Yeah, even if we don’t get the max, that $4 million trade kicker would be pretty big in filling out the roster. Unfortunately I don’t see Klutch waiving it for a roleplayer. Lebron and Klutch is all about maximizing power and money of the players. Wouldn’t be a good look for Klutch when they go to recruit other stars if they saw that AD had to give up money.

And agreed, I think we definitely need to add a defensive wing in some capacity. Haven’t paid too much attention to Ariza lately, but maybe the decline in his defensive productivity was a result of playing meaningless games on losing teams like Phoenix and Washington? He might be a good addition.

Personally, I would prioritize a 3&D wing player like Danny Green over a stretch 5 like Lopez.

After binging on NBA content last night, I'm leaning harder on the idea that we should sign multiple rotation players instead of 1 max guy. Kawhi's minutes were able to be aggressively managed because TOR has a bunch of actually-good NBA rotation players. I feel like this is why the Clippers were good this year too. Bron and AD need their minutes managed. Heat-era Bron was like the equivalent of a 300-carry running back in the NFL, but in this year he's certainly not that guy. I think the top-heavy approach is not only risky, but almost unrealistic. This is our squad now, preserving Bron and AD for a 82-game season should be one of our top priorities.

It’s a tough call for me. Overall, if we can get any of Kawhi, Kyrie, Butler, or Kemba, I probably do it.

But with Kawhi, it’s a no brainer. Say we don’t have as much depth and Lebron ends up missing some games. We’d still have the best duo in the league with Kawhi and AD.

Is Kawhi still the main focus on the FO? You mentioned things had gotten quiet from Kawhi's camp in the Finals; has there been anything since the Finals concluded from their camp?

As far as Kyrie, I'd had heard that LeBron wanted him; but with every passing day, it seems the direction he's going in is East toward Brooklyn? Do the Lakers still plan on going after him?

I'm still of the opinion that Jimmy is a guy that we could get? Any thoughts there and any updates on Kemba?

Outside of the Max Players this Free Agency, do the Lakers have a plan if none of them commit? Any sense of the some of the guys that the Lakers would be looking at otherwise?

    Thanks.

I think I would too, but I would like both if possible

But maybe Mo can be our stretch big? But he isn't really a big 5 either

Going to need some type of C though, don't think Tyson cuts it for big minutes

I just thought of something. Wouldn’t it be funny if kyrie stayed? “My bad, y’all shoulda traded Jesus-boy for AD”

Can you breakdown the stance of both sides on

    Butler

    Kemba

    Kyrie

Who do you think we are likely to get, is it likely we have a max spot (is it possible the trade gets cancelled lol) and what non max free agents are we trying to get? Thoughts shooting wise overall, and what’s happening with rondo

Agreed @Helljumper , I'll make a concession because Kawhi is a no brainer. But I'm pretty much out on Kyrie or Kemba, the combination of durability and lack of defense are too great to overcome with a limited bench. I like Butler as a fit, but he's only played more than 70 games twice in his career - big issue for a short handed roster. I expect LBJ and AD to play around 70 games next year too. Max or no max we still need a lot of players, and I'm not ready to tie all that up in Kyrie or Kemba.

Funny, but not as funny as Kyrie going to Brooklyn. All the assets Boston got from the Nets in the “heist” essentially leading to only Kyrie ... who then leaves them for the Nets anyways. It’s already funny reading C Bags fans acknowledge the reality that Kyrie is leaving and they’ll be unable to add anyone else significant, and many of them are delusional and think that they’ll be an elite team anyways because apparently Kyrie was holding back future MJ (Tatum).

Oh my god... this is an angle I've never thought about and it makes me so happy. For the likes of Mannix and Woj to have their precious, carefully crafted, years-long C Bags narratives destroyed by Kyrie would be among the greatest Doomsday victories. Kyrie to BK, sign me up on that bandwagon!

I might be starting to lean that way too.

Especially because I’m worried about the following scenario: I could see a situation where someone like Butler starts having his camp leak his interest in signing for the Lakers. We reciprocate, but in reality he’s our second option. July 1st comes around and Butler is expecting an immediate offer while Kawhi indicates he will meet with several teams and needs a few days. Do we throw the max at Butler because he’s a sure thing at that point, eliminating the Kawhi scenario even though there was still a chance? Or do we tell Jimmy we need some time (basically waiting on Kawhi) and risk him realizing he’s not our first option and gets sensitive and signs elsewhere?

For players like Butler and Kemba that would be coming to us possibly at the expense of a larger max with their current team, I could see them being less enthusiastic about coming here if it becomes clear they’re a back-up plan in our eyes.

So maybe just go all in on Kawhi and then if it falls through go for the roleplayers.

If we sign Kyrie, who do we go after with the room exception? Needs to be a shooting guard. Reddick? Who is in that price range?

Yeah the only issue with signing a max player would be depth THIS YEAR, but that problem alleviates after year 2. If we sign role players, that pretty much caps our ceiling for 3+ years.

@myunibrodavis as of a few days ago... Target is Kawhi, Kyrie, Kemba, Butler in that order. Priority is a point guard who can shoot the 3, especially off the dribble in the pick and roll.

I am unsure on Rondo. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring him back for the minimum.

    Tier 1
    Kawhi, KD

    Tier 2
    Kyrie, Klay

    Tier 3
    Butler, Kemba

    Tier 4
    Middleton, Tobias, DeMarcus

To me focus is tier 1 then 2. Everything else is more of an afterthought but would be okay with it. Also I wouldn't mind going after quality role players that can shoot and play defense like Danny Green, Beverley, and Seth

What are the odds on getting those guys? Also, shooting is an emphasis right? (In terms of filling out the roster). And we staying away from melo right lol

What about some of the other guys like Caruso, Bonga, and JJ (especially caruso i love that man)
