ok hear me out. assuming no max, it's time for kcp to pay the piper. he needs to take a 1-year deal at low money, which would give us his full bird rights going forward and allow us to spend elsewhere to shore up the roster. that money goes to a pg (collison, cory joseph, george hill, beverly, or (doubtful) brogdon), and then whomever wants to take a slight cut to be here (come back, brolo!). don't have time to scour the list, but the kcp thing needs to happen. he owes us.
I understand where you’re coming from but in no universe do I want to imagine KCP with this team next year.
Excuse the language...it's IS Beverly though lol. I don't know what his market is though. $10M might be overpaying, and we won't have that type of money if we go after a 3rd max, but would definitely get the full MLE for sure though. If we go the 3rd star route, Beverly - MLE (~$5.6M) Butler - Max Lebron AD McGee - Vet Minimum If we go the role player route with only $23-27M Beverly - $8-9M Reddick - MLE Lebron AD Cousins/Vucevic - $13-14M
Here it is. My starting five with bench players added. C - Lopez PF - AD SF - Lebron SG - Kawhi PG - Collison Kuzma (getting starter minutes and closing games)/Wagner/Melo/Bullock/Caruso
I'll get to specific numbers and scenarios later today bud, but just know folks that if Kawhi comes and it's AD, Bron, Kawhi, then next year we'll have an opportunity to use the nearly 10m non-tax payer MLE, but we'll be very close to the 141m luxury tax threshold with just our max3, Kuz, Moe, Bonga, JJ (RFA), possible 2020 1st round pick and whatever bodies we can bring in with the MLE and bi-annual exceptions.
So if we get the FULL MLE the following summer...do we not have it in the summer of 2021? Do we go back to room exception? Also, as far as roster goes... Kemba KCP Kuzma LeBron AD I know. I know. Efff KCP but at the minimum I'd take him...and he owes us like @abeer3 said.
Bron 37.4 Kawhi 32 AD 27.1 Moe 2.1 Kuz 2 Bonga 1.4 JJ 1.4 Deng dead cap 5 = 108.4m So before room and minimum vet exceptions, we are just under the salary cap threshold of 109m. I would then use the 5.5m each team gets in cash to trade for 2nd rounders, use the 4.8m room exception to throw at P.Bev, DJ, BroLo, RoLo, DRose, Bullock and hope that it sticks. Then target Melo, Noel, Morris twins, Rondo to the vet mins. Another route we could take is expand the AD trade to be a 3 teamer and we can get some other guys within the aggregated amount of Zo/BI/Hart/signed 4th's 25m to bring in up to 31.4m in incoming salary (AD's 27.1m + 4.3m). So assuming AD waives his kicker, with that extra 4.3m, we can snag up guys on the Pels like Wood & Ja or reach out to a 3rd team in a larger AD trade, like for example the Hawks, for some of their 2nd round picks + Len's 4.2m OR Adams' 1.4m & Spellman's 1.9m (remember him?)
