I think the truth lies somewhere in between what Kuzmoball is saying and what our media is saying. I do think a lot of people have had it and the fatality rate is far lower. I also don't think we should have shut down the economy and freaked out. But I think this thing is more dangerous than the flu since it's a novel virus. There probably should have been a total lockdown for a couple weeks in the beginning to flatten the curve, then continue the lockdowns for at risk people. The economy could have survived a two week shutdown. It's the all or nothing that has made this ridiculous. The tribalism that has turned into Red States = Open everything and f**the weak; Blue States = Shut everything down until 2025 and be cowards. Obviously that's not what's happening at all, but the media is making everyone believe that's the case.

In a survey of all 30 general managers, which was viewed by ESPN, 16 said they would prefer the league come back with just the typical 16 playoff teams

Boy, I wonder WHICH 16 teams voted for the 16-team playoff?

There's a lot of focus right now on a 22-team model of bringing teams back to Orlando in a play-in situation. ... Thursday will be the day of the vote and it's expected to overwhelmingly pass.

I haven't changed one damn thing the last 2+ months. Drive around all over southern California. Work, play, work, play, hang out, drink, whatever. Jack s*** has happened. This entire thing is a giant jerk off. If sports were still on, it would be the perfect life.

It's not just sports. I miss being able to go to my favorite restaurants. I miss going to the movie theater. I miss playing in my soccer league. All these things have been closed/cancelled and I have no control over it.

I'm not a huge fan of this, but whatever, just give me NBA basketball again. Makes sense regarding some regular season games to warm up and you can see they want to make up some revenue with this tournament to determine 8th seed. I'd rather just have the 16 as they stood when the season was postponed but the NBA is going to push this and I'm just glad we are getting closer to returning. Could be worse. At least it's not all 30 teams or even 24. The more limited it is the better.

NBA Rumors: 22-Team Regular Season Format Would Include Eight Regular-Season Games, Then Play-In Tournament

Lakers Among Teams To Sign Casey Wasserman’s Letter To Los Angeles County Supervisors Outlining How Sports Can Return
    Published on06/01/2020
    AUTHOR
    Matt Peralta

Although the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has yet to subside, professional sports leagues have begun to finalize steps to resume play.

The NBA, after suspending its 2019-20 regular season back in March, is finally on the cusp of a return as the league and the NBPA have been in constant discussions on plans to get going again. The NBA recently announced talks with Walt Disney World to use the resort and theme park as a bubble location for the teams invited to compete.

Also, there have been ongoing discussions on an acclimation period of a couple of weeks to help players with their strength and conditioning. While those two issues have been seemingly addressed, the last major hurdle is the format in which the regular season would resume.

So far, the NBA has reportedly discussed four primary options for a potential restart, with them ranging from a direct start to the playoffs to select teams participating in a play-in tournament to decide seeding.

However, the plan with the most reported momentum appears to be a 22-team format that would allow a few non-playoff teams the chance to compete for the spot in each conference’s playoff bracket. According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, that plan would also include eight games for each team:

Sources: If the NBA resumes play with a 22-team regular season format, teams will likely play eight games each. Then, a play-in tournament would take place for the eighth seed in each conference. Plans aren’t finalized yet but as of now it appears conferences would stay in place.

The eight regular-season games represent close to half the remaining contests on each team’s schedule and provides several tune-up opportunities for them to get used to live action again. While those games primarily affect the borderline playoff teams, it does give a team like the Los Angeles Lakers a chance to build up some momentum prior to the 2020 NBA Playoffs starting.

The most interesting part of the plan is the play-in tournament that would add a level of intrigue and excitement to the postseason. The tournament coupled with the remaining regular season games should help the league recoup some of the revenue that was lost during the hiatus, a win-win for both sides.

However, the plan does have its downsides. The most glaring one is the sheer volume of people involved with 22 teams all at the bubble location as this would heighten the risk of contracting COVID-19.

Although it may ultimately be deemed unnecessary to bring so many people over, this plan appears the best suited to address all the needs and concerns for both the league and the players. Everyone will be waiting to hear what Adam Silver recommends come next week.

I don't remember you ripping me the next day?

Kobe, RIP, is not in the MJ category. He just is not, he is an all time great, but he isn't MJ

    5 mvps to 1
    6 fmvps to 2
    Better stats, basic and advanced
Better all time performances in the playoffs and finals

On a side note, thank god the Lakers get a chance to finish this season and get some closure

Kobe didn't have his own team until year 9 of his career. Comparing careers of players who were Option 1 the first day is dumb.

They really want to get Zion in the playoffs. The reffing for the Pelicans final games is going to be very interesting.

They really do. The one that mystifies me is the inclusion of the Suns though. They are 6 games back. They have next to no shot of getting in. I wouldn't have bothered with them.

I would have rather just gone with the 16 teams that would have been slated for the playoffs as I've been saying, but ultimately I'm fine with this. 8 regular season games to play and we are ahead of the Paper Clips by 5 1/2 games. We should be absolutely fine to keep our West number one spot.

The one team that of course worries me is Portland taking that 8th seed. Dame can be a beast and if he and McCullum get hot it can spell trouble. Otherwise not too concerned about: Grizz, NO, Spurs, Sacto.

Mainly, heck yes we're going to finally see basketball again!!!

Watch for it .... like when the XFL debuted the first time we are going to see some new camera angles and trick production ideas trying to make up for the loss of excitement and negative visual impact of having no fans packing the playing locations. Could be interesting. But won’t make up for it that much I would think.

Portland is the 9th seed, why would they not want to get in? Whatever, basketball is back.

Maybe Portland was voting to play all the remaining games to up their chances of getting in, not against the 22 team format (don’t even know if that was an option). But like you said, who cares basketball is back.
