So what I believe this might be is the Lakers using the rest of the cap space on Javale and Boogie instead of the Room Exception. LeBron- 37.4 Green- 14.8 Ball- 8.7 Pope- 7.8 Ingram- 7.3 #4- 7.1 Deng- 5 McGee- 4 Boogie- 3.5 Cook- 2.8 Wagner- 2.1 Kuzma- 2 Hart- 1.9 Bonga- 1.4 Jones- 1.4 Horton-Tucker- 0.9 That basically maxes them out, gives them just one minimum add in there before the salary cap. Edit- Never mind I forgot about Caruso's cap hold. We'd probably have to waive our rights to him and add him back at the minimum at this point and then we'd be capped out.
Yeah, it'll be interesting if AD is still willing to waive his $4mil just to add another bench player..
So it seems like aside from Boogie, everyone else has 2 year deals without any options or partial guarantees on year 2. At least from what we know now. Does anyone know what options that leaves us with next year? I’m guessing functionally we’ll have no actual cap space, but does that open us up to access the full $9 million MLE? If so, is that full MLE restricted to just a year or two, or could it be used for like a 4 year/$4 million offer? Also, could it be split up or does it have to all be used on one player?
Summer 2019 Primer: We're officially capped out and have 14 out of a max 15 on the roster + 1 out of 2 max 2way player filled. We can now only grab 2 more guys. With AB announced as a 2yr 9.7m deal, he took our entire room exception (ie room exception can only max out as 2yr deals). Interesting thing about all our 2 yr deals is that only Green is confirmed as a fully guaranteed deal with no options. It has yet to be seen if Rondo and Caruso's 2nd years have options on them. Cook's 2nd year is a non-guaranteed deal, while Kcp, McGee and AB all have player options in their 2nd year. If they all opt out and we waive Cook, we can potentially open up about 10m in cap space next summer. That would mean we would have the room exception again (~5.5m) and not the non-tax payer MLE (~10m). Lastly, since AB is taking our entire room exception this summer, that means either Boogie, Cook or Caruso signed a vet min deal instead of what was initially reported. Boogie was said to be average min signing initially but that changed to 3.5m with the use of cap space. So my guess is that Cook is a vet min signing where his 2yr 6m reported deal has a non-guaranteed or partial guaranteed 2nd year with year 1 being below the projected 3m he signed for. It's either that or Caruso was offered a vet min deal (-2.2m, with the 2nd yr holding a 8% escalator) that took over his 1.6m caphold using his bird rights. Oh yeah and Kcp has a no-trade clause while all the Klutch guys (excluding THT) have trade kickers in their current deals.
Is there a player we are targeting in 2020 offseason? Or even 2021...Giannis? Reunion with Kidd and pair with AD?
What would it take for us to get the non-tax payer MLE next year? What about the bi-annual exception? As I understand it, those exceptions are only available to teams that don’t have cap space. But given that we’ll likely have AD opting out of his player option, does that mean we’ll inevitably be considered a team with “cap room” and therefore not have access to those exceptions? Even if functionally we won’t really have much cap to use since we’d want to max AD as soon as possible?
Even if all our players opt out, we still had their player rights as capholds till they find a new team to sign with. We can operate as an over the cap team in that regard and still have the non-tax payer MLE of 10m. However we would be at the mercy of McGee, Kcp and Boogie to either facilitate a S&t or to have them opt in and get traded to their preferred destination if they really wanted out of LA, while handing us the non-tax MLE. Btw, if we're operating above the cap, we would also have the Bi-annual exception (~4m) in addition to the non-tax MLE.
AD's 30%max goes from a potential 35.1m to 34.8m. Again the extension route via his kicker would have turned his 27.1m this season into 31.2m, which would have unlocked his full 30%max extension immediately following the trade. However since he waived his trade kicker, we cannot offer him an extension till mid January and if we do, it will be for less than his 30%max next summer (32.5m vs 34.8m). Potential extension net loss for the 2019 thru 2020 seasons is 6.7m...and depending on the length of the would-be extension it's definitely 10m+ in immediate potential salary lost. Thanks Kawhi. Yeah he lost all that potential money and of course the supermax, but I'm sure it didn't Ruffle any feathers of his, cause hes no longer a Pelican. #DatLAmarketDoe
When it comes to our Stay-te of the Union address to AD, the "when" should always be ASAFP aka max extension. You already know what it is....forget that Bron said it would be a dream to play with his Klutch running mate and that he would give up his number and being the focal point for AD..now we gotta hear all the media chatter of him and Bron not getting along till next summer. I know I know...fear mongering schlongering (pause), but you know it's true. That train is never late. #LockHisA**UpASAFP
How can one tweet be responsible for billions of dollars. It's mind blowing. The official position should have been hacked account and pay off someone to be the patsy.
Sources: NBA teams planning for scenario in which salary cap could drop due to situation with China Keith Smith October 9, 2019, 5:30 PM PDT At least five NBA teams are having their salary cap personnel plan for a scenario in which the cap for the 2020-21 season could drop between 10 and 15 percent due to the current situation between the NBA and China, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
AD’s max was projected at 35.1m...but if this holds, he’s now looking at a potential low of 29.6m. Let’s say he opts for a 2yr deal next summer to get him to his 35%max eligibility in 2022, then our advantage compared to other teams is: Lakers yr1: 29.6m, yr2: 32m Other team yr1: 29.6m, yr2: 31.1m Aka our advantage is 900k
