    Full Mayweather-Pacquiao coverage
Manny Pacquiao is using his new training ground -- UCLA's track -- in more ways than one. Earlier this week, when his trainer, Freddie Roach, told Philboxing.com that Pacquiao no longer needed to run hills and would therefore be training at UCLA's track instead of Griffith Park, most figured Pacquiao would be using the track to build up his speed.

But based on the video posted to his Instagram page, Pacquiao is utilizing more than just the track.

When the news broke regarding the switch in Pacquiao's training location, his strength and conditioning coach, Justin Fortune, cited UCLA's "equipment, facilities, gadgets and other components," as the reason for the change in plans.

"UCLA definitely compensates what Griffith cannot," Fortune said at the time.

A video posted on Wednesday confirmed Pacquiao's use of the track.

But now, it appears they've swapped out the hills for the stadium stairs.

Manny Pacquiao should be in plenty good shape come May 2.

Manny Pacquiao skips training session, concerns grow over calf injury

Manny Pacquiao’s calf muscles continue to cause the Filipino boxer problems.

He reportedly missed his Saturday morning workout just over a month out from his May 2 mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather.

    Per USA Today:

With his regular running partners having assembled outside his Hancock Park house just after 6 a.m. on Saturday, strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune arriving soon after, and a throng of excited fans waiting a few miles down the road at Pan Pacific Park, word soon filtered out that the 36-year-old would be a no-show.

“Manny won’t run today,” Fortune said. “It is not the end of the world, but we do it for a reason.”

Trainer Freddie Roach sparked some concerns earlier last week by admitting that Pacquiao had been suffering from cramps in his legs, claiming they were being treated by a combination of massage and a special cream that costs $1,800 per bottle.

    From CBS Sports:

“Manny won’t run today,” Fortune said at the time, via USA Today. “It is not the end of the world, but we do it for a reason.”

And while Fortune didn’t give a specific reason for Pacquiao’s absence, he hinted at the cause.

“I would like him to get up and move around at least, get out the stiffness from the work we have been doing,” Fortune told USA Today. “He is not going to run, but we will make up for it with the work we do later.”

At this age? With the other stuff on his plate? It wouldn't be surprising if he had a couple injuries.

But this could also be a ploy to try to get Mayweather over confident.

I believe there was one fight where Pacquiao was dealing with this issue before the actual fight itself...

Well.....chronologically Floyd is like a year and a half older than Manny I believe. Manny's hands were always fast and his footwork was / (is?) a thing of beauty to position all the bombs from many angles those fast hands are throwing. Does he have a great fight in him still? Haven't heard any more on the calf problems, so hope his training is going great and he is coming into this fight in PEAK condition for where he and Freddie want him to be.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Superior hand speed will give Manny Pacquiao a decisive edge over American Floyd Mayweather in their heavily anticipated megafight in Las Vegas next week, says the Filipino southpaw's trainer Freddie Roach.

Mayweather will go into the May 2 welterweight showdown as the favorite in his bid to improve on a perfect 47-0 record as a professional, but Roach is confident that underdog Pacquiao will emerge triumphant on points after the 12 scheduled rounds.

"I know he (Mayweather) is a good fighter but I just think I have the better fighter," Roach told Reuters before overseeing a shadow boxing session by Pacquiao at his Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.

"Hand speed is going to be a big, big difference in this fight and Manny is much quicker than he is."

Roach, who has guided Pacquiao to world championships in eight weight divisions and a 57-5-2 career record with 38 knockouts, said that he had no concerns about the threat posed by 11-time world champion Mayweather.

"I don't think he can really hurt Manny so I am not worried about that so much," smiled the shrewd Roach, a former featherweight and lightweight boxer who ended his own career in the ring at the age of 26 with a decent 41-13 record.

"Mayweather has a good right hand but I don't think he can knock Manny out with that right hand. I don't think he can move like he used to because his legs aren't what they were, and that's the first thing to go in a fighter."

Roach, who has often been remarkably accurate with his pre-fight predictions, expects the May 2 bout to last the full 12 rounds.

"It's going to start quick," said the bespectacled trainer who has worked with 31 world champions in his Wild Card gym. "We're going to be warmed up and ready to go.

"What I want Manny to do is outscore him and land combinations, get out of the pocket and make him miss. If we can consistently do that, we will win the fight on a decision. I think it will go the distance."

    MATCH-UP OF CONTRASTING STYLES

Mayweather, 38, is known for his brilliant defense and astute ring management while Pacquiao, 36, is renowned for his aggressive style and lightning-fast speed, setting up an intriguing match-up of contrasting styles.

While many pundits regret that the two fighters are in the twilight of their respective careers and have lost some of their skills, Roach believes that now is the ideal time to stage a long awaited bout that was more than five years in the making.

"Everyone gets older and slows down a little bit but five years ago Floyd would run (around the ring) all night and we would all fall asleep," said the 55-year-old trainer.

"This is going to be a much better fight, I feel, because his (Mayweather's) legs aren't what they used to be. He has to take breaks and he does rest on the ropes at times.

"And if you rest on the ropes with Manny Pacquiao, you will be in a lot of trouble."

Pacquiao's motivation for the May 2 fight in Vegas could not be any higher, according to Roach.

"Manny has really raised the bar in this training camp," said Roach. "He's a different Manny Pacquiao than I have seen going into previous training camps. I've never seen him work this hard.

"He's faster than ever and he's definitely hitting harder than ever. He hit me so hard the other day that I believe it's the hardest I've ever been hit by a fighter who I'm training. I'm really happy where he's at."

OK just bent over and gave DirecTV and the promoters my $100 for the fight in HD. In fact this is the first on same night PPV HD fight I have ever received, since the last one I ordered that I felt was worth it was over 9 years ago and they were all in standard def. Probably one of De La Hoya's last big fights. Have not been motivated or cared about any fighter enough since then to pay the bucks. Just would catch them in HD a week later on Showtime, HBO or wherever.

Man I hope this is a good fight and I hope Manny wins.

    I do.

People don't like floyds cockiness. I get that. However, as a fighter the guy is one of, if not the, greatest boxers to step in the ring. I am not even a fan of his but watching all the people try to tarnish his legacy with so much nonsense just makes me want to see him win more. Honestly, just on boxer vs boxer (and not this Filipino vs Black, God loving vs Domestic Violence charges, For the People vs For himself stuff that seems to be what everyone is talking about) I don't think Manny has anything for Floyd. Floyd is going to pick him apart I think (could be wrong but don't think so). I think Freddy Roach has been talking too much and is actually worried that Manny can't beat Floyd. Manny is great but I think Floyd is greater. I do think Manny may be able to get that one big blow but even then we have no idea how much of a punch Floyd can or can't take. People seem to assume he can't take one cause he really has never been HIT. In the end I want it to be a great fight or Floyd knock Manny out and get rid of all doubt he is the best.

    I can't stand Mayweather as a person. He's a bad person.

Great defensive fighter though. He'll likely win. I don't want him to and it has nothing to do with anything other than I think he really deserves to be knocked out. Literally he deserves to have someone punch him in the face hard enough to knock him unconscious.

I get that Floyd is technically the best fighter of all time, and to some boxing buffs, that's what makes it the "sweet science."

He fights for the win and does it to perfection.

At the same time, he never had the same competition that guys like Ali, Tyson, Holyfield, Frazier, had. Pacquiao may be that competition, but it's 3-5 years too late.

Also, I don't find him that exciting of a fighter.

I just don't see Mayweather losing. He can be a POS all day, but he's such a great defensive fighter. 5 years ago might have been a different outcome, but I doubt he loses tonight.

I still think, since Floyd is a year and a half older than Manny, with his now older "running" legs and (possibly??) slightly slower reflexes ..... that Manny with his almost equally fast hands and equally great footwork and stamina, coming at him from all the angles and combinations he throws, with more power than Floyd..... has a good chance. To listen to Roach, Manny is fast as ever and hitting harder that ever. But I don't buy that. Just surprised so many think this is a slam dunk for Mayweather.

I would like to see Pacquiao win but being objective I feel it will be Mayweather by a decision. Roach is preaching for his fighter to cut off his opponent's escape routes and attack. His team also won the gloves choice. Reyes types suitable for hitters. It is an intriguing matchup. Oh and the picks all over the net? About 90% Mayweather....
