I think this is a pretty obvious signing, and was surely addressed somewhere else, but I could see this young man needing his own thread.

Mac brings up some good points here that Giannis will have a window into how the Lakers do business, and it's a smart, low risk move.

    Yeah, let the hype commence...

One thing to keep in mind...a 2way player can only run with the pro team for 45 days before they expire into G-League fodder (where another team can scoop him up or he can remain with the South Bay Lakers and we retain his rights like Caruso) or stay with the pro team through an end of season deal (like JJ did last year) with our final roster spot.

Decisions decisions...but one thing is for sure, Phil better get Handsy with oh boy and unleash the freak in him.

Limited number of games, but I'm pretty sure he gets unlimited time in the practice facility and can put in hours with the grown-up squad no problem in his spare time.

This is very, very obviously a move to at least gauge interest with Giannis. Just like we used KCP, we'll use Kostas as an open communication with Giannis without technically tampering. He'll get to see the training facility, the "family" vibe from the inside as opposed to what the media says about us, and of course what LeBron and Davis up close together. See if it's a good fit. And hey maybe it's not. Giannis and Davis do tend to overlap in their abilities. I think both are at their best at the PF spot. If you still have LeBron at that point, someone (Davis) is going to have to play Center. Things could get hinky.

But in the end, this is just a smart move. Whether Giannis comes or not, making yourself an attractive destination is still just good business. Everyone mocked the Clippers for literally stalking Kawhi for a full season and yet here we are. So here we are mocking our own franchise for doing similar things when we've had a much longer history of success. We should be applauding them for taking the chance. It's not like we'll be counting on a wing and a prayer to be competitive. We're going to be a REALLY good team with or without Giannis.

We're "shadowing", not stalking. Nobody is going to away games asking for autographs like little starry eyed children.

    That's different, right?

Maybe a guy like Handy can impact him with his skills progression even more than Kidd did his brother. And Jason will be there imparting whatever he see's as well.

I wonder if Woj will say Toronto was scrambling to get Kostas?

Oh hell yeah! He's only going to get better. Has a much sweeter J than Melo Ball and certainly Lonzo and can put the ball on the floor. That was HS I take it? Like at least a year ago, probably 2 years?

We just picked up the equivalent of a high 1st rounder. Yeah that was impressive above and almost 3 years ago. This kid is going to be a beast like his brother and look how quick with the feat, his ups and his coordination and handles already. Here's this year's footage with the Mavs. Phil Handy meet Kostos.

The sky's the limit for him IMO after watching him in these clips and seeing how his brother developed physically and skill wise. We should be able to use him this year I would bet if he has put on a little more muscle and gotten stronger over the summer.

A "souped up" BI? :giggle:  At same age, physically? He reminds me of BI a bit of course with the length and slenderness. Except this kid won't have trouble maturing into a more muscular frame like his brother. And he's faster and jumps higher than BI. Gotta love great athletes.

    let's be real here

If he was that great and showing a certain amount of promise, the Mavs don't let him go.

    so there's that.
