Pavilions was having a sale on Campbells Chunky soup for like a buck fifty a can. Bought a ton of that. My wife and I can live off the Chunk for a couple weeks.
It'll happen. I actually see us and the rest of the western world doing the Italian "essential personnel leaving their house only" thing within the next week or so. If we do that, this thing will die out within a month. I think if this gets under control within the next two months, we'll finish the season. But if this pandemic stretches into June, then yeah. It's over.

Italy had their biggest single day jump in infections today. They are about a month ahead of us. No way this is going away in a month.

BREAKING: An elementary school student who received an autograph from Rudy Gobert in his game in Boston has tested positive for coronavirus, via NBC. It’s uncertain if the virus was transmitted during the exchange

That's not what people on Twitter in Italy are reporting.

"For the first time since this started, today the number of deaths is half what it was yesterday, and the number of recoveries double."

This site shows the most recent trends, but if you look at the stats from today, which haven't been entered, the deaths look to be down significantly.

We really need our leaders to just bite the bullet and do an Italy (and now Spain) type lockdown. If they do it now, it will be even more effective as we aren't as far along. Not sure why we wait.

Well the country is big and a lockdown like that would face legal challenges in the court system. Not saying we shouldn't, but its easier said than done.

i'm shocked ibaka didn't test positive (unless it was a false negative but considering every other raptor player tested negative i'd assume he really is negative)

guy guarded gobert for 30+ minutes and even kissed the ball after gobert made a FT

Not only that, but the financial blow from a prolonged lockdown would be devastating for small businesses. Poverty will eventually lead to deaths.

If the virus spreads at it's current rate though, the healthcare system will be overwhelmed and the fatality rate will skyrocket (ie Italy) not just from COVID-19 but from regular illnesses.

It's a difficult call either way.

There comes a point where a lockdown is simply not worth it and for America, we can't afford it. The cost-benefit is just not there. There will be casualties but this, as Tada stated, no president should ever be in such a position like this. On another note, wouldn't it be nice if robots were working 24/7 and we didn't have to rely on the masses of humans to do such things? AI technology can solve a lot of problems for the betterment of society. China claims they have a decreasing amount of cases but I'm skeptical about their claims. It's probably an attempt to force their workers to continue working so their economy doesn't plummet.

Every country should have cancelled ALL flights from China as the 1st cases appeared .

Most governments/countries ( and its populations) from Europe are dumb as f*** and irresponsible.

This is the typical " why should we deal with a pb as soon as it appeared when we can solve a much bigger pb months later" stupidity

" We have time , we have time ! " SMH

France (and probably UK) will get hit "harder" than Italy. People in France act like they don't give a f***. Government asks to stay at home and closes restaurants etc. and people gather to protest.

From what I understand, viruses like this don't just go away when it gets warmer.

They go away when enough people are exposed and get over it to where the virus just doesn't have as many opportunities to transmit to new, unaffected people who's bodies haven't developed a defense. If that's the case, and if most people that get exposed display no symptoms or mild symptoms, I don't see the point in declaring travel bans from state to state or worse. Concentrate on the old and people with compromised health and protect them specifically, and everyone else should just go about their regular day. You probably will catch it, but it'll probably feel like a bad flu or cold at worst, and once you get over it, you're over it.

    Please read this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/

Note how in the simulations where people practice social distancing, there are segments of the population that never get sick. In the simulation where there are no lockdowns or social distancing, there are points where essentially everyone is sick. That is when the medical infrastructure gets overburdened and this spirals out of control. Doctors have to chose who lives and who dies because there simply aren’t enough resources to treat everyone.

It is arrogant to think we are different than the multiple major countries that have already had to institute a significant lockdown of some sort. We’re not better than Italy, we’re just coincidentally late to the game. Now that the virus has entrenched itself in the population, we’re showing the exponential growth that is bound to hit us hard.

This is NOT a time to count our losses and have business as usual. We can avoid millions of deaths if we collectively stop downplaying this and respect the science. A lockdown is scientifically inevitable. The problem is that since it will have to be called from the government and it is such an extreme measure, it won’t happen until the magnitude of this slaps us in the face.

So please, don’t wait. Start social distancing yourself NOW. Do your part. There is no need to go out to the bar or movie theater right now. Try to avoid panic buying, but stock up on essentials and spend time with your family at home for now. If you’re skeptical, you don’t need to commit to this for an extended period of time ... do it for a week and by the end of next week it will be clear to you why we need to continue this for a while. We might even have reached the point where we’ll be mandated to lockdown.

And it’s not just about you. The more you go out, the more you statistically might become an incubator that will exponentially spread this elsewhere. To people who this might hit much harder than yourself. And if you’re selfish ... then sure, it is also about you. This isn’t just the flu. You don’t want to get sick. Recovery can take a month or more as opposed to a few days. Some of the cases being dismissed as “mild” are almost to the point of pneumonia, which really isn’t all that mild. There are reports of people under 30 in the ICU. Healthy people in their 40’s and 50’s are dying from this.

Yes there will be a hit to the economy. That sucks. But the hit to the economy will be worse when we have millions of hospitalizations and people dying and the entire thing escalates. If you’re worried about the bartender who won’t be able to pay his bills, write to your representatives. Tell them to get their balls out of the vices of their corporate funders. Internet providers and utilities should not be cutting off services right now. If we can flood the market with $1.5 trillion in a snap of our fingers to give a temporary boost to the stock market, then we can implement an emergency Universal Basic Income and put money directly in the hands of every American to ride through this storm.

I've never heard that info before, and if that's true, that changes my opinion on the whole matter. My understanding was that it wasn't that bad for most people that get it of you're under 60 and relatively healthy.
