Dwight was a lost cause. He was a expiring contract we took a gamble on. Bynum turned into dust anyway so not all was lost.

We tried with Pau, but he got to a point of no salvation. And with Kobe as his confidant, we weren't just going to hand Pau for 2nd Rounder.

All the Rondo talk has just been pure speculation made by websites to get hits. We may be interested in him, but I'm sure at a certain price and no more. I wouldn't be mad if we walked out of free agency with Carroll and Rondo to be honest. Is it a long shot? Sure, but it could happen.

Yeah Mitch has already quelled any rumor that we're going to go out and spend big time on a PG in free agency. Something to the effect of "we have a young man who was just on the All-Rookie Team" so spending will most likely be towards other needs first.

If we get Rondo it will be on OUR terms meaning cheap and in a back-up role to Clarkson. Otherwise we don't need him.

Besides any rumor that the Lakers wanted Rondo hasn't really come from the Lakers' end since half-way through the season (basically since he landed in Dallas). Most rumors have Rondo wanting to come here.

Yeah. And as was pointed out earlier in one of the threads, with Clarkson + #2 pick, Mitch's exact words regarding Rondo were, "Now we also have the pick, which takes a little bit of the pressure off to do something borderline this summer." I would be shocked to see Rondo here for anything more than the Room Exception and as a backup. I suppose if it was a two year deal with a team option on the second, I would not jump out a 10 story window. But that's probably the #2 Pick Afterglow still effecting my Laker mood. If the Ducks lose tomorrow and GS beats LBJ, I may be willing to go as high as 4 million on a deal with Rondo. :D But the fact remains, we have no need for him. I mean, we can't possibly be thinking of Kobe logging heavy minutes at the 3, right? Could he play there in a pinch? Sure, but him as our full time 3 would be pretty disastrous, especially with A Randle/Okafor frontcourt. Okafor, Randle and Kobe as our frontline would get decimated defensively.

Found this article interesting. I've never really thought about analytics in terms of the draft. There's definitely a few issues with projecting college players as NBA players using analytics. You can't project in a model someones work ethic once he's in the NBA and the huge increase in competition. Still a good read to get a slightly different perspective.

Pek isn't the only guy that will have an impact IMO. Shabazz played a lot of minutes at PF when he was able to play next to Lavine & Wiggins, not to mention Dieng played both PF & C. I think they'll have to look at how their pick fits with their young core more than how they fit with Pek.

I love the fact that we're atleast making it seem like Russell and Mudiay are options. Even if we know we're taking Towns or Okafor, it's good to make Philly sweat. You never know what may come of it.

If we're on the clock and Philly thinks we're taking Russell, do they offer us Noel or Embiid to move up 1 spot and get some security that they'll get their guy? Even if they won't give up 1 of those 2, maybe they're quicker to give up a package of lesser prospects and some of their five 2nd rounders. Say #37, #47, #58, Wroten, Covington or Sims. If we can pull off something like that and still draft the big we wanted at #2, that'd be quite the display of how to utilize the leverage that comes with a top pick. Of course we'd make the selection for them and trade it so there's no chance they pull a fast 1 and take Okafor/Towns.

The problem with that is we take Russell and then what? What if they decide they're fine with Okafor/Towns after all and we get stuck with Russell?

Nice. Justin Anderson and Delon Wright at the end of the 1st? Yes please.

I don't think Philly would do that to be honest. Pulling a stunt like that would definitely affect their ability to do deals in the future.

I like it. But I think Anderson will go before 27. We will likely need to trade up for him. I've seen some people speculate he'll go as high as 14-16.

What if they traded away Embiid and a pick to someone else and kept Okafor? I mean you're right but I'm just saying there's a ton of risk in a move like that. It's better if we just take who we want and leave nothing to chance.

Agreed, but we could move up to get him maybe. I really do like Wright late. He's got some problems, but I don't really get why he's going THAT late... Even though we're pretty set at PG/SG as far as young players go, he'd be a GREAT value grab that late in the 1st I think.

There would need to be a deal in place before we make the pick. It would be 1 of those picks that is announced like "there has been a trade, the Los Angeles Lakers select D'Angelo Russell on behalf of the 76ers".

Maybe but then they'd have to agree to the deal before we make the pick. If you were Hinkie would you do it? Would have the balls enough to call our bluff if we said we might take Russell?

Put yourself in Hinkie's shoes, do you blink first or do you dare them to take Russell?

Man, I hope we trade up or somehow land Anderson. I don't think he's going to be a star or anything, but he seems to be the purest 3 'n D guy in this year's draft. If he can be our Danny Green, that's a win. I'm pretty set on trade 34 and 27 to move up to the 20 range to get Anderson. Draft Okafor at #2. That would be my perfect draft. Add those two to Randle, Clarkson and Black. Talk about a nice young foundation.

Story is about a week old & may have been discussed on here, but according to Chad Ford: Orlando, NY, Detroit, Charlotte, & Sac are all considering moving their lottery picks. Of the 5 Orlando stands out the most to me as a potential trade partner for us. Some Mocks I've seen have them taking WCS & moving him to PF, some have them reaching for Kristaps, the overall theme seems to be finding a PF to pair with Vucevic. Unless you count Towns as a PF, Randle would seemingly be far & away the best PF prospect in this draft.

My question, if Orlando was interested in swapping #5 for Randle, would you take it? & if not, how much would they need to sweeten the deal?

They have quite a few talented young players I'd be interested in, but right away what stands out to me is securing a Sign & Trade for Tobias Harris. This way we don't have to bid against the open market & don't have to worry about the 72 hour waiting period to see if Orlando matches our offer. We could also ask for our 2018 top 5 protected 1st back. Is that enough or would you ask for more? I don't see any of their main core being on the table but possibly Fournier or Nicholson.

No. They also already have Aaron Gordon who can play PF as well in today's standards.
