Black and Davis don't have to be mutually exclusive. Tarik can give minutes at PF while Davis plays C. Randle/Black Okafor/Davis That's a really solid big man rotation capable of filling in bigger minutes whenever someone goes down AND they're all under 25 years old. Sign all of them long-term and in 2-3 years that might be the best big man rotation in the NBA.
^^ This is what I want to see. Keep Davis and Black and add them to Randle and Okafor. That's a ROCK solid big man rotation. Might even keep Kelly as he's cheap and provide different look as the stretch 4 at times. I love that young core. Go find a starting SF in FA, backup vet PG, and fill in whatever's left with draft picks, Ellington, maybe Brown and vet FA's. Done.

Id definitely be open to the idea of keepng black and resigning davis, but if I could pay an extra 2-3 million for Asik/Lopez/Koufos (if we dont land gasol/lma/love/etc.), I do that instead.
What if that 2-3 million could be used elsewhere though? We've got roughly 22 million to spend this summer. I'd have to think MOST of that will go to the SF spot for a guy like Carroll or maybe Tobias Harris or Danny Green. The rest needs to be split up into a backup PG and some big man depth. To me, this summer is a no brainer. Draft Okafor, trade the rest for future assets Sign Carroll or Danny Green for 10-12 million Sign Mo Williams for 5 million Sign Davis for 5 million We get depth, we get veteran leadership, and we get a ridiculously solid young group of players while STILL having cap space next summer to blow out an offer for Durant or someone else to step into the void of Kobe.
I feel like we can go a lil cheaper on a backup pg/c. What do yall think about going after millsap if we miss out on gasol/lma? I think millsap&randle as our Fs can give us a lot of flexibility and be able to create a lot of mismatches due to their skillsets.
I don't want to give him S18m when we need a starting SF. A lot of people expect him to stay put. He called the Hawks his "family" after the loss and sounded as though staying was his first choice.
Milsap is about to make a max contract or near it. I don't want to get involved in that when Randle can have a similar impact at PF. I'd rather get a SG/SF than a SF/PF in free agency this summer.
We have bigger holes to fill at SF that really need to be addressed if we are drafting one of the bigs.
SF is going to be our most pressing need if we get one of the bigs in the draft. It's been a GLARING weakness for us for a couple years now.
We're going to address the SF problem, LJ. We have all of our young assets and now we move on to the second phase of rebuilding. Actually, we'll be addressing 2 of our areas of need in this offseason. Center and SF. Don't worry about it. Mitch has got this... Now with Black, he's cheap, versatile, tough, and has some upside; additionally, he's young. He's a high character kid who works hard, understands his role and wants to get better...he fits right in to what we're building here. Keep him.
We are in an incredible position. Youth and talent everywhere, lots of choices to make. One that is easy is keeping Tarik.
Toklat, post more often. We're back baby. FUN to watch and root for again this coming season. No more Lakers'
"Boom Boom"? Has that been around? I like it. Fits. Especially after watching his 8 minute highlights video. Do not sleep on this guy as to what he can give us next several years. Hang on to him. Okafor, Randle, Black together certain situations against bigger, physical teams, makes us the "Bruise Brothers" up front and able to compete and dish it right back in spades. With the right match ups that can work, of course.
They're all gym rats, so I'd expect that to definitely happen. Maybe they'll wait till Randle is fully cleared. I know he can do 3-3, 4-4 now but maybe they'll hold off till he can go 5-5. Love having young workaholics. Not used to seeing several guys hanging around the gym not named Kobe. It's a good approach for these young men to have and bodes extremely well for this franchise going forward.
Seriously. When was the last time we had three youngsters in the gym working like this? I can't remember. I love it.
