Well he's raw for sure, but damn he's also skilled already and he's coordinated as mentioned. Going to be a hell of an athlete with skills to boot and having the trail blazed by his brother won't suck either. The brother will help speed him along with what he's learned I would think.

Did you watch the G-League footage all the way through and still felt squirrelly about him?

    Mavs aren’t dumb. That’s all I’m sayin

Seems inexplicable to let a talent like that go at such a small dollar figure. How can it make sense for a team that desperately needs talent?

So I guess I would just recommend tempering your enthusiasm about his potential.

It’s all just a move for Giannis.

yeah, the mavs took a long look at him and let him walk. that can't mean nothing. he is super raw, though, so who knows? could be a really slow developer.

The things I liked about him .... what do other people see? I do understand the Mavs' angle. Just am looking at his physical attributes now (how old is he by the way?) and the rough skills he already has. Can put the ball on the floor some, footwork some, spin moves some, not bad form on his shot or J, left hand some .... and he's coordinated. Plus has his big brother to help with his progression.

At the end of the day, separate from Giannis, he's young and uniquely athletic. He's a perfect 2-way candidate. Keep him around, let him work with our development guys, and if he shows promise you can try to get him on a Jemerrio Jones contract at the end of the year (assuming we don't get Iggy). If he doesn't develop, you move on. It's a no risk move.

Looking at their cap sheet, they had a max money slot for Giannis to slide into along with Zinger and Luka.

So yeah, maybe the Mavs got a good read on Giannis not leaving the Bucks for Dallas at least.

Btw, we claimed Kostas off waivers and made him a 2way.. I'm not sure what Toronto was going to do with him (they have 3.5m of the non-tax payer MLE remaining), but dude stands to get a larger bag if he's not a 2way player. Would Giannis look at our claim of his bro as a favorable venture, if we robbed dude of a bigger bag? Things that make you go hmmm...

Could be they liked someone else more. I tend to think they used Kostas the same way we plan to as a door to Giannis and they figured out Giannis wasn't interested so they moved on. He also may have not shown much growth in his time there so they moved on. There's precedent for slow developers so maybe we give him a shot and something clicks that wasn't clicking with the Mavs. Maybe Handy shows his worth by turning this kid into an NBA player, who knows. Whiteside comes to mind immediately as a slow learner though.

What're you saying? Because Thanasis didn't develop into anything at 27, Kostas at 21 can't?

Forums make me pull out the hair I dont have sometimes along with people on twitter saying stuff for attention.
I'm 30 and already feeling grumpy old when on the internet.

Not what he was saying anyway. Kostas has upside but brother at 27 most likely not.

yeah i'm not expecting much...Bonga at age 19 in the g league has shown more promise than Kostas at age 21 in the g league, so take that for what it's worth.

Can Kostas get better? Sure. But he's not an NBA player right now. If we can develop him, maybe he turns into a nice role player, but that's it.

Latest Laker: Kostas Antetokounmpo's Two-Way Potential

    by Joey Ramirez
    Digital Reporter
    Posted: Jul 26, 2019
He may have a famous last name, but Kostas Antetokounmpo is his own man and brings his own skill set to the Lakers, who signed him to a two-way contract on Monday.

The younger brother of reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kostas joins the Lakers after playing one season for the Texas Legends — the G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks.

Antetokounmpo was productive on both ends as a rookie, averaging 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks, while shooting 52.5 percent from the field. He also made two appearances with the Mavs.

A 6-foot-10, 200-pound big man, Kostas may have a thin frame, but he’s at his best when showing off his traditional big man skills.

He’s an effective pick-and-roll big, who has good pace and feel when rolling to the basket, as well as the athleticism and length to finish plays off with a bang. He ranked among the G League’s 71st percentile among P&R screeners, averaging 1.23 points per possession. click here to read more.

Says he's his own man then proceeds to throw Giannis and Antetokounmpo out there all over the place. Alright Ramirez. I see you.

Couldn't make the national team. I really hope kid has potential and isn't just Giannis's bro. But this potential #2021GiannisPlan is a lame one and I just can't see it coming to fruition. Nothing about the way Giannis moves indicates he is game to leave to join a star. So far everything he says lines up with him wanting stars to come to him for a team-up.

If you count out those cLipper lame brains, it's really just Jrue, Beal, DeRozan, Gobert, Drummond and Blake as potential gets in the class of '21.

I'm upset about Boogz, but even if dude was healthy, our frontline depth is sad. So as raw as dude is, we need guys that will prevent Bron & AD from playing too many high usage minutes during the regular season. He's on a 2way deal, but kid needs to shake this raw tag and get raw with 2 a days to become the real deal. Otherwise, he's just Giannis's brother.
