We all saw this coming. Once Nash's nerves became an issue again, it was obvious Lin had to move into the starting role. All that stuff I said about chemistry now switches around.

We need Lin out there with the starting unit if for nothing else then his defense.

Lin/Price for the rest of the season. I'm okay with that.

That's most likely what it will be and it moves us into a place where our backcourt might gain some respectability of the defensive end; Lin/Price aren't NBA all 1st team defender but their quick enough to stay with their man individually and at least funnel them into help defense. This move goes a long way in improving this team and giving us the best chance to win games this season...

Steve Nash has had an incredible career, but the two-time most valuable player might have to adapt to a new role in what is probably his final NBA season: coming off the bench as a backup.

Lakers Coach Byron Scott indicated that Jeremy Lin might become the starting point guard because of Nash’s recurring back problems, a switch that makes sense due to Nash’s
    on-again, off-again availability.

Nash played well in the Lakers’ exhibition opener but sat out their second game and took himself out of their third because he didn’t feel right.

Nash, who turns 41 in February, played only 15 games last season and is in the last year of a contract paying him $9.7 million this season. He averaged 6.8 points and 5.7 assists in the games he played.

Scott said he hadn’t made up his mind on a permanent switch, but he appeared to be leaning toward Lin, 26.

I have no doubt in my mind that if I went to Steve and said tomorrow, ‘You know what, I’m going to start Jeremy and the games that you’re available, we’re going to bring you off the bench,’ he’s such a professional that I don’t think it would be a problem whatsoever,” Scott said.

Lin might not be able to play in Thursday's exhibition against Utah because of a sprained ankle, but he should be ready to go against Phoenix on Sunday in the fifth of the Lakers' eight preseason games.

Nash was not available for comment Tuesday after the Lakers practiced.

He couldn't even make it past 1 pre-season game without this issue coming up again. At least Scott knows in order to create some kind of chemistry, Nash must come off the bench, feeling healthy or not. It's a good decision that I think we all knew was going to happen sooner or later. I might even go so far as to give Price more minutes off the bench if he plays with more energy although he still needs to improve in several areas. He seems like a bit of a loose cannon to me.

Here's hoping that he finally hangs it up. Honestly I don't think he fits well with the second unit. But of course if he's going to be intermittent it makes no sense to start him either. I really wish he would just quit like D' Antoni did. It's the best thing for all parties.

I read this on Twitter. I think it's a sign of what a good sport he is. Image of his new uniform below:

In Lin I trust. I love Nash, but he is not the same man he was in Phoenix. Great dude, but he needs to be okay with coming off the bench. Lin playing more minutes is best for the team.

This is the best news I've heard. Just boosted my confidence in Byron even though it's a no brainer.

Makes sense. And it's not like Lin is a scrub on offense. We could actually use someone who can get to the basket on a consistant basis thus opening up shots on the outside. Plus when we get X and Young backour bench will be even more bolstered. If Nash can stay somewhat healthy and can contribute ocassionally, he definitely could make the second unit a little better, help create scoring opurtunities for the guys. I like it.

It is really sad how refreshing it is. Antoni would not have done this.
