That's what Morey gets for playing money ball in the NBA. Money ball only works when you have all world players who win. Money ball wont win for you. At least not when it matters.

My issue with the splitting cap space for role players instead of a star, especially if it’s only ~23 million, is that I think that’s only enough for 2 quality role players anyway. A lot of these guys are going to get paid since so many teams around the league have cap room.

Here is how I would try to do it.

Use about 10-15 million on a SG/SF who can shoot. In order, my preferences are Bogdanovic, Redick, Green.

Use about 10 million on a PG who can shoot. In order, my preferences are Curry, Beverly, Collison.

Try to convince Brook to come back at the room exception.

Bring back Javale and Caruso for the minimum, and I hate to say it but KCP would be great depth at that price too. Sign a few vets for the minimum for a bit more perimeter depth. Maybe Vince Carter or Melo. Bring back Pau for a retirement tour/locker room presence.

    Curry / Caruso / Bonga
    Bogdanovic / KCP
    Lebron / Carter
    Davis / Kuzma / Wagner
    Lopez / McGee / Pau

Yep...but it would be 4 yrs max since you need 3 years minimum as a free agent with your new team to gain full bird rights. 2 years with us would earn him early bird rights that leads to 4yr max deals only.

Here's the format if AD trade is done in August giving us 32m in cap space.

    Year 1: 32
    Year 2: 33.6
    Year 3: opt out and take 4yr 35%max deal starting @ 42.4m

    Klutch represents Marcus Morris too.

Rich Paul could convince him to come to LA for a good price maybe with the promis of getting paid later on?

We can't even take in Cp3's contract, math doesn't even work

Say Beverly goes to Chi or stays with LAC, I wonder who we can get?

Idk if Collison or Hill are good enough. Rondo shouldnt be back, and if he is, he should come off the bench b/c of his connection with AD. Bad attitude though and a poor/lazy defender.

IF and I do mean IF we can’t land Kawhi, I’d try to sign Malcolm Brogdon and Seth Curry.

    Curry
    Brogdon
    Lebron
    Kuzma
    AD

But the math does work. It's the conceptual integrity, that doesn't haha.

    How does the math work?

    Lebron-37
    Ad-27
    Kuzma-2
    Wagner-2
    Bonga-1.5
    7 min cap holds-7
    Deng hold-5

    Cp3 makes 38M

Even if we did the trade on July 30, we have 32M, not 38M. Am I missing something?

Official July 6th trade with no AD trade kicker = 27.7m in cap space.

Absorb Cp3's 38.5m into that cap leaving 10.8m to salary match. Kuz/Moe/Bonga/JJ aggregate to 6.9m. That amount allows a non-tax team to take back 11.9m in salary.

Of course, I'm also demanding massive pick compensation to replenish what we lost in the AD trade and possibly to give to Toronto as compensation to pluck away Masai from them.

I'd definitely go with Brook Lopez, Malcolm Brogdon and Danny Green if we need to spread that $29M effectively.

    $14M for Brogdon
    $10M for Brook
    $5M for Green

Guys like George Hill, Seth Curry, Darren Collison and Marcus Morris COULD be available for the room exception, and a guy like Reggie Bullock may take the minimum...

    so something like:

    Brogdon - 14m
    Brook - 10m
    Seth Curry - 5M
Marcus Morris - 4.8M (Room Exception)
Reggie Bullock - Vet's Min (not sure what this amount would be for Bullock?)
    DeAndre Jordan - Vet's Min
    Rajon Rondo - Vet's Min

you add that to our guys right now and you got:

    Brook Lopez
    Anthony Davis
    LeBron James
    Brogdon
    Seth Curry

    Bench:
    DJ
    Kyle Kuzma
    Marcus Morris
    Reggie Bullock
    Rajon Rondo
    Caruso

That would be stupid, not realistic anyways so lets not even have this convo

    But question about cap

So if you are absorbing a contract that is more than the space you have, you can still dump contracts enough to match you correct? Like the order of operations is fine?

Wow...so I got a beefsteak tomato all over my face, but now I can add that to my stew-pid pick recipe above.

And to answer your question..yep. Look at the AD trade. Zo/BI/Hart ain't enough to bring back AD...let alone his trade kicker. So we're absorbing some if AD's contract into our space... Which is why we lost the max....and why I came up with a Cp3 contingency. But I've been told salary dumps are a stupid idea haha.

He was the main reason the Bulls would have taken out the C Bags a few years back. He just got hurt. He was killing em.

Rondo has elevated his game every time in the playoffs aside from that weird Dallas stint. He just flat out plays better. Not saying he turns into a HOF PG, but he seems to care more when it matters and it shows.

29? It was 27 and that is if AD waives his trade kicker which word is he from the media, he's not doing, so it's $23 mil.

Or if you meant the trade gets pulled off 7/30 then we are fine with money however that is not even likely to be up to David Griffin but up to the team he trades our #4 to and that team will likely want it done 7/6 so they get their player on their summer league team.

Which is exactly why it needs to happen...it would be icing on the cake if we foiled their Kawhi stalkery as well.

Btw, these names are really coming out now...recall Favors name being dropped as well. Either this is for rounding out the roster post max, or we're trying to entice a more rounded out roster with suddenly and unanticipated cap space. Please let it be the former.

I don't believe a word the media says about AD...only Rich Paul. He's gonna waive that trade kicker, I'm fairly confident in that. Whether we do deal July 6 or 30...we'll have around $27M on July 6...if we dump bonga/wagner...gets us to 29m...so with that 29M, we can make those moves. Key would be to split it amongst 3 starter level role players that can shoot and defend, which I believe is possible.

I TOTALLY forgot about Patrick Beverley. He's the perfect type of dude for this roster...tough as nails and will annoy opponents while hitting open 3s?
