It's that the standards are raised and we are in win now mode... we are in win to keep AD mode.

If we were 15-2 with the kids... everyone would be over the moon... because it's not expected... we'd also have more flexibility, assets, and draft picks to build the future.

We now have no margin for error. We must win this year or next year to make the trade worthwhile. This winning is expected, albeit not 15-2

So it's not that we don't appreciate what this team has accomplished... it's been great to win again... it's that the timeframe is accelerated and although this team is a clear playoff team... it's not yet clear that it's a title winning team.

The things I want us to tweak is for that level of success. If it were the kids... I'd have no complaints because a strong playoff run would be enough.

 

You sure do Lakers amazing return to relevance fandom a weird way. Angst at all times. Stop and smell the purple and gold pom poms.

I mean this is astonishing. 15-2 out of the gate, favored as one of a couple teams to win a title and it gets this.

So if all the little things and big things and injuries and luck don't align for the Lakers to win the ring in the end this season are you going to hate yourself for having wasted all that time watching these games and this team play?

 

We could be 12-5 and playing more consistently and I'd just think we were like Golden State coasting until the playoffs.

It's not about the record, although that is certainly nice... it's about how you get there.

We give up 20 points one quarter... 40 the next... our three point shooters aren't given enough burn... our offense is one dimensional and top heavy...
It's not about the record so much as reproducing the results. It's basically give the ball to LBJ and if he's brilliant we will win.

Not a terrible plan by the way, but I'd feel better if the team was winning more easily, blowing out these poor teams in preparation for the tough teams.

Is it possible that we are only playing down to their level and that we will rise and destroy Milwaukee and Denver? Sure.

If we beat those teams in a similar fashion then I can't really complain... but when you are shaky against weak teams it makes you nervous about the better teams. I really don't get why people are offended if you don't think everything is perfect... that's usually what separates great teams from good teams... that attention to detail.

As I conceded earlier... our record and point differential are in line with some of the great teams... so perhaps I'm being too hard... looking at the past with rose colored glasses. But other than LBJ... this team is very limited offensively. Maybe it's because I grew up watching West, Goodrich, Chamberlain... Wooden's UCLA teams with Walton... then Showtime... then Shaq and Kobe... then Kobe and Pau... that I know what good offense looks like, and I've never seen my team win with only defense. I've seen the Bulls, Pistons, Knicks grind it out... but not really seen a Lakers team win ugly every game. Maybe this is totally normal and my offense oriented bias is showing.

The test will soon come in December. If we grind those wins out too... I won't have much to complain about as long as we take the season series from the Clippers.

 

And who of "The Kids" besides Brandon Ingram are you just pining away for to have back? Lonzo Ball and that circus and his injuries and broken offense, or Josh hasn't been a stud since 2nd Summer League Hart? Wagner? Whoever? If they were all here the team sure as hell would not be doing this.You see what we have possible immediately this season and building on that going forward and you're still singling the blues about Brandon Ingram wondering if we did the right thing or not. Good lord.

Jeez, you're projecting other conversations I've said about admiring the kids onto to what I said tonight.

If we had gone with two elites and the kids... or LBJ and the kids... the time for us to succeed would be less urgent because we'd have more young assets and flexibility and draft picks.

Instead we cleared out everything for a win now gamble. So far the gamble seems to have paid off nicely.

My point is that with the kids you can win gradually... Make the playoffs this year... make the conference finals in two years... win a title in four or five years.

When you go all in for one superstar and LBJ has a two year window... you can't really build slowly... you must win now to secure ADs services next year and to secure another agent when LBJ leaves.

I love the kids and I watch the Pelicans games with great interest... but I'm still rooting for the Lakers as always. Against anyone else... sure I'd root for the Pelicans or the Wizards because a lot of our guys are there.

 

Oh KH. Good. I liked him a lot. I sure am having fun though watching Laker games again expecting to win them.

 

You can build around Anthony Davis and Lebron is not falling off a cliff any time soon. He knows how to play the game and has been adjusting and quality vets will come for less and our FO who are dynamite with spotting talent aren't going anywhere.

I think LBJ has defied expectations and I am much more optimistic he can play a couple more years as opposed to one year or declining this year.

AD is an amazing defensive player, but limited offensively though efficient at simple moves... but I'm not convinced he will lead us anywhere without someone like Doncic or Harden to replace LBJ.

It's clearer than ever to me why the Pelicans didn't win consistently with him as the best player.

He's more of a Bosh than an LBJ or Wade so far. I hope he proves me wrong... but he's more like a super Pau or Bosh so far... than a Shaq or Hakeem.

 

i think scout teams have proven themselves, they are still finding useful n potentially high lvl players late in the rds, like tucker, heck even that norvell fella might be of some use soon
