Just saw this: Treinen's ERA in odd years: 3.86, 3.93, 4.91 Treinen's ERA in even years: 2.49, 2.28 0.78 Hope it bodes true lol Turned out we beat the Angels in terms of the offer for Cole: In terms of Bumgarner, I think people are betting big on his past history and playoff intangibles as his stats (particularly away from home) are quite bad. Some other superstar 3B is also rumored to be on the market (and Lindor):
Teams are going to throw away a lot of money. I just saw the Rendon going to the Angels. I like that guy but damn Arenado is another big chip but I can't see him being dealt without giving up the farm too. Dodgers need pitching. As far as Madbum I think you bet on the guy cause he proved it. I don't want to overpay anyone. Giving these guys these long term giant deals bit too many teams in the a**. I want Dodgers to be aggressive but smart.
I think that's been a sticking point for free agents (especially from Scott Boras, who wants to maximize deals) and our management, who wants to analyze everything and try to get undervalued contracts on players. We haven't signed a Boras client since the Ned Coletti days. This might be very problematic for a while as Bellinger and Seager have Boras. If reports are to be believed that they thought Rendon wouldn't come to LA, that's a horrible look. They should've went after him hard. As for Bumgarner, I'm fine with going for him, but it's really sad that we've made little effort to get Ryu back: Earlier this week, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register and other reporters that he has discussed a new deal for Hyun-Jin Ryu with agent Scott Boras. For now, though, Ryu’s under the impression his longtime club isn’t particularly interested in bringing him back. “If the Dodgers wanted to re-sign me, they would have told my agent,” the left-hander said (via Yonhap News Agency). “I haven’t heard from him yet, and honestly, I don’t have much to tell you right now.”
Not sure why the red sox would do that deal but that's a win for the Dodgers. However, as long as Kershaw is on this team, they wont win jack s***. He is a jinx and the biggest choking in sports history, not just baseball. In ALL of sports history.
It's because we would eat David Price's 90 million dollars left on his contract. I think the prospects offered would be higher, but it shouldn't have to involve high end prospects. As for Kershaw, can't say I disagree with you, but if the Astros cheating allegations are true (and there are videos that suggest that they were cheating when he pitched aganist them in the World Series), then he's been a bit hard done by.
Kershaw has cost the Dodgers for the last 5 years. He has choked in literally every big game he has pitched for the Dodgers. Cardinals blown game in 2014, Cubs, Astros, Red Sox, every important game he has choked. Astros arent the only team he has sucked against when it matters the most.
It has a domino effect when you lose an important game and you let down an entire city. I think once you win a title, you can relax somewhat because you always have the goodwill from that championship to fall back on. But whether it's the Red Sox, the Cubs, the Bills, the Vikings... you always feel something bad will happen and that must be difficult to overcome. So yes, even if they were cheating against Kershaw for only one series, it still would have an effect on his confidence. Our own Lakers were cursed for almost two decades until we beat the C Bags in 1985... I'm sure West and Baylor felt no matter what they did they were doomed. For the Dodgers it's been 32 years. F*ck the Astros for this... I still hate Belichick for Spy Gate.
Dodgers are owed two Championships. If it is proven they cheated to win then they should be stripped of their WS Titles, fined playoff pay (at the least) and suspensions handed down. This reminds me when Kemp lost the MVP to Braun who was suspended for doping. I know MLB won't do it and because they won't baseball is seriously tainted for me.
Stan Kasten was the president of the Braves when they were winning the division every year for like 15 years straight. They barely eeked out one ring to show for it. Sucks that Dodgers are stuck in the same boat under this guy's leadership
So we signed Alex Woods. I was reading that he is doing off season work with our new pitching coordinator who is applying analytics to his new training. Here's hoping he can recapture some of that one magical year he had.
Initial thoughts: what a joke of a punishment, every team should've cheated then. Their World Series should've been stripped. Disgusting. EDIT: confirmed to cheat in the playoffs:
Donaldson to the Twins. We "dodged" a bullet on that one. Also Cora fired by the Sox. So both cheating managers lose their jobs but the teams get to keep their championships. Disgusting.
How they keep the Championship? WTF. That should be stripped. Really, the Dodgers should be made the Champions. Those penalties are slaps on the wrist. No player suspensions. No stripping of the ring just a "yea, they cheated but that's what happens." F This.
