I don't think Chicago would do that. Real GM came out with a report saying the Lakers were going to go after Butler in restricted free agency. That goes against what they've normally done historically; additionally, the report came from an insider who's been on a roll with breaking news. I believed the report at the time. I'm not so sure if I do now that I think about it. Outside of that report, Woj, Larry Coon, and every other report I've read as said the Bulls will match any offer which will require the max for Jimmy. I don't think we'll go in the direction of pursuing him nor anybody else in restricted free agency. We go after max-free agents and if they rebuff, we'll look for the value options.
Agreed. The Lakers view him as an elite prospect and they've been blown away by this guy's professionalism and talent. They're not moving him unless they're getting back a bona fide star.

My ideal scenario is basically exactly what it was when I was a pie in the sky optimist- 1. Draft Okafor or Towns (probably going to be Okafor) 2. Trade one of the later picks, with the other one pick George De Paula 3. Assuming all RFAs are off the table- Sign DeMarre Carroll to 4/50 million. 4. Sign Ed Davis for 4/24.4 million. 5. Sign Mo Williams for 3/15 million. 6. If you want, sign Ellington for the BAE- 2/3.422 million. Jordan Clarkson/Mo Williams/George De Paula Kobe Bryant/Wayne Ellington/Jabari Brown DeMarre Carroll/Nick Young Julius Randle/Tarik Black/Ryan Kelly Jahlil Okafor/Ed Davis If you can get Carroll at something like 4/40 million instead, then instead of signing Ed Davis use the extra 2.5 million on Omer Asik over Ed Davis. He's a little older, a lot bigger, and a better rim protector. I think this team has a good balance to it. It's still a year or two away from really competing at the highest level, but it's got some good veteran leadership and great youth. I'd love to watch this team develop. Not to mention the next summer Kobe comes off the books and you have two max contract slots available.
^I would be on board in signing Mo Williams... He'd be a great back-up and mentor to Clarkson. He can still stroke the rock from the perimeter and I would think 24 will trust him. Williams isn't a locker room lawyer either. Outside shooting seems to be covered with him and Ellington. Kelly can be the stretch 4. Black and Davis are good rotational players too.
I'd throw a cheap 3 year deal at SF KJ McDaniels. Was putting up nice numbers in Philly until he got traded mid-season to Houston, who had already established their pecking order by then. Absolute freak athletically, and a defensive stalwart. Helps build more young, talented pieces to go with Durant in 2016 (I hope).
Id love to try to pull off a trade and package any of remaining picks, swaggy/kelly/brown to try to get our young cheap SG/SF of the future on top of signing Leonard/Butler/Middleton.
Yeah, the lack of talk about Monta on here is a bit confusing to me. Obviously the major hole we need to fill is SF, but we're not far away from having some huge shoes to fill at SG. But before we even cross that bridge, he's also a great fit for this season. He can put his numbers up from either Guard spot so he shouldn't have a negative impact on Clarkson's development the way a Dragic or Rondo might. I assume we'll see a lot of Kobe in facilitator mode again this season, having a scoring threat like Monta (& possibly Okafor/Towns) should take some of the pressure off of Kobe to do more than he should. Same with resting. Kobe (along with us) won't have to worry about getting destroyed anytime he sits a back to back or to heal minor injuries. Monta & Clark are a formidable starting backcourt. Back to the post-Kobe era, you have the advantage of locking in a 2nd starting guard still in his prime right now before the cap goes crazy. The signing makes sense on so many levels. I don't know what it is, I just don't see the Bucks matching a max offer for Middleton. Maybe I'm brainwashed to think small market teams will always be too cheap to make moves like that. I know they saw a huge spike in ratings & attendance since becoming a playoff team. I know they're owned by hedge fund owners with deep pockets. I just can't picture them maxing a player that isn't your prototype max player. He was their best player since Jabari went down including in the playoffs. But in those playoffs he averaged 15 PPG on some terrible shooting %'s by his standards. I'm definitely not arguing against him being worth it, I just don't think they'll pay it no matter how much they posture. I'm basing my Biyombo estimate on the most recent article I could find that talked about his value in FA: They could be way off but I'm hoping they're not & we're the ones that steal him. Mitch is definitely 1 of, if not the best at finding great values so I'm optimistic. Savory makes a good point. Harris definitely appears the most available of the restricted SF's. He wants the Knicks but I don't think they want him enough to make an offer Orlando won't match unless they strike out on a host of other FA's first, so the opportunity to swoop in & sign him early could be there. If push came to shove, I think I'd make him an offer, but it wouldn't be the max. We make him an offer because he still has a ton of room at improve at only 22. As of today, I don't think he's a big enough upgrade from Young to justify the big contract, but he's not near his prime yet so that's a gamble worth taking. Harris marks the cutoff for me though, I wouldn't sign any of the next tier seeking big contracts like Carroll or Danny Green. At 28 & 27 respectively, they are what they're going to be, & what they are certainly isn't worth 8 figures per year. Jeff Green would be interesting but I don't think he goes anywhere. At this point I'd start exploring alternatives like trades where teams will give up assets to dump a contract like we did with Lin. It looks like a few teams will be looking to blow it up, guys like Batum or T. Ross might be available for nothing. After that I try to sign value guys like Wes Matthews, Dunleavy(very similar numbers to Carroll & Green without the defense), Gerald Green(Again similar numbers, looks like his value is slipping).

I'd love to be wrong about guys like Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Middleton, etc but I just don't see any of their teams letting them walk. I guess we could try some kind of contract that makes it tough on them to match, but if Carroll's knee is fine then I think he should be our first target. I am sold on him. I think he fits a lot of things we are trying to do and instantly improves our defense.
People have him at 15 million a year? Damn. If 15 million is what it takes to get him... I'm still willing to pay knowing the cap goes up next summer but it definitely changes the plans dramatically.
