I do as well. Besides that Vogel introductory press conference, there hasn’t been much. Plus now Ramona has shown she’s not Jeanie’s or Linda’s mouthpiece any longer. I do expect a huge press conference once this team is fully constructed though. A state of the union like if you will.
Mason said that Ireland is off the air until the AD trade is finalized because he works for the Lakers and they don't want him saying the wrong thing inadvertently.
Can you imagine how big the crowd of reporters would have been after Magic did what he did? What .... should she have "taken the 5th" with all of the digging types of questions that would have come, as I said, from reporters including BSPN with their bias? Why? She got blindsided and then he doubled down and did her again. Why should she have been forced into that? They were the whole time trying to dig through the rubble of the crater he left intentionally and figure out what to do next. All the while the draft, coaching choice and free agency coming up. Agree to disagree I guess.
Yeah definitely am down with that. After they grind and do their best this off season then is the proper time to talk about what they expect going forward. Way too much up in the air prior and IMO it's pre-mature to have done it sooner plus the awkward situation created.
There's no way the Lakers aren't hearing what's being said about them. They are probably keeping things close to the vest because the other option is to send Kurt Rambis (who they know the city of Los Angeles hates right now) or Rob Pelinka (who is getting decimated in the press) out to talk to us. They probably figure that if they can finish the AD trade, have a successful free agency (whether it be huge like Kawhi or decent like D'Lo), and then talk to the press, they can just point to the results and not have to field the very awkward questions. Would it be them falling into success? Mostly. But it's a lot harder to ask pointed questions about failures if we have several all-stars on the roster.
I think it’s also safer to not speak to the press right now. Nothing to gain and lots to lose. If I was running the Lakers right now, I’d have a moratorium on anyone speaking to the press until this is all over.
I can imagine, and I have one word for you: leadership. You run the Los Angeles Lakers. Why be afraid of a crowd of reporters??? She, or someone authorized to do so, could have given a prepared statement with or without a Q&A session afterwards. You dictate the announcement, not the reporters. It looks bad to not have the fortitude to face reporters when you are in the publicity business. Not that hard. You want to be THE man or woman, then act like it.
You know what Magic could have done? He could have been a man and said that this job needs 24/7 attention and I'm stepping down. Instead, he went the b**** route and blamed others.
I grew up having a huge Magic poster on my wall as a kid. Being a Lakers fan in the 80’s was a lot of fun. I loved the smile and leadership he brought to that team. With that crap he pulled, I lost all respect for the man. Then he validated my feelings by going on First Take and throwing everyone under the bus.
I didnt lose all respect. He was still arguably the greatest player of all time. But his image as a man and a person is now tarnished. The fact that hes on video saying he's totally committed to the job, then says he told Jeannie his other businesses come first in his First Take interview...he's eith a total idiot and doesnt know video gets recorded, or hes a pathological liar and cant keep his own lies straight in his own mind.
Love Magic the player, don't know the person but I always wish him good health of course and success in whatever he does. But yeah, he acted like a complete jerk and in retrospect it probably wasn't the right job for him. Should have been in an advisor role ONLY. I'll give him some credit for the Lebron signing for sure. But he was pretty bad after that. Glad he stepped down. Until Rob puts together a complete lineup I can't judge fairly on the job he's doing. I thought the coaching hire was pretty good. The AD trade was stellar. Hopefully he can get one more superstar FA and put together a full team. If he does . . . A all the way.
Which doesn't say much. His recent press indicates that he is the most incompetent and disingenuous person on planet earth. It's almost impossible to not exceed expectations.
I think Noah is going to have a little trouble breeding the lions... I think you understand what I'm getting at.
Well to exert that level of control should indicate to us all that they are acutely aware of what is being said by all and those media sources that are taking their digs @ us now may find their press passes don't work so well @ Staples this season.
Um those who don't understand true miracles will never appreciate Rob's Bible stories? Yeah, I'm reaching.
