Ford also discussed Kaminsky, Stanley Johnson, and Oubre. Yes, I understand these guys will be long gone by the time we pick again, but I still found some interesting tidbits.

He's better than Duncan coming out of college offensively. He might be as good as Al Jefferson offensively right now.

The beauty of Okafor is he'll produce right away. He'll be in line for a ROY award and probably average 13-14 pts 4-5 rebounds, 1-2 assists. I think he'll get his defense together as well. He'll be a net positive going into next season.

Fixed. Thank you. I type a lot from my phone. That's why some of my posts come out with a lot of errors.

Re: Oubre- Seems like a natural player, but maybe (and this will sound harsh) not the smartest kid. He's just now learning how to play defense and that made his offense regress.

He MIGHT be awesome or he might be JR Smith... Who wants to take the chance? Who has the patience to develop him? DE has him going 10 to Miami and I could see that.

I have questioned him a few times myself based on comments he has made. I don't think he's a lottery pick. Maybe late teens. To me, he's got Wesley Johnson written all over him. Looks great on paper, but I'm not sure if he will ever pull it all together. He really needs to land with a team that can develop him.

He'd be a good fit in Miami. I mentioned that to Elgin some pages back. Although, I think a better fit is Johnson. Safer pick, cheaper than Deng if he decides to opt out of his player option, and his shooting and defense would be a perfect for for next to Wade, Whiteside, and Bosh. He's a plug in play starter for that team.

If I'm a GM, Oubre is no higher than 20th on my board. As far as wings go, I'd take Booker and Dekker ahead of him. Depending on team needs, I may take RHJ over him. Don't see or understand the hype around this guy. Doesn't pass the eye test for me.

Johnson is a perfect pick for Miami. To me that's one of the most perfect player/need matches in the lottery. He can come in, start, and contribute out of the gates for the race to contention next year.
MJ could throw a wrench on that if he's given up on Lance, though.

I watched about 3/4 of KU's games this year. I'd pass on Oubre (at least until the late teens) and sleep very easily with that decision. If he lasts until later on in the first round and guys like Hollis-Jefferson and Anderson were gone, then I'd look at him.

Pretty much everyone has us with Okafor at #2, but the 27th pick is split up between Rashad Vaughn, Christian Wood, and Jarell Martin. Vaughn is interesting as a young wing prospect, but I can't see us going with another forward after already grabbing Okafor or Towns and potentially bringing in a big in free agency.

Exactly. Let's use an example. Kawhi Leonard. Had all the physical tools with a suspect jump shot, wasn't a great ball handler; heck, not even a good one. San Antonio asked their shooting coach if they could fix his shot, and he said he'd be able too; what do you know? He's defensive player of the year, his shot looks great, and his ball handling has improved tremendously.

Oubre needs a situation like that. The problem? There is just not many teams that can take a guy and develop him like a Spurs team nor does a team in the lottery have the patience to wait because they want results right away since their coming off of a poor season.

You throw Oubre in without developing him properly. You stunt his development, and you increased your odds of creating a bust. Instead, of taking the time and giving him an opportunity when he's ready.

At that point, after you've worked with him for 2 to 3 seasons, and he's still not translating or meeting expectations, the goal would be to make him serviceable.

You could always take another approach, too. Develop him, showcase him for a year, hope he becomes an All Star and trade him for Dwight Howard. :).

Yeah I saw this. I wouldn't be opposed to Vaughn, but I'm not excited by the pick either. All things equal of the three, I'd pick Jarell Martin. We need wing bodies now. We've got a pretty good feel for the SG spot. Clarkson takes pressure off of the PG spot. We have enough PFs to spare. We're about to draft our Center of the future.

We need SFs. I'd love to get a Nick Young replacement in the draft and sign a guy like Carroll. We draft a guy who can take Nick's place eventually in a year or two, but we need to shore up production at the three. We need a guy who will consistently space the floor and play good defense.

I didn't get to see a lot of Martin and always thought of him as more of a four. I didn't realize he was being projected as a three as well. He's definitely athletic and if he can play the 3 I would be good with that pick if some of the other guys are off the board.

I believe he's projected as a PF/SF kind of like Rudy Gay or Jeff Green... Better than the other two though who are very clearly a SG or a PF. We don't need any more of those!

Out of those, Martin would be my choice. Seen a lot of different comparisons...everything from Thad Young to Trevor Booker to Tobias Harris. I think he's somewhere between a Booker and a Jeff Green. He hasn't been playing basketball for very long (5-6 years) and he played in a very weak HS division, so that's a little alarming just the level of teaching that would be required.

That'd be why I take him at that point though. A ton of talent, room for growth, and he'll need a season or two of marinating before he can be a solid contributor. Just long enough for Nick Young to either expire or be shown the door.
