Don't forget the Kings also "crowd sourced" their draft pick last year and had civilian analytics specialists chime in with their opinions. If I remember correctly based on the draft board shown in their war room Vonleh was up there, but they ended up choosing Sauce.

    Here it is:

They also debated Payton over Stauskas

To me, all this talk is an obvious smokescreen to maybe pry an asset out of Philly since they want Russell pretty bad. Like maybe we trade Russell and get Okafor and one of Philly's 20 second rounders. Then we use that second rounder along with our's and 27 to move up.

Or more simple: Trade down to #3 but have Philly give our pick back next season. We still get Okafor and we get our pick back in case we still suck next year.

Only to have Philly take Okafor at 2, with the ultimate mindf***, making us all assume they needed Russell since they already had Noel+Embiid. All the while Philly had a trade lined up with Phil to Swap Embiid for Mudiay. Bwhaahaha, Philly ends up with Okafor+Noel+Mudiay and we're stuck with Russell and our own 2016 pick back. I'm high on Russell so I wouldn't be devastated. But to miss out on either big would suck, especially being swindled by those tank-douches, Philly.

Look, the fact that you all are downplaying this talk of Russell and/or Porzingis is calming me to some extent. But my god, if we honestly pass up Okafor and end up with either of those two guys, it's time to burn the whole thing down.

I'm honestly not sure what I would do if we took Porzingis. Kid could be great at some point, but that would be a tough sell. I think I could convince myself that we saw greatness in Russell, Mudiay or even Winslow, but Porzingis would be hard for me to accept.

I'm going to have a tough time swallowing a pick that's not one of the two bigs, period. history says someone taken later is bound to be better, but we don't know that now. don't outsmart yourself. size still wins in this league. you found a Russell-esque player at 46 last year.

Been doing some NBA draft stuff and heard some interesting thoughts from a scout today on Mudiay. Said his floor is "so f***ing low."

    CJ Moore@CJMooreBR · 3h3 hours ago
Scout said he doesn't believe Mudiay is a Rose/Wall level athlete. Poor shooter. No true position. "Doesn't understand team concepts well."

We are taking a big. Most of this stuff is just filling up airtime, blogs, etc with speculation to try to keep things interesting. We will have Towns or Okafor next year.

I heard about 85-90% of people on another board; they were saying the same exact thing. I was warming up to him despite all my misgivings; I still am, but I'll have to keep an eye on him in workouts...

Exactly. I don't believe any of the talk. Mitch knows exactly what he's doing; he plays everything close to the vest; he all but said we were drafting a big on the Cowherd show I heard the other day...nothing more to it.

Yeah. I was keeping an open mind on him as well, but that is interesting.

We'll go over all of the numbers and nuances to Russell's game -- like his fantastic passing ability to go with his scoring -- in the coming weeks. For now, though, let this be a chance to get familiar with this wizard of the Buckeyes. Former Lakers assistant coach Eddie Jordan, who moved on to take over coaching duties at Rutgers, took the time to do just that. What Jordan found, he told media, kept him up at night in preparation, according to Jerry Carino of My Central Jersey:

"I watched him on tape. The more I watched him, the less sleep I got. He's calm. He sees everything. He's patient, he delivers, he reads the defense and he's got a real smooth game about himself. The kid's going to have a great future."

Never seen this quote about Russell from Jordan; this is cool.

I just don't get how that one scout saw all that, but so many others saw talent. Even playing in China most scouts are positive on the kid, most players are positive on the kid.

Sounds like smoke being blown about so that his stock drops to someone, don't know who yet.

I'm still high on him and think he is gonna be a great one. So much talk about his weaknesses, but he has a ton of strengths.

Agreed. Size doesn't grow on trees. I don't need Russell early when a) we have Clarkson and b) for everyone saying there's no talented guards after the first few, where are all the super talented bigs that are available late?

I'd rather have Okafor/Delon Wright than Russell/Dakari Johnson.
