So, let me get this straight... they say that:

    - Warriors, Huston, Clippers (in some order)
    - several of those small market teams: Utah, Portland, Denver
    - us

So the prediction is we gonna finish 6 - 8? OK. Not biased at all.

i mean, sure, continuity is on por/den side, so they may win a lot in the regular season, but every other team is incorporating a major piece or more. houston doesn't even really have a system per se, so that won't affect them, but lac/utah/gsw all have new players who will be playing huge roles, too.

so...could we finish 6th? i suppose. we could also finish 1st. i just find the lack of uncertainty about literally any other WC team to be rather funny.

It is very uncertain where each team ends up.

But in times of uncertainty, I put my money on talent. No matter what the NBA does, at the end of the day talent trumps chemistry. That's why star players dominate the fortunes of a franchise.

Kobe and Shaq hated each other during their prime days...and still destroyed every team.

Its straight foolish to have the Lakers below tthe top 3 (at this point in the season) knowing they arguably have the most talent in the NBA.

    two things going on here...

    1. the anti-Lakers narrative is as strong as it has ever been; the media is desperately trying to downplay the potential of this roster and simultaneously trying to hype almost every other team, especially in the stacked West. the only thing left to do is prove them wrong.

    2. obviously we want to win as many games as possible while remaining healthy, that is, we won't be chasing 70 wins at the expense/risk of injury... we can win a playoff series against any team out there, so our seed really doesn't matter; of course we want to be the #1 seed, or at least a top 3 seed, as we could avoid playing a tougher team early on, but im not exactly going out on a limb either by saying that pretty much any team we would face in the WC could be a tough series.

essentially, they're gonna hate on us no matter how we do -- we're damned if we do, and damned if we don't... for example, if there is a big win-gap between us and the 4th seed, and we can afford to rest everyone without jeopardizing that position/seed, then it may behoove us to take the 3 spot and head into may/june with a full squad; if, however, we are really close to the #1 or #2 seed, then we may want to go harder to lock in home court advantage.

just a few thoughts on the topic... excited to see how the more established teams like portland, denver, and utah respond to the influx of talent/shift of power to la la land... but, yea, we can certainly drop to the 6th seed -- getting back to a previous point made -- but that's a very bold prediction imo, much bolder than picking us to be #1.

yeah, this was kind of my point, too. worst case scenarios involving "gelling" and "load management" are only being applied to us. and if those things go poorly, we can finish low in the standings. but the clippers have a guy who had to sit 20 games just for rest last year and another one coming off surgery on both shoulders. not to mention they'll have to figure out a new system after substantial roster turnover. but everyone has them finishing first nevertheless.

    ok.

right. they're assuming lebron/AD miss 15+ games and damian lillard and james harden continue to play like, all the games. maybe it happens, but the likelihood projections are what's laughable.

At this rate, he’s only getting minimum offers next year so he may be back for the 2020 season (assuming there isn’t another season ending injury)

I just thought of that a bit ago and didn't immediately puke, that's how bad losing Cousins is.
