You could sign THT to the 2nd 2way slot and have 2 roster spots open up. Myabe Rich/Klutch wants THT to get more of a bag tho, as if that Kcp contract wasn't enough. If there was a Klutch tax that absolutely needed to be paid, it should have been the AD trade kicker allowing AD to get near 30% max this season and in 6 months lock him up with that 30% max number in an extension (taking him up till he's 35% max eligible) to bypass the headaches/anxiety/rigmorale of him opting out next summer.
"Anything less than a championship is not a success." F*** I love that quote from our GM. That's exactly the mentality we should have when we have LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Rob did a great job filling out the roster and hopefully these guys can get some cohesion going. The thing with teams that are built ground up like this is they usually take a year to get into a rhythm together. Luckily for us, just about every team is under those same rules. Except Utah, Portland, and Denver. Those three should be Top 3 seeds in the West hopefully along with us (with us on top).
AD press conference tomorrow but it seems the FO (or at least Pelinka) is ready to end the radio silence and start speaking to the media. I like his answers here. "Anything less than a championship is not a success." Championship or bust. That's always been our motto and now we actually have a team that can contend again.
Besides the whole trade talk, I got from this that they see KCP as the back up 3. Cook/Rondo/Caruso Green/Bradley/Daniels Lebron/KCP Davis/Kuzma/Dudley McGee/Cousins
Good catch. That does seem to be his logic right now. I'd still be surprised if Bradley isn't starting for defensive purposes. Bradley isn't the shooter Cook is, but he'll do fine.
Is Magic scheduled back on anywhere same day? If so it definitely needs to be behind Kuz who should be first there too unless he's on the floor for the 4 spot.
So Griff preferred a trade days before draft night if it involved 2019 picks so they can assess those picks before picking them, yet traded the 4th pick hours before the draft started and not really having any official predraft workouts with Braxton Hayes in particular... #Leverage And here is what I don't get...that salary dump to the Wiz was always there. Wiz didn't have any cap space, they had trade exceptions to take in Moe and Bonga and could always take JJ into a vet min exception slot, so that deal wasnt necessary unless LA bagged a max guy and needed whatever available cap was necessary to max that player out or to open up more roster spots since they valued Dudz, Daniels and Cook more (although we do technically have 2 roster spots still). In fact, if not using the #4 signed and aggregated route was never an issue with the timeline, why not just take AD into space and try to save as many assets as possible? Or just leak that the trade involved Bonga/Moe/JJ/'22 2nd from the jump? Why allow the media to even run with the "scramble" narrative making our FO look weaker than it is? #finesse Which brings us to this... #2021Plan hahahaha
And I still am... Using our cap space (which took us 2 years to accumulate) was the best way to do it. We used that asset to sign Green, Kcp and Mcgee. 2 years used to gain that asset and it's wasted imo. We used future picks/swaps, 2 #2s (Zo, BI), #4 and another 1st rounder in Hart towards AD and without securing a max guy, we literally threw away 4 other assets to give a net 2.2m towards the remaining free agents after the Kabye incident. Getting AD is amazing and I don't want that to get twisted but we did give up roughly 6 years of gained assets for him and that space and we just got him. Not to mention AD leveraged like crazy to get to us and yet we paid a premium for him. Meanwhile those f****s across the hall sold their souls, but still gained 2 stars and brought back nearly all their core from last year. I'm not cool with needlessly throwing away assets. And since we're bare at the moment, use cap to refresh some of our assets. Also bringing back a salary dump means that at some point that player had/has value (see BroLo). If we played the Russ/Cp3 sweepstakes with our cap we could have taken in James Johnson (perfect back up for Bron who would be terrifyingly scrappy next to Av and Boogie), we bring back a pick or two and we still have money to bring in Green or retain Kcp and Mcgee. There were alot of wasted opportunities and assets for my liking this summer. I love AD but now we've exhausted our potential assets outside of Kuz and our 2020 1st rounder (Nawlins controls our draft capital from '21 till '25) and we've exhausted our cap space for the short term. Imo good but not great.
Hindsight is 20/20. Any comments on how the Danny Green situation was handled? I believe you were criticizing Rob for overpaying Danny Green when there were only 2 potential suitors, but in reality we had him secured on July 1st.
Alright that's a cool story, which Rob is good at telling. Then if thats the case why dump assets like Moe/Bonga/Jj/future 2nd for Green who is valued @15m per by us (12m per by Dallas)? Folks think they're invaluable in the grand scale of things...I beg to differ. It was fine to renounce Jules and Zu/TB's capholds due to the max slot potential of a rich 2019 free agency class. I was good with if a max guy occupied that space. Instead nearly 85% of that slot went to Green/Kcp/McGee. I'm sorry that's not good enough. These young boys can bring back at least a future 2nd instead of being dumped into space for a max guy that wasn't even a lock to come here. How bout this. Lock up a max guy....then dump salary to salary match AD. If we strike out on max guy, keep our assets and partially take AD into our space. Those Wiz tpes weren't set to expire anytime soon. So wait to see if the max guy's in the bag, before we attempt to salary match... How bout that? Then there's the contracts we did give out. We got McGee's early bird if he takes the vet min again. It would have been amazing to negotiate that with him after a pneumonia-bouted season and take care of him next summer. It would have been great to talk down Kcp into the room exception at the worst. Cook into a guaranteed 2 year vet min (which still gets him his guaranteed 4m in his current deal). Get Boogie into that vet min slot as well since his 3.5m isn't too far off from it. That's great negotiating imo. Instead these guys bled into our cap space. But still Green could have been had, Miami would be forced to dump Olynk or Meyers into our space and we gain an asset out of it. I think that's what some of y'all are missing here. Green could have been had regardless. It's the remaining cap space that we didn't utilize effectively imo. Instead we got Kcp's no trade clause which will be difficult to move seeing how he's one player opt out away from full bird rights with us next summer. I actually like Kcp...but at the number and type of trade deterred contract we gave him.
