He fits in perfectly no matter what other moves we made or didn’t make.

He needs to take 6 months off

Dude is worn out like the rest of the squad that went to 5 straight Finals.

Tough spot for charlotte--that supermax will kill them, but so would Kemba walking.

I’m not opposed to Kemba as long as he doesn’t come alone or we already have a trade for AD or someone like Beal in place.

Can't pay Kemba 30 mil per and more. He is not that kind of player despite what the market says. Just see John Wall and Mike Conley for reference.

But that's on Charlotte. They had years of Kemba making half of what he was worth and couldn't do a thing around him.

That could come back to bite us. AD would spend the last couple years of his contract playing with a couple dudes way over the hill and no real way to improve the roster.

Meh, I’m in win now mentality. These contracts always seem to be moveable when they come down to their end if it’s for a former or borderline all-star player.

I mean that’s not really the same, he has an achilles injury, he was already a bad shooter and mostly relied on his athleticism, and is making from $38 mil to $47 mil over the next 4 seasons. If Kemba were here I’d assume he’d be making $30 mil per, he can shoot, I don’t see his dropoff being as drastic. Sure he’s a liability on defense, but if we had him, LeBron, and AD, I wouldn’t complain.

Having two defensive liabilities in the starting lineup (Lebron and Kemba) would be rough.

That $30M could be spent much more effectively.

I’m not suggesting we sign Kemba, I’m just saying as a plan C or whatever I wouldn’t be mad. I just want to be competitive, earlier this year I threw it out there as like a plan C or D that we could even sign Bogdanovic and Vucevic if we struck out on all the big names. It would be sort of like the idea behind the Mozgov and Deng signings, but it wouldn’t be for that much guaranteed years and these players are actually good. Would we win the title? No, almost certainly not, but we’d have very tradable assets and a much better team than last season. These are all hypotheticals, I’m hoping we don’t strike out and it doesn’t come to any of that.

Finally got some insight into the consulting situation with the Lakers, as well as what I'll be working on instead of the Kyrie pitch.

Apparently, AEG management and the Lakers talked and both agreed that while having back up plans is important, that shouldn't dissuade them from doing a bit of star chasing. They felt the NBA was just trying to get the Lakers into the 2nd round in the least-risk manner, rather than trying to ensure the best possible outcome, which is exactly what I thought as well.

AEG suggested that rather than get basketball consulting help from the NBA, the problems in the Lakers org stemmed from a lack of direction from upper level management (e.g. Magic, Kurt Rambis, etc.). After some back and forth, they went ahead and suggested the Lakers bring in traditional management consultants (with their help) rather than the NBA guys. The Lakers and NBA corporate office reluctantly agreed.

Where I come in is that due to my relationships with partners from some of the big firms, I'll be helping in the process of connecting them to the Lakers and maybe conducting some initial meetings with them to judge fit. I don't have the basketball acumen but I have experience in the industry. I'll be working closely with Tim Harris's team on this, which may or may not net me some additional indirect insight into what the Lakers are doing. Obviously, I cannot just ask him outright like with the AEG guys, but I might glean a tidbit or two. I"ll have to be more careful about what I share, as well.

Hopefully this clears up some confusion.

    Best,
    Mr. Rambis

I understand your position, and honestly, I'd take the combo of Bogdanovic and Vucevic over just Kemba. I just think that if we land AD and lose all/most of our kids, we need to fill up the roster with quality pieces. Ring chasers are usually on the wrong side of 30, and I find it doubtful that we'd be able to build a championship roster with just the MLE and minimum salaries. Good players in their primes (ie Seth Curry) are going to demand a sizable contract.
