I like the idea of having him be mixed race with an Asian mom. Wouldn't change the story at all and helps diversify the cast.
Watched Ultron last night... Oh man... So much fun. It was close to Guardians in terms of organic comedy that doesn't rob from the action and drama of the movie... Oh so much awesome... And it perfectly sets up Thor, Cap, Iron Man, and the next step for the Avengers... Spoiler: Seriously don't click on this it's a massive spoiler The death of a certain character I won't name because I know someone is going to click on this and regret it... It was both expected and unexpected. Whedon nails it.
Real, someone told me the animation was not as seamless as the first Avengers and looked more cartoony. How did the effects look to you?
It's a little more cartoonish I suppose. I'd say it's more comicbook-y though. Some shots are really clear and look great and some shots are just out of control and the lack of minute detail can be forgiven just because the scale of what they're trying to accomplish visually is so massive. There's points where I wish it was better and I remember there being at least one shot that I thought didn't look good at all, but overall it doesn't take from the fun. There's four or five shots that just look like they were lifted off of a comic book page. Tons and tons of action. When I watch the movie at home for the first time I'm going to have to rewind and watch some scenes a bunch of times so I can catch everything. I think what gives it the edge over the first one isn't the CGI though, it's the chemistry. The actors are all really ingrained in the characters now and they all feed off of each other so freaking well. The banter is on point, the humor is great, the action all works really well.
I saw it last night as well. I really, really liked it, but it was probably the 5th or 6th best Marvel film. I liked GotG, Cap 2, Avengers 1 and Iron Man 1 more. But I will see it one more time in theaters for sure, probably two more times. A lot of good in the film...now on to the spoilers. I will be mentioning things that are like 3 month expired milk spoily. Not a couple days expired. SUPER spoily. You have been sufficiently warned. Spoiler: Don't Click If You Haven't Seen it The Good: Once again, some of the one liners were fantastic. It was nice to see them really flesh out Hawkeye. The action sequences were amazing at times. Like RealDeal said, there were so many things going on, you'd probably have to watch the film several times to see all the individual fights going on everywhere. Ultron was funnier than I expected. Vision was fantastic. Probably the best moment of the film was when he was created I liked the twins as characters and the way they went from bad to good was believable The Bad Didn't feel much urgency until the last few minutes of the film because most of it had Ultron just upset with the Avengers and it seems like a little inconvenient battle for Stark and the gang The whole movie had a different vibe. It almost felt like Avengers 1 started it, Infinity Wars will end it, and Age of Ultron was sort of us peaking in the window to see what they're up to before continuing down the road. I read that they had to cut about 30 minutes from the film, and I think it suffered from it. There were some VERY rushed portions. The origin of the twins powers would have been nice to know. Were they all a result of Strucker's experiments, or were they Inhumans? I didn't like the killing of Spoiler: LAST CHANCE Quicksilver. (Granted, I don't think he's staying dead) It carried no punch because I don't think we knew him at all. You had the conversation with Hawkeye and S. Witch to give her character more depth, but Quicksilver said very little and just died.
I just saw it, and I agree with @Savory Griddles in his analysis, but I'd rank Age of Ultron 4th overall amongst the Marvel movies. It was a ton of fun, but to me, the first Avengers movie, was THE perfect movie. I had, and have no criticisms for the first Avengers movie. Second favorite would be GotG, because it was awesome, and I still rank Winter Soldier above Avengers 2 because I remember the joy and exhilaration I felt after coming out of that movie because it was just so engrossing to me. I loved this movie, but still didn't feel this movie as much as those 3.
It was fun. It was action packed. Lots of easter eggs and hints here and there that all Marvel fans would love. Only thing is, the newer characters aren't fleshed out that much. The bad guy was actually an interesting one, although I felt it wasn't as epic as the first one. Ummmm, overall great film. Don't miss it on the big screen. If anyone can remember, it's not a spoiler btw, but in the beginning of the film where it has that one slow motion frame of all the avengers charging towards that building? I thought that was pretty badass.
Hard to flesh out that many new characters in so little time, but I understood the gist of who the twins were. I didn't need much more than that. Vision obviously is a new creation and it's almost impossible to even understand what his motivations will be. I've got to think those stories are coming as we move forward into Cap 3 though.
Man that movie was awesome, I'm contemplating going again today. I think I like this one more than the first one. Loki is a great villain but there's something about Ultron, maybe it's cause it's the first time seeing him. The action was great, I just love seeing them work together. One liners were hilarious was serious when it needed to be. Spoiler Tried to go in as blind as possible, didn't know Vision was going to be in it. Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch were probably my favorite characters in this one. More backstory for Clint and Nat was nice but wasn't really feeling the whole Banner and Nat thing, awkward Banner was hilarious though. Don't think Quicksilver is dead dead, I feel like Vision is going to bring him back somehow. I like this QS more than the one we saw in XMen.
I thought the Hulk/Widow thing made more sense in the movie than I expected. Going into the movie I had heard about it and was worried it wouldn't make any sense. Scarlet has been used as the romantic interest in a ton of these movies already. I thought Hulk wouldn't make any sense, but it worked. Technically Widow has only ever really been interested in Hulk. She was just using her sexuality in IM2 and she kissed Cap under cover. Part of Widow's character is to use her sexuality to disarm people and get what she wants. I guess the movies could use a new love interest though.
Lol, that's the one. I was sitting next to a kid and felt uncomfortable about kids hearing that joke, but I don't know if he got it.
Saw it. Enjoyed it. For me, as an older guy who read the Avengers all the way back when they were first created it still amazes me that they have managed to make movies that almost perfectly reflects those comics and even goes beyond them. On the other hand, I was not feeling the Fantastic Four trailer at all.
That FF looks AWFUL... It was originally supposed to be a sequel to Trank's other movie about kids with powers (Chronicle?) but FOX changed it in order to keep the FF properties. The Thing looks terrible. They went with the race change in the Storm family which is fine, but why wouldn't you change both kids? It makes more sense and doesn't leave the audience wondering. I don't care if the Storms are black, that's awesome, but it really feels arbitrary when you change only one kid... I know, I know one of them is adopted or they're step brother and sister or whatever, but it's just kind of jarring and seems unnecessary. And don't get me started on Doom... Oh man... He looks like a metal mannequin.
Didn't know it was originally suppose to be a sequel to Chronicle, that was a surprisingly good movie. Now I am more disappointed that we missed out on a sequel for something that is bound to disappoint.
On race in ff: Sue didn't get the switch cause folks are still uncomfortable with interracial couples. Spoiler free AoU thoughts. I feel like the first one is more fun and sleek, but not necessarially better. The problem with the second is it really should have been two movies. At times it felt really rushed and I really wanted to see more of certain characters. But my goodness it feels like your watching a comic. So much action, so much going on. There are several times during the movie where I just couldn't believe I was seeing all of this on a movie screen. And yes parts of the animation were rubbery. On one hand you hacve the hulk which looks real with Ruffalo really hitting home runs through just facial expressions and growls, but in the next scene Thor looks fake as he fights ultron. Again its not as fun as Avengers, its not nearly as polished as Cap 2, or as free wheeling fun as GotG, but its easily in the mix with those films.
I agree interracial couples can sometimes look strange in films, but even then you're not likely to pop out one white kid and one black one. Just makes it all seem arbitrary and forced. If you're going to do something, don't do it in half measures. I totally agree on parts of the CGI not working, but like I said it's forgivable in a lot of respects because the payoff shots of them all in action are so crazy. I left feeling like I could watch it again and see a bunch of new action sequences because I just was watching a different thread the entire time. As for rankings... I guess I'd say- 1. Cap 2 2. Guardians 3. Avengers 2 4. Avengers 5. Iron Man
That's how I feel on the FF. The mixed race siblings feels like they are forcing diversity down our throats. The Fantastic Four isn't like Superman or Batman where if you changed their race people would make a scene about it. I just feel like, other than the KKK, the idea to change the race of one of the Fantastic Four would be met with, "Eh." But doing it in the way they did makes it stupid, and almost desperate to draw attention to themselves in any way possible because the movie on it's own won't.
I agree FF looks ridiculous on all levels. I would rather see chronicle 2. As for interracial relationships looking awkward, I think its more than that. Very rarely is there an interracial couple in tv or film that isn't treated as a joke/walking stereotype, and even those that dont are met with vitriol. Remember how the world lost its ish over a cheerio commercial? I would love to see a black sue storm with a white Reed Richards, of course in a actual good movie. But I think the execs know the movie is going to suck anyways and dont want to risk that too. On the other hand it should be interesting to see how the public handles Luke Cage and Jessica Jones.
