points. Those are complex issues, but IMO worthwhile points to try and develop complex solutions for. If the NFL has pledged money to specific donations over the next several years, NBA can do so as well. I do think it’s a legitimate problem that many black candidates are often overlooked for coaching/management jobs. Yes you can’t just set up a quota and force teams to higher under qualified black people, but right now it seems the opposite where white candidates get the nod over more qualified black candidates, so something has to be done.

That probably requires more of a culture shift rather then specific policy changes though. Because honestly some of that probably isn’t racial. For example, Colangelo and Dunleavy don’t keep getting brought up as potential GM/coach hires over more qualified black candidates because they’re white, they get considered because they’re part of the club of NBA elites.

Kyrie aside, not personally a fan of the guy, he seems extremely ruled by emotion and maybe not that smart, I’m not sure this is going to work. The NBA would have to go into a bubble that the players would not agree to. Baseball is trying to start up and look what happened there already

Add to this that the NBA would be in Florida, the state with huge numbers of new cases coming out, as much as I want basketball, I see this having setbacks as soon as it starts.

^I have my reservations as well with the season being continued under the current circumstances... Eventually, there will be players that will contract it. Then what? It still has to be done however re-starting the season that is.

I agree, they have to at least try. But I do fear things like sabotage, fans trying to touch star players or something to get them knocked out. What happens if Lebron or Davis get it? What if we have a finals of last man standing teams, a bunch of bench players from the Clippers or us vs the bench of the Bucks or Raptors? Already no fans in the stands and then that, it would be a disaster.

the only reason it "has to be done" is because of all the money involved

like i said, they're just playing with fire by actually going ahead with this orlando thing. at some point, a player or coach will test positive and then what happens? just ride it out until one team has no positive cases? how is any of this a good idea?

does it suck as a lakers fan? absolutely. team is gonna make the playoffs for the first time in 7 years and has a legit shot at the title and then this sh*t? as much as i want to see my team win it all, i would hate for it to be under these circumstances

Silver knows out of sight, out of mind. UFC is doing their thing because it's easier for them but they comply with their contractual obligations, the NBA play stoppage will absolutely kill their profit most teams are losing money as it is.

I see the restart happening and falling apart. I'd like that not to be so, but not sure it's going to be all that preventable. Teams better have maximum bodies on their roster to deal those that fall out.

And if Kyrie thinks he has the ear of today's players, and that they will follow him in this crazy quest to start a league, I think he's crazy. He's gotten rich off of a system that is pretty dang fair, but has paid the price in the press for being a bit of a character. He's his own worst enemy, and he should not be the poster child of anything to be taken seriously. Uncle Drew 2 is officially called off.

I'm glad they are trying. Fans will truly appreciate it, but at the end of the day, if it becomes unsafe, then they will scrap the plans.

Even if the players are very likely to not be affected. I hope this isn't what the new world we live in looks like for very long.

I am sure the NBA and Disney are doing EVERYTHING imaginable to mitigate risk. These players are going to get whisked from the airport straight into the ESPN Zone (or whatever it’s called) bubble and none of these guys are going to be strolling around downtown Orlando, if there even is such a thing. There is so much riding on this, and not just for the NBA, or the players, but for Disney/ESPN as well. I’m nervous too, but you can’t look at what’s happening around the country as an indicator of what’s going to happen at a quarantined sports complex. Everyone involved wants this to work.

i wouldn't say everyone involved wants it to work. definitely all the NBA/ESPN/Disney people

but i think its safe to say there's a good amount of players who are not on board with this idea. and how can you blame them? going through with this thing in FL given the current situation is just not smart

NBPA Executive Director Michelle Roberts Believes Most NBA Players Want To Resume Season

Lakers Video: Snoop Dogg Pays Tribute To Kobe Bryant During 2020 ESPYS

Though it is basically in the background now amidst all of the social unrest across the country speaking up against police brutality against African-Americans, the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak remains a major problem in this country and was the reason for the NBA shutting down.

Concerns about public safety still remain as the pandemic seems to be picking up steam again and spreading across the country. With the NBA and NBPA having agreed to a plan to return to play and finish out the season, the systems in place on protecting the players and ensuring everyone remains safe are coming into question as players would be taking a huge risk by coming back.

The NBPA has been involved in all discussions regarding the return led by executive director Michelle Roberts and president Chris Paul. Roberts recently spoke about the return and expressed a belief the majority of players supportthe season resuming, via Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe:

“I think the players are where they want to be,” she said. “They want to give it a shot and if it doesn’t work, well, we tried. Hopefully nothing catastrophic will happen and we can just figure out Plan B. If the worst would happen and it would spread, we shut it down. This is the virus. I’m going to be disheartened, but I’m not going to be surprised because there’s no scientific or medical ability to protect against it. The players know it. The teams know it.

Roberts also noted that the NBPA and the league are doing everything they can to limit the risks and protect the players:

“We’re doing absolutely everything we can to mitigate it. If I didn’t think we were, that the league was half-stepping, then I would recommend with every ounce of my being that our players not even think about playing again. But that’s thankfully not the case.”

Of course, with everything else going on in America right now, this isn’t the only thing on players’ minds when discussing a potential return. That being said, Roberts is adamant that when it comes to players’ safety the league is doing everything it can to protect them.

There is clearly a contingent of players who don’t believe the league should resume at this time, but just how many is still unclear. Roberts is of the belief that most of them want to play and if that really is the case, the league will almost surely be returning unless there has been a big change of heart amongst the league’s biggest stars.

I just saw that Jokic tested positive as well as 2 Phoenix Suns players.

I honestly don't think this will happen and it probably shouldn't to be honest.

Djokovic acted like a moron, he basicly asked for it (good for him i guess, since he's an "anti vaccines guy").
That being said, NBA season is not coming back.

Man I don’t know which way this will go anymore. I lean more towards they will just push through and play the season, but I sold my Draftkings stock, so I’m not betting on it returning anymore.
